Wags n Whiskers Petcare

Wags n Whiskers Petcare Welcome to Wags n Whiskers petcare. I offer various services and am 5* rated by Hart district council for boarding.

License number: NS00136/A_ANIM

During a career break from Nursing I started fostering dogs and soon realised that Caring for dogs was my future. I own two cats and added a second dog to my family after falling in love with my sixth foster. I started in January and have some fantastic doggies and families on my books as well. I love nothing better than building that relationship with the dogs and

seeing them enjoy themselves whilst in my care. I have since been awarded 4 stars from Hart District Council for doggy daycare and Boarding. I can board up to 4 doggies plus my two at any one time and offer a home from home for them with lots of fun and snuggles.

PLEASE READ.
A reminder I am off work Friday May 2nd and Monday June 30th for family things! 👰🏻‍♀️💍

I have also become a limited company this month so will have new payment details which I will add onto your invoices. This will be a business account as I am now technically a company! Please keep your eye out. I will be trying to sort the attached email to be up to date with dates off etc.

I have also come to the decision to take a weekend off once a month. This will affect boarding. I am not sure how I will work it, it won’t come into effect for a while anyway as I have bookings but I need to prioritise family life more as I have little time to do things at weekends due to looking after all your lovely doggies!
Thomas is 16 this year and whilst he’s still happy ( ish) to see and do things with his old mum I need to take advantage lol. I will let you all know further details once I have figured it out but it will probably be a set weekend ( like the first of the mth) each month. I hope everyone understands but everyone needs a work life balance and I don’t have much of one currently.

Have a lovely weekend all!

I would like to say a BIG congratulations to Leo my daycare doggies pawrents for the safe arrival of baby Isaac James born on April fools day no less weighing a lovely 7.7 pounds. Will and Lauren brought baby Isaac over tonight when collecting Leo and I of course stole him instantly for cuddles and he is scrummy! 💙
Congratulations and I’m glad all went smoothly!

No dogs boarding here this weekend so thought I’d do something a bit different. Here are some facts for everyone about me.

Previously to my job I was a neonatal sister at frimley park. I worked on the children’s ward for about 18 mths from 2004 before moving to the neonatal unit. I became a sister in 2013.
I won awards for the unit and a leading charity videoed my unit and myself because of my work. It’s still on their website to this day!

Doug and Winston’s mum was actually my mentor when I was a nursing student. Small world.

My first pets were max and Missy my cats. I got them shortly after my honeymoon in 2008. Sadly Missy passed away in January. Max is still here and thinks he’s a dog. He turns 17 in May. All the dogs love him, in particular Arlo who always gives him a little groom.

Following my husbands cancer diagnosis and huge operation ( laryngectomy and oesophagectomy) we decided to get a dog. We had booked a trip to Lapland for December to find Santa so decided to get one in Jan. However we started following rescue sites and fell in love with danny. In laws booked in for our holiday we adopted danny in November 2018. He was from Crete and 5 mths old. He is actually German shepherd crossed with a dauchsund and a pincher would you believe! His mum and siblings are all tiny. I have photos as proof as am friends with a lovely lady from the shelter he was born in.

Following Ben’s terminal diagnosis I took 2 years off work but decided to foster dogs. I started off with the charity I got danny from. Jodie was foster 6 who ben and danny fell in love with so after 2 weeks we adopted her. She is from Crete and lived tied up on a farm in the mountains. She was seriously malnourished and underweight and took a long time to slowly feed up. Sadly a month after adoption ben went into icu so never really got to know or see Jodie grow. As he passed away a mth later never coming home. She was guessed to be the same age as danny. They both turn 7 this year. Her and danny are the complete opposites but are fantastic together. Jodie is the soppiest thing ever and so many dog owners know her by name now and adore her.

After ben died I started fostering for another charity with dogs from Romania. To date I’ve fostered 17 dogs in total. Some for a number of months

Ashur now Chester was one of my fosters who has returned to me to board here! It was great to see him and I’ve kept in touch and met up a number of times with him and his parents.

I had discussed leaving nursing with ben and discussed doing this job with him and his friends.I didn’t think I was brave enough. I went on to discuss with sally ( danny’s dog walker) this afraid of what she’d think and with her encouragement took the scary plunge and she helped me set up wags n whiskers petcare. My first walk was Jan 6th 2022. With one dog. That day I earnt £13. It was the biggest and scariest hour ever. But the best.

Wags n whiskers petcare was born.

To this day I still walk dogs from when I first set up. Storm, Tessa, Kali, Milo, Pippa to name a few. I love that my company is like a little family and most of the dogs have met each other.

When I met Andy in 2023 I not only had him become part of my family but also his dog Bertie who has now become my dog. He is a Labrador and turns 4 this year. He loves food and balls, eats sticks but is afraid to swim in water! He was very shy but loves being around other dogs and is now very vocal and playful. His favourite dogs to play with is Max who is also from the same rescue as danny and Jodie and Leo ( the non spaniel Leo) and they just go crazy.

Andy has become a huge part of our family and all the dogs love him. Thomas and Andy know all the dogs and love seeing them here as much as they get excited to see them here. One of my dogs I board isn’t great with men and I was worried how she’d be with Andy but she adores him which was a big test with myself and her mum. He’s the soppiest thing with the dogs.

One last secret:

I never used to like dogs 😂😂
It took years for me to agree to get a dog and danny turned me into a complete dog crazy mum.

Look what happens!

Sorry for the long post but thought it would be a bit different for everyone.

Happy Saturday all!

A big welcome to Kasper who will be joining the wags n whiskers family from April. This lovely little boy is a 2 year old cockapoo who will hopefully make lots of lovely new friends with us. I actually know kasper from seeing him out on his walks with his mum so when I realised who he was today I was delighted. I can’t wait to start walking him and find out more about him 😍

I hope Tessa’s mum doesn’t mind me posting but I found out today poor Tess has been extremely poorly and had 2 emergency operations last week. Sending her so much love and positive thoughts, and her mum too! Get well soon please Tess! 🐾 ❤️

This is despicable!
So not only do professional dog walkers who pay each year to have insurance to walk 6 dogs plus pay out for the license for boarding we are now being told we can only walk 4 dogs at swinley forest the same as the public who do NOT have insurance, but for the privilege it will be £600 per year!!!!!!

ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING!

Please I urge all of my clients who see me walking their dogs up there to email.

If I wanted to walk on MOD land it is £400 and I can walk 6 at any one time.

This is purely a money making exercise and makes zero sense!
I am appalled!

£600 a year for me to walk 4 dogs in Swinley forest.
Such a shame.

Sadly another new rule without consideration has come into play in the local crown estate meaning I’ll no longer be able to do my long home walks first thing at muzzies. They’ve decided to bring in a license ( unsure if there’s a cost involved yet but I’m sure there will be) and only allowed to walk up to 4 dogs.
The only good thing is it says you can walk with another but not to exceed 8 so at weekends Andy and I can still enjoy our walks there.

I also don’t understand why we’d need to pay for a license if dog owners don’t, particularly as we already pay for insurance and boarding license. Very unfair if this is the case especially as the amount I’d be walking there will drastically reduce.

If any of my clients would like to email saying they cannot understand why professional dog walkers covered by insurance cannot walk 6 up there when owners not covered can walk 4 I’d be grateful.

Lots of us enjoy walking there as it’s so vast we can keep away from others.
This will affect us all as we will now have to either
* reduce numbers
* walk somewhere else that’s much busier with the public
* do more walks meaning less time at home which isn’t feasible with dogs boarding
* drop number of clients in my books or
* increase prices.
* reduce length of walks.

I’ve already heard of one walker who’s decided to no longer do walks and just do daycare. This will affect the dog owners greatly who cannot find a dog walker as we will be much busier having to fit more walks in to less time.

We all work hard to control the dogs in our care and be polite and courteous to the public. This is in a place of acres of land. It’s another cost exercise sadly affecting us all. I’m often praised by rangers and the public up there at how lovely my pack is and how well behaved. We move out of the way for the walkers, running club, cyclists when we get little courtesy back.

Just yesterday I took my Monday group up to swinley for a change which I’ll no longer be able to do. This morning I’m off to muzzies but I’ve 5 so I’ll no longer be able to do this.

PLEASE email on behalf of us all.

A sad day today in our house. We said goodbye to my darling cat Missy who very suddenly became unwell today and we let her pass over the rainbow bridge. Her and her brother were my first fur babies and I’ll miss her ever so much.

Sleep well darling girl 🐾🌈

That’s it from me until the new year! I’d like to thank everyone for all their support with my little business! It’s that time of year where I give thanks, and it’s to have such lovely, loyal clients and doggies in my business. Running your own business is hard work and a very personal thing and I love that I have such a great relationship with everyone that’s part of my business, that the dogs that come into my home are happy and content here as much as my 3 and that Thomas and Andy love them all as much as I do. You have once again spoilt me ( and even the dogs and cats) and thank you for all the lovely words in your cards also! I will see everyone when I’m back on January 6th, I’ve just sid the cat to look after over Christmas. Have a wonderful Christmas and new year! I know all the doggies will be getting a visit from Santa paws as they’ve all been so good! 🎅🏻🐾🎄 HAPPY CHRISTMAS ### 🎄🐾🎅🏻

The girls from 2 left paws and those that have now gone onto their new ventures ( such as Hannah) since I set up my business have been such a help spreading the word for me to help me find lovely doggies to walk and have become friends too!

I feel extremely lucky to be in the job I am and have such lovely clients! All the lovely feedback I get means the world to me! 🥰
