A little update for you all✨
Do you remember Winnie? She is the gorgeous little sausage🌭who I have had the pleasure of working with. Initially she presented completely paraplegic (with no use of her hind limbs).
How is she doing?
Well take a look at this! During a recent session Winnie was able to start some pole work💪🏽
Winnie is not only moving completely unassisted but working hard at picking all of her limbs up over raised poles - like a broom!🧹
What a superstar⭐️She’ll be moving over multiple poles in no time🤩

A very therapeutic session this week💆🏽♀️This cool dude let out some big groans during his treatment✨
I love a good response like this - it’s even better when you can see (and hear!) the animal feeling the good during their treatment🥰

Winnie the 🌭(Dachshund!)
Winnie is 13 years old and, given her age, had a poor prognosis once diagnosed with a suspected IVDD. Intervertebral disc disease can often result in an increase in pressure through the spinal cord, which reduces signals passing through it. This left Winnie completely paralysed in her back legs and she was forced to drag herself along the ground using her front legs.
Each session we monitored Winnie’s pain perception levels and consistently checked her cutaneous trunchi response through the length of her back - over time this gradually increased/grew stronger💪🏽
Winnie remained deep pain positive (meaning she can feel her toes) throughout this whole process which gave us so much hope🌟
Each session was tailored to meet Winnie’s specific needs on the day whilst also following the plan for recovery🗓️
With dedicated owners and weekly physiotherapy sessions Winnie is now walking a few strides completely unassisted - this started just 6 weeks since the initial paraplegic episode!
Results like this are unbelievably rewarding and make what we do as physiotherapists so special🥰
If you have any questions about this case or anything your dog may be experiencing please get in touch.

A big day!
As it’s the new year what better way to celebrate than to venture outside for the first time in 6 weeks (Although we don’t look very impressed!)
This week this handsome man put on his fanciest harness and we assessed his movement outside. This venture was incredibly stimulating both physically and mentally🐈
Paw stimulation is crucial to encourage nerve reservation and awaken endings that haven’t been stimulated. The wet grass was a perfect way to do this🌲🏡
With a significant increase in hindlimb active range of motion this 10 minute walk outside highlighted just how good this little man is feeling👏

A clients video of their wonderful horse really relaxing into his treatment🦄Here i’m using some myofascial release techniques to reduce trigger points and tension behind the forelimb/girth line. Such a simple technique that can instantly relieve pain and tension💆♀️ Having a horse’s trust like this, where he shifts his weight onto the other forelimb to allow a deeper treatment, is super rewarding. This horse took a few sessions to fully relax into treatments and for me to gain his trust. To work together in this way and to see him completely relax (to the point where I thought he was going to fall over🤣) is one of the reasons why I love my job so much🤍
It's the little signs that are important🐴
Watching clients feel a release during treatment is one of the most rewarding aspects of veterinary physiotherapy. A release can show that the individual is relaxing into treatment and allowing their body to respond. When a trigger point or weak/painful area is targeted and reduced through treatments an animal can perform certain behaviours that highlight the change their body experiences through this region. These releases can be shown as licking/chewing, lip quivers, and a lowered head carriage to name a few.
The client here is visibly relaxed and enjoying his treatment with some occasional lip quivering.
Following treatment he was seen to be yawning and licking whilst also displaying a lower head carriage. Physical releases are great indicators of the difference that physiotherapy creates🐎
Feel free to enquire if you feel that physiotherapy is something that may benefit you and your pet!
