As a family, we all love pigs. This is something probably born from mothers stories of the pet pig she owned in the early 1930's. Her pig would always come into the house to sit beside her whilst she took piano lessons.
When the time came, and we could provide the right environment, we bought our very own pet micro pigs.
People who met our little pigs loved them and asked if we'd ever have piglets as they'd also like to become owners. It sounded fun and two years on we had a mother with her first litter of beautiful little micro pig babies.
Our experience of ownership was extremely rewarding and we received the same feedback from new owners.
We had more enquiries and more litters were born, the rest as they say is history. Petpiggies Micro Pig Breeder!
Whilst our 'herd' has grown in numbers, our pigs remain our pets, just as they were before we started breeding, and just as they always will be, piglet sales or not.
Petpiggies breed micro pigs for sale to good homes and enjoy enabling others to share our experience of these beautiful creatures through ownership.
Petpiggies is not a 'piglet farm', constantly breeding pigs and then finding ways to sell them, in fact breeding only takes place when we receive enough interest or demand from suitable prospective owners.
Keeping pigs as pets became popular in the 1960's and when you learn pigs are companionable, highly intelligent and extremely clean, it's perhaps not surprising the number of owners increase every year.
Today there are over a million pet pigs in the USA, some micro pigs even have celebrity owners like the Beckhams, Miley Cyrus, Paris Hilton, Megan Fox, Jonathan Ross & Charlotte Church.
Famously, George Clooney owned a pet pig for 19 years, sadly Max passed away in 2001.
For our website www.petpiggies.co.uk to be a success, prospective micro pig owners will leave with a better understanding of pigs as pets and the issues surrounding them.
If we’ve done our job properly you'll avoid wasting your time and ours. Of far greater importance is the chances of taking on a new pet for the wrong reasons will be greatly reduced as well as any likelihood of future rehoming or abandonment.
To take on any new pet is a huge responsibility and gaining as much information as possible about your new pet, and its needs, is essential to a long and happy relationship for both owner and pet.
Obvious advice you'd think but clearly ignored by those responsible for abandoning thousands of pets on our streets every year. Over 100,000 dogs were abandoned in 2017 alone!
With the increasing number of pet pigs being purchased, we're now seeing a rise in numbers of pigs being abandoned.
There are many reasons, or excuses, as to why pets are abandoned however, when it comes to pet pigs, one reason stands out way above any other with owners claiming their pigs had grown to be very much bigger than expected.
Naturally we'd hate to think one of our piglets would ever be made homeless and rely on a variety of measures to prevent such an occurrence, our 'homes first' policy being at the forefront of these.
Since eventual adult size is such a 'huge' issue, let's take a minute and provide a summary of the comprehensive information in respect of micro pig sizes found in our videos here: https://youtu.be/W0_N0jS7BSc
At birth, its not possible to predict the exact eventual adult size of human offspring to the nearest centimetre therefore the following information should be viewed as a reliable 'guide' to the adult sizes of micro pigs.
A reputable breeder will tell you micro pig piglets are much smaller at birth than other breeds of pigs and may even fit into a tea cup.
We know puppies & kittens grow to become full size dogs & cats, their adult sizes reflecting the various breeds therefore you'd naturally expect a micro pig piglet to become a full size micro pig.
