☀️ Heatstroke - it is a thing! ☀️

I’ve said it before (every year actually for the last 9 years), so I’ll say it again.

It’s not being pathetic, it’s not being a wuss, it’s being aware and educated.

Shame on you and your poor dog if you choose not to be.

🧡 Ralph - The very best part of my life! 🧡

This time 7 years ago, I didn’t know there was a little orange puppy arriving into the world, ready to become the most incredible best friend that I am ever going to have.

I live for this dog.

There is simply no amount of explaining that could help you understand what I mean by that.

He is my complete soul mate.

Happy Birthday Ralph. You will never know what you’ve brought to my life.

I love you.

🌱 It’s coming….. 🌱

It’s that time of year, when I start to open the spring diary for breed and energy play dates.

Every dog loves a play date!
Every owner loves a safe play date!

I will be returning to Porters Farm, Ruffian Wood dog field as a venue this year, but if you’d like to see a play date at another venue, please do let me know.

I am looking forward to seeing you all this year, for constructive play and socialisation.

Put your 🐾 up, if you’d like to join us in 2024!

I’d love to see your pictures in the comments, Ralph and I miss these sessions during winter!

🍼🤰Are you expecting? 🍼🤰

Bringing any new family member into the home, requires preparation and planning, and bringing a new baby home is no different.

Do you remember all the effort that you went to, to prepare for your new furry family member to join your home? You thought about it all!

And now…you are probably making (similar) preparations and adjustments (around the home), to prepare for your new human family member to join your home!

BUT…..what are you doing to prepare your dog for their new family member??!

Arriving home with a small human, requires adjustments for all the household (including your dog), and it is important to prepare for this.

Most dogs tend to like routine, so unless they're thoroughly prepared for the changes that new babies can bring, you may find that your dog becomes unsettled and/or demonstrates some unwanted behavioural changes.

If you aren’t sure how to help your dog prepare for a newborn baby, please get in touch and I will walk you through my 121 specialist sessions.

P.s Ralph and I send our congratulations! 👏🎉🎊

🎄 Thank you for 2023🎄

There is little to say except thank you for another supportive year.

Walk’Em is nearly 8 years old now, and change is coming!

2024, is going to look a little different and we look forward to sharing it with you, very soon.

For now, Ralph and I send you our very best wishes for a peaceful end to the year.

ℹ️ XL Bully Legislation ℹ️

The change is coming, with less than three weeks to go (to the first stage), it is important that we (a nation of dog lovers), all play our part in complying with this change.

Whether you agree or not (I am not getting into it), we must work with the following:

⚠️ Stage 1

From 31 December 2023 it will be against the law to:

ℹ️ sell an XL Bully dog
ℹ️ abandon an XL Bully dog or let it stray
ℹ️ give away an XL Bully dog
ℹ️ breed from an XL Bully dog
ℹ️ have an XL Bully dog in public without a lead and muzzle

⚠️ Stage 2

From 1 February 2024 it will be a criminal offence to own an XL Bully dog in England and Wales unless your dog has a valid Certificate of Exemption.

We can all help by educating and informing, so let’s continue with that in mind:

✔️ How to check if your dog is classed as an XL bully.

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/official-definition-of-an-xl-bully-dog

✔️ How to apply for an exemption certificate and details of the required criteria .

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/apply-for-a-certificate-of-exemption-to-keep-an-xl-bully-dog

I know it’s a contentious subject, I’ve not discussed it in public and don’t plan to.

Let’s simply do what we can.
Let’s help, educate and inform.
Let’s preserve human and animal life.
Let’s mitigate risk.

I love my dog dearly, he is my whole world, and I understand the anger, I understand the pain, and I understand the worry.

So, let’s do our best for them, by following the rules.

What more is there to say?!!?! 😍🥹

It would be fair to say I’m pretty direct with my training, one (paying) client evens refers to me as savage (to humans only). 😂

However, I really do just care and want to make a difference.

Things will be changing for Walk’Em in the new year (for the first time since launching), but for now, I’m really proud to share this.

🐾 £20 Virtual Trouble Shooting Sessions 🐾

As we find ourselves leaning in to the chaos of Christmas, I’m aware that this can suddenly present problems for our households.

Whether it is other people walking your dog, house guests or other visiting dogs, Christmas can present a multitude of challenges for dog owners.

For this festive period only, I am offering 30 minute virtual slots to give you tips and advice on trouble shooting some key areas such as loose lead walking, pulling on the lead, guests arriving at the door and socialisation in your household.

Virtual sessions are something that I’ve always stayed away from, I don’t think they are as valuable as in person sessions but I do understand we are all short on time at this time of year.

If you’d like a 30 minute guidance call, please do get in contact.

They are a fixed price of £20 and spaces are limited.

Ralph and I look forward to hearing from you.

💍 My humans have some news! 💍

So, last weekend went like this:

✔️ Dad was weird and Mum was busy.
✔️ Dad made us go to the beach (in the dark).
✔️ Mum was annoyed (as she was tired and smelt of horses).
✔️ Dad seemed to hop around on one knee but in a weird crouch.
✔️ Mum then started to cry.
✔️ Mum then cried for a really really long time and people stared at her.
✔️ Then more people came and also cried.
✔️ Then everyone was happy and made us have a bubbly drink at the beach.
✔️ Now Mum has something sparkly which she seems to love as much as me.

I don’t know what happened but there were a lot of tears, a lot of cuddles (some for me), and they made me wear this?!!

However, this year I’m going to make the lead up to Christmas a little more fun for all of us, with some Festive Party Play Dates!

🤔 What is a Festive Party Play Date?!

During your festive play date there will be prizes and awards given for the following:

🤶 Best festive human.
🎅 Best festive dog.
🎄 Best festive party trick.
🥇 Overall Dog of the party.

All parties will include:
☑️ Free Parking
☑️ Controlled Social Play
☑️ Festive Party Bag (for your dog not you) 😂
☑️ Discount Code for 2024 Training
☑️ Prizes

Depending on the levels of interest, I will group the classes, whether it is by breed, size and/or energy levels.

🐶 Puppy Classes 🐶

I’ve recently been asked about puppy classes that will get you up and running in the early/first stages of your puppy coming home.

I’m currently looking into venues in the Kelvedon/Feering area (from October onwards), and I am happy to take names of anyone interested.

I do have a list of eager humans already, so please do reach out if you’d like to consider joining.

🐾 Results 🐾

Any of my clients will know that I work on building a relationship with your dog, ensuring your dog’s education is based on the foundations of trust and respect.

I am extremely vocal and passionate about your dog’s behaviour being driven by these core values, and it is for this reason that I take my time when training dogs, and purposefully dictate the pace.

🐾 I won’t guarantee you taaaadaaah moments.
🐾 I won’t guarantee that your dog can loose lead walk within five minutes.
🐾 I won’t guarantee you that your dog will be a ready made package in 8 sessions.
🐾 I won’t guarantee you that your dog will be ’magically fixed’ in one session.

🐾 I will guarantee you that your dog (and you), will become a partnership, and that you will learn to understand your dogs behaviour and mind to enable you and your dog to enjoy life to the maximum.

It is my believe that it is a privilege to own an animal (not a right), and therefore, the responsibility of education is also a privilege.

So…..

When I receive videos like this from a long term client, saying that they are proud of their dog and themselves for getting to this point, I am proud too.

A content and obedient (happy) dog, is a partner for life.

NB: Millie is a Vizsla with an extremely high prey drive, and it has been a long (12 + months) to get to this point.

I couldn’t be prouder of her parents and all their hard work, along with Millie herself.

🐾 Ralph 🐾

He isn’t just a dog. No, really….he isn’t.

🧡He is the missing piece of my brain jigsaw that keeps me well, stable, and healthy.

🧡He fills my heart with love that I’ve never experienced from another human.

🧡 He gives me everything his whole heart and body has, and in return he just wants a walk and a bowl of food.

How many people do we have in our lives that we can say that about?!

I absolutely live for Ralph, in every way I can possibly mean that sentence.

He is my reason.

So….I give him every reason to enjoy his (unfairly short), dog life.

😡 And it begins…. 😡

Anyone who knows me knows that I am a stickler for managing your dog in the heat.

I have a reputation for cancelling on hot days, and I’m proud of that. I will not put your dogs welfare at risk, and I won’t tolerate an ‘oh it’s fine’ approach to hot weather.

It’s my absolute ‘red button’ when it comes to owning a dog, (which I may add, is a privilege of being a human)!

Today, I had my second experience of finding dogs being left in a car with the outside temperature at 22.5 degrees at this point.

By the process of elimination we quickly worked out these dogs had been in the car for at least twenty minutes. One was noisy, one was very silent, both were panting and drooling.

We quickly took action, the police were informed, and I have no shame in saying I lost my s # with the owners after searching them out in the service station person by person.

I am pleased to say that both dogs are ok despite being very visually distressed and unwell at the time of dealing with the situation.

Why??!! Why were they left in god knows what temperature inside the car??!

I’ll tell you why…..

The owners wanted a Burger King!

So they decided to go inside the services and have a sit down burger on what is the hottest day of the year (so far), whilst leaving their car in the streaming sunshine and one window open by about an inch.

I’m angry, really angry. How long were they planning on being in the services because I am 100% certain they would have come back to two dead dogs.

There is simply no excuse, however, rather than just rant and achieve nothing, let’s all assume there are more morons like this and all play our part in educating others.

Dogs die in hot cars. It’s not hard to understand.

🧡🐾 Swimming 🐾🧡

For the first time in 2023, Ralph and I were back to it with our swimming.

We haven’t swam together since last Autumn, I just wasn’t ready for minus temperatures during the Winter but today we went back to Dedham (our favourite place), and cracked on with a 9 degrees swim.

It took me a little longer than I expected to get in but once I’d got my focus back (I don’t like cold water), we were off!

⚠️ 𝐂𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐏𝐀𝐑𝐕𝐎𝐕𝐈𝐑𝐔𝐒 ⚠️

It has been highlighted by a local practice that Parvo has been diagnosed and treated within Essex, specifically in Colchester.

🙋‍♀️ What is parvo?

Parvovirus is a highly virulent virus that targets the intestines, causing severe bloody diarrhoea, vomiting and abdominal pain. Affected dogs and puppies become weak, lethargic and dehydrated.

🤔 How can my dog get it?

Parvovirus is spread through direct or indirect contact with the faeces of an infected dog. Contaminated surfaces, including grass, shoes, bowls and human skin, are therefore potential sources of infection, and as Parvo is a very hardy virus it can survive for months on surfaces that have not been adequately disinfected.

ℹ️ What are the symptoms?

Symptoms of parvovirus will normally start five to seven days after infection, although there have been cases reports of anywhere between two and fourteen days.

The early symptoms are:
◾️ High temperatures
◾️ Less energy than normal
◾️ Loss of appetite

After 24-48 hours, this escalates to:
◾️ Vomiting
◾️ Severe diarrhoea, often containing blood

👉 Can it be treated?

𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐯𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐮𝐬 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐛𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 – 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞’𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐚 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜 𝐝𝐫𝐮𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐝, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐥 𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐝 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐚 𝐝𝐨𝐠 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐠𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭.

If you feel your dog may be showing signs of Parvovirus, please call your vet immediately.

It is likely you will be asked to wait in your car to prevent the spread of the virus.

⭐️ Breed and Size Play Dates Are Back ⭐️

Many of you know, I’m not a fan of wild meet ups (in a public space) of a large number of dogs.

My reasons why are not complicated, however, I am aware that some often go ahead successfully, so this is my personal opinion only.

That said, what I am a fan of is my structured play dates, specifically designed to give your dog (and you) confidence in off lead play.

The aim is simply guided play (as a group), with everyone leaving with a smile on their face.

So, it is time to launch session 1!

I will be hosting an early morning medium/large size play date on Sunday 23rd April at 7am.

What you need to know:
✔️ Hosted in a secure/enclosed field of 15 acres.
✔️ Dogs will have on and off lead time.
✔️ It’s not a training session.
✔️ It is a managed session with structure.

What is provided:
✔️ Guided support from myself.
✔️ Free parking.
✔️ Water.
✔️ Poo Bags.

Why would you pick these over a free meet up in a park:
✔️ Dogs are under control of an owner at all times.
✔️ Dogs are in an enclosed and secure space at all times.
✔️ I provide support and guidance on how to get the best from your dog for safe and sensible play.
✔️ Dogs can be unloaded in a secure enclosed space away from the road.
✔️ The session goes at everyone’s pace, no one is pushed out of their comfort zone including your dog.
✔️ You will leave with your dog calmly and appropriately at the end of the session.
✔️ You will be able to interact and socialise as an owner because the session will be under control.
✔️ You can come as a family.

These slots go fast, so book your slot now and message me directly.

If you are not sure if this slot is for you, please send me a WhatsApp.

We look forward to seeing you for our Spring sessions.

It will soon be 2 years since his accident, and every day I look at him and will him to know his place in my heart.

It will only ever be Ralph.

He is my 🧡 dog.

🐾 Get On The List 🐾

With a full diary (and not a single space for new clients), Ralph and I haven’t been very active on our socials.

That said, we have had a chat today (as you can see), and we discussed bringing back the following sessions for Spring:

🍃 Vizsla Breed Play Date
🍃 Labrador Breed Play Date
🍃 Spaniel Breed Play Date
🍃 Mixed Small Breed Play Date
🍃 Mixed Medium and Large Play Date

Based on last years success, I couldn’t deliver enough of these managed sessions in an enclosed (15 acre) secure space.

So, if you would like to get your name down, please comment below as I will work on a first come first served basis.

I will not expand the numbers on the groups, it will be 8-10 dogs max.

We look forward to seeing you all soon!
