No dogs boarding here this weekend so thought I’d do something a bit different. Here are some facts for everyone about me.
Previously to my job I was a neonatal sister at frimley park. I worked on the children’s ward for about 18 mths from 2004 before moving to the neonatal unit. I became a sister in 2013.
I won awards for the unit and a leading charity videoed my unit and myself because of my work. It’s still on their website to this day!
Doug and Winston’s mum was actually my mentor when I was a nursing student. Small world.
My first pets were max and Missy my cats. I got them shortly after my honeymoon in 2008. Sadly Missy passed away in January. Max is still here and thinks he’s a dog. He turns 17 in May. All the dogs love him, in particular Arlo who always gives him a little groom.
Following my husbands cancer diagnosis and huge operation ( laryngectomy and oesophagectomy) we decided to get a dog. We had booked a trip to Lapland for December to find Santa so decided to get one in Jan. However we started following rescue sites and fell in love with danny. In laws booked in for our holiday we adopted danny in November 2018. He was from Crete and 5 mths old. He is actually German shepherd crossed with a dauchsund and a pincher would you believe! His mum and siblings are all tiny. I have photos as proof as am friends with a lovely lady from the shelter he was born in.
Following Ben’s terminal diagnosis I took 2 years off work but decided to foster dogs. I started off with the charity I got danny from. Jodie was foster 6 who ben and danny fell in love with so after 2 weeks we adopted her. She is from Crete and lived tied up on a farm in the mountains. She was seriously malnourished and underweight and took a long time to slowly feed up. Sadly a month after adoption ben went into icu so never really got to know or see Jodie grow. As he passed away a mth later never coming home. She was guessed to be the same age as danny. They both turn 7 this year. Her and danny are the complete opposites but are fantastic together. Jodie is the soppiest thing ever and so many dog owners know her by name now and adore her.
After ben died I started fostering for another charity with dogs from Romania. To date I’ve fostered 17 dogs in total. Some for a number of months
Ashur now Chester was one of my fosters who has returned to me to board here! It was great to see him and I’ve kept in touch and met up a number of times with him and his parents.
I had discussed leaving nursing with ben and discussed doing this job with him and his friends.I didn’t think I was brave enough. I went on to discuss with sally ( danny’s dog walker) this afraid of what she’d think and with her encouragement took the scary plunge and she helped me set up wags n whiskers petcare. My first walk was Jan 6th 2022. With one dog. That day I earnt £13. It was the biggest and scariest hour ever. But the best.
Wags n whiskers petcare was born.
To this day I still walk dogs from when I first set up. Storm, Tessa, Kali, Milo, Pippa to name a few. I love that my company is like a little family and most of the dogs have met each other.
When I met Andy in 2023 I not only had him become part of my family but also his dog Bertie who has now become my dog. He is a Labrador and turns 4 this year. He loves food and balls, eats sticks but is afraid to swim in water! He was very shy but loves being around other dogs and is now very vocal and playful. His favourite dogs to play with is Max who is also from the same rescue as danny and Jodie and Leo ( the non spaniel Leo) and they just go crazy.
Andy has become a huge part of our family and all the dogs love him. Thomas and Andy know all the dogs and love seeing them here as much as they get excited to see them here. One of my dogs I board isn’t great with men and I was worried how she’d be with Andy but she adores him which was a big test with myself and her mum. He’s the soppiest thing with the dogs.
One last secret:
I never used to like dogs 😂😂
It took years for me to agree to get a dog and danny turned me into a complete dog crazy mum.
Look what happens!
Sorry for the long post but thought it would be a bit different for everyone.
Happy Saturday all!
