What characters these two are 😁 I just had to share their story. Luna a 10.5 year old French Bulldog the only pet in her family was horrified when Marley first came into the family’s lives. Marley was discovered by the family whilst relocating when they called into a Bistro for a meal. The sorriest sight broke their heart when they set eyes on poor Marley, who was begging for food from dinners and not getting a warm reception, the family fed the cat and was approached by the Bistro owner who said he was getting complaints about the Cat who was also going into the campsite, going into tents and getting into campers sleeping bags. Marley had irreversible damage to his ears due to mites,Ticks, fleas, no voice uncared for and unloved. The family just had to help him they took him to the vet to check for a microchip which there was none, got the cat treatment, appealed for an owner to come forward but nothing. There was only one thing to do adopt him. He has now been microchipped, has lived with the family for several years and his voice has returned. Marley got his name from the song don’t worry by Bob Marley, Luna and Marley are the best of friends and are rarely apart thanks to the kindness of one family 🥰

🩺Bloat: GASTRIC DILATATION VOLVULUS

⚠️Bloat is a serious emergency situation. If you suspect your dog has symptoms of a bloat, please contact your nearest practice immediately. Swift action is crucial!

➡️With bloat, the dog’s stomach expands and twists, then fills with gas. Bloat is more commonly seen in larger, deep chested breeds. Causes include exercising to soon after a meal or a large drink.

❗️Symptoms of a bloat may include:
• Large, bloated tummy
• Vomiting or trying to vomit but nothing is coming up
• Drooling
• Pain around stomach area
• Pale gums
• Collapse

👉Treatment is emergency surgery, so spotting the symptoms early is the best way to get your pet the help they need.

🐍 Adder Season 🐍

With warmer temps upon us, most veterinarians will see an increase in adder bites. Adders will be coming out of hibernation and warming themselves in the sun 🌞

Adders are most commonly found on dry, sandy heaths, sand dunes, rocky hillsides, moorlands and woodland edges. 🌳

Signs of an adder bite can include:
🔴Rapid and progressive swelling around the bite site
🔴Pain
🔴Lethargy
🔴Vomiting
🔴Bruising
🔴Bleeding
🔴Collapse

What should you do if your pet has been bitten by an adder?
➡️Keep calm
➡️Do not interfere with the bite
➡️Do not apply a tourniquet
➡️Do not interfere with the snake Only take a photo where possible
➡️Do not kill the snake – it is a protected species.
➡️If practical, carry your dog to your car and go to your veterinary surgeon - do not delay seeking advice even if your pet is well as things can change quickly.

🐕Pets are most commonly bitten on the leg, head or neck. Mostly due to them investigating the snake out of curiosity

Most pets make a full recovery and some do not even require an antivenom. ❤️
