This time we managed to have birthday pork pie without an “incident”!! Happy birthday Freya!!! 💜💜🐾🐾#bedlingtonsofinstagram #dogbehaviour #dogbirthday #reactiverupert
Reactive Rupert diary day 6… he’s on high alert! Took Rupert out today on his own and funny enough it didn’t make any difference without Edie. But he did take treats so not stressed and once he let a dog off lead walk past up while he focused on me. Very proud mum! #bedlingtonsofinstagram #dogbehaviour #reactivedog #reactiverupert
Day 5 Reactive Rupert diary… okay so this is the unedited footage from today’s walk. He’d been doing so well in the worse part of our walk when he spotted a Border Collie. Actually it wasn’t Rupert who was the worst this time. Edie has a problem with collies! And boy does she show it. But Rupert is calming down quicker. Next time I’ll have to leave Edie at home! #bedlingtonsofinstagram #dogbehaviour #reactivedog #reactiverupert
Reactive Rupert Training Diary day three… video and some thoughts.
On the day that I took Rupert and Edie out for a long walk it made a difference. I posted the video and watched it back several times. Here’s what I noticed.
1. At the start of the walk, Rupert is not really relaxed. He and Edie are excited to get out. But they settle quickly and walk nicely.
2. It doesn’t matter what I am using on Rupert. I am waiting for a new Halti head collar for him. Using a harness or a collar or a slip lead hasn’t made any difference.
3. We were walking along and a man and an English Bull Terrier walked out of a side road and away from us. Even though us owners exchanged “hellos” Rupert ignored the dog completely. (See video of the bit afterwards)
4. When we did come across a group of three dogs, two Bedlingtons and a Whippet, both my two looked interested. But made no sound.
5. It wasn’t until the dogs started moving towards Rupert that he went over threshold. And when I asked him to move away he did initially but a pull on the lead to take him away set him off worse and he did start to bark and lunge.
6. He did settle back to his base line quickly afterwards.
I’m determined to help him get past this behaviour. Or at least to learn to ignore dogs. He did when he was a puppy, and when he was at dog shows so I know he can do it. #bedlingtonsofinstagram #dogtraining #dogbehaviour #reactivedog #yellowdogproject #reactiverupert

Day 2 of Reactive Rupert’s training. This isn’t all of the video but it is the most interesting. We went out, walked longer than usual and he even ignored an English Bull Terrier who was walking away from us. It was only when we got to the poo bin that it started to go wrong. But I learned a huge lesson here. Can you see what it is? #reactiverupert #reactivedogsofinstagram #dogtraining #bedlingtonsofinstagram
Take a photo of the dogs? Easy… and then Rupert decides to photobomb the frame!
Merry Christmas everyone!

Recall practice!
Here's Edie and Rupert practicing their recall to a whistle.
It's been a weird 2023... there have been highs and lows, arrivals and losses, lots of changes some good some bad. But throughout the whole year it's been my family, my friends, my clients and their dogs who have kept me going.
So with Edie and Boudi all settled down, the whole team want to wish our friends - old and new - a very Happy New Year!
And we're forward to meeting more of you in 2024!
Sara, Kathy, Edie, Rupert, Boudi and Freya 🐾🐾🐾🐾
