We are expecting some hot weather over the next few weeks.
Here is some advice and helpful tips to ensure your pond and its inhabitants are safe:

1. Oxygenation:
Hot weather reduces oxygen levels in pond water, which can stress or harm fish.
Increase oxygen by using a fountain, waterfall, or air pump.

2. Temperature Control:
Shade is crucial to prevent overheating.
Use shade cloths, awnings, or strategically placed plants.
Water lilies and other floating plants can provide natural shade.
Avoid sudden temperature changes when adding water.

3. Water Quality:
Monitor and maintain water quality, especially pH and ammonia levels.
Remove decaying vegetation and excess algae to prevent build-up.
Use a pond vacuum or net to remove debris regularly.

4. Feeding:
Reduce the amount and frequency of feeding during hot weather.
Warmer water increases fish metabolism, so feed them when the water is cooler (early morning or late evening).
Ensure fish can easily access the food.

5. Other Tips:
Keep an eye on water levels, as evaporation increases in hot weather always use a tap water conditioner to dechlorinate and protect your fish.
Ensure wildlife ramps are still accessible for creatures needing to get in and out of the pond.
