Week 6
🐾 recall - smashed it with all 6 puppies recalling at the same time
🐾 loose lead walking - amazing with the distraction of all puppies walking at the same time
🐾 desensitisation with fun activities and humans dressing up & carrying things ... brilliant handler skills and all puppies enjoyed the experience
🐾 stay - owners able to take steps away from their puppy
🐾 tricks - fantastic tricks by all puppies (videos to follow)

☀️🐾Summer Heat wave🐾☀️

☀️We wanted to give a reminder to everyone about hot pavements and your puppies paws!☀️

🐾Pavement / road temperatures can get very hot during the summer and can reach temperatures 40-60 times hotter than the outside air temperature!

🐾You can carry out a simple test to find out how hot the surface is- The 7 Second pavement test rule. If it hurts you to keep either the back of your hand or your bare foot on the road / pavement surface for 7 seconds then it is too hot and not suitable for your dog to walk on!

🐾Remember - we wear shoes to protect our feet but our dogs do not - help protect them from burnt paws by being aware how hot these surfaces can become!

🐾Choose alternative surfaces such as grass areas for your dogs and puppies as they are generally cooler- but do still remember to check the outside weather temperatures. Choosing times of the day when it is much cooler such as very early morning or very late at night will help as pavements should be cooler. However, please do still remember even at these times that if the outside temperature is still too warm to walk your puppies and dogs safely and prevent them suffering heatstroke or burnt paws then give it is a miss!🐾

There is so much we need to know as puppy and dog parents. Water always needs to be available for them, but we need to make sure it is the right type of water and that they don’t drink too mich 🐾🐾

💧 Water Intoxication in Dogs 💧

Drinking too much water can be harmful! During the summer months, your pets are at risk of developing water intoxication, which causes the depletion of sodium and chloride levels which are required for the body to function! This can lead to collapse, loss of consciousness and seizures. 😫

It most commonly happens when dogs are swimming and accidentally ingest the water, or after playing and drinking copious amounts. 🐶

Be sure to monitor your dog while they are swimming and take frequent breaks! 🐶

Symptoms to look out for include:
💧 Lack of Coordination
💧 Tremors
💧 Lethargy
💧 Nausea
💧 Vomiting
💧 Bloating
💧 Large pupils
💧 Excessive Salivation
💧 Convulsions

If you notice that your pet is suffering from any of the above symptoms after playing in water, please call us!

It's been almost a year since Albus Wire Haired Vizsla was at Puppy School. He was such a good boy. His lovely humans gave me this lovely cyclamen plant at the end of the course. Every time I water it, I think of Albus. I hope he is doing as well as my plant 🐾🐾💜
