Hello new followers!
I’ve got some new followers so thought I’d introduce the inspiration behind my training…
Mabel was dog and people reactive out of fear. She would charge and bark and them, lunge on the lead. She would bark at anything and everything when I’d get her out the car. Life with her was stressful!
Fast forward and I found a trainer who inspired me and had shown me through her own dogs and clients that reactivity was fixable and I could enjoy life with my dog as I really believed I couldn’t and other trainers made me believe I couldn’t!! I went on to be mentored by her, shadowed lessons, took on dog walking and training clients myself before offering training now.
To this day I’ve have a successful portfolio of clients who came to me with reactive dogs, who are now living a stress free life with their dog off lead with minimal management. It’s possible 🫶🏼
Obedience doesn’t make your dog a robot!
Such a common misconception I see thrown around.
ALL of the dogs in the video are obediently trained to a high level and NONE of them are ‘Robots’.
Each of them are having fun, showing their personalities and being dogs! Dog training is about building a relationship between dog and owner, living in harmony, both of you enjoying walks and we use obedience to achieve that.
I ask Mabel to walk beside me nicely and then off she goes she’s free to go and sniff and have fun and recall when I need her. Owner 🤝 dog.
Off Lead Class
Off lead classes are here 👏🏼 these dogs were ALL previously reactive!
Chosen a small group to start with to really work on proofing their off lead heel, down stays and recall with various excercises to challenge and test them and proof, using Mabel for this too.
Finished with a pack walk 💕 none of these dogs had met before and they co-existed beautifully which was so nice to see. They absolutely smashed it, it was such a pleasure to host and work with them.
These guys have worked really hard to be here. I’m excited to help my other clients work to this stage as I’m lucky enough to work with lots of dedicated owners. Shoutout to these guys!
Training happens… As soon as you step out the door. Not in the garden, not in the house and not in secure fields if you’re trying to proof around distractions.
I say to clients to adjust your walks to where you need the most proofing.
Training should still fit in with your life. It’s just what happens on those walks/sessions/outings changes slightly to get your dog learning the best way they can, making walks less stressful and make the reps MEANINGFUL.
Clips from my walk and train with the gorgeous Roland. I took him for a general “walk” but instead of going to an empty forest, I went to a popular park and on that walk I encountered dogs to practice recall from. Dogs to practice on lead passes with/neutrality and got Mabel out half way through so he can walk with a neutral dog to learn from. This was a while ago and he’s now loving off lead life.
Massive shoutout to his owner. When I first met him, he couldn’t disengage, was super excited by everything and generally a big strong boy with no control becoming frustrated. Insanely proud of them both and the dog he’s become.
A Yogi kinda day today 🥰
I had the pleasure of walking this gorgeous boy while his owners had some time in Portsmouth. We went to southsea and it’s the perfect place for training around dogs. (And some beach time!)
I’ve been working with @yogi_the_dalmatian on a 121 basis and beyond proud of how well this boy did! There were dogs everywhere. I didn’t catch it but I walked quite closely past a group of dogs pulling and barking and he took it in his stride! Massive progress from when I first met him, he would lunge, fixate and bark at dogs across the field - he’s waving bye bye to reactivity 🥰
And a big shoutout to his owner Marnie, such a pleasure working with dedicated owners 🫶🏼 this is all down to her hard work and consistency.
My favourite thing about Mabel is she’s a complete nutter and knows how to have fun!
