Description:

Sam is a young Springer Spaniel who is a little nervous of the outside world and needs a confident and patient pair of hands to show him what the world can offer in terms of true springer spaniel lifestyle.

Sam lives with a young children and gets along with them. We are happy to place him with children over the age of 10. Sam will need work with training and socialisation so the owners will need to have a spare time to invest in him.

Sam doesn't live with dogs and is generally quite nervous in their company, owning to a neighbours dog 'attacking' him. He didn't need any vet treatment so we believe it was more of an altercation and as it happened in his early months, it has left him fearful. We believe a calm female who will show confidence with her interactions with him and other dogs would be really helpful. He may need a little time to adjust to living with them. A female (spayed) dog that is playful outside the home and calm inside would be perfect.

Sam does live with a cat, but chases them, so we are looking for a cat free home.

Sam doesn't have a regular walking routine, its not daily or structured at present, and this may indeed contribute to his fear of dogs as he is not interacting with them daily. We would like to build up Sam's walking with structure and stimulation and just see where it takes us in terms of his activity and enjoyment in different environments. He is walked on a head collar and lead currently.

Sam isn't currently let off his lead so recall training will be needed.

Sam doesn't have any behavioural issues, he is a quiet boy and doesn't bark. He is playful in the house and enjoys balls. He can pick up stones when in the garden, so a fosterer must keep an eye on this that he doesn't eat them.

Sam is crate trained and sleeps on his bed downstairs.

Sam doesn't like to be left for long periods, so a fosterer would need to be around for most of the time and be prepared to work up slowly the time he could be left alone. He can look to chew socks or plants / stones when left alone, but we would hope with a more structured routine this could be curtailed.

Sam is based in York please be aware to foster you need to collect him, he travels well in the car.

If you feel you can help Sam, please PM or email us and we can chat some more about what you can offer.

A plea for help for the sweetest girl who has been overlooked for the longest time 😢💔

This is what Rhinestone’s foster carer has to say…

Rhinestone is a 5 year old Cockerpoo who arrived at the rescue in November 2023 and has been with me in foster since early April 2024. She hasn’t had a single application in for her and I really can’t understand why. She's turning into such a lovely dog who seeks human company, although she is still a little scared of being approached. She sleeps on the bed with all the other resident and foster dogs and has settled well. She was a bit stroppy with a new foster dog when she first arrived, but is absolutely fine now. She jumps up and makes a fuss when I walk into a room although is still nervous of actually then being stroked. She is starting to gain confidence when you’re sat on the floor next to her though! If you go slowly, she will let you give her a little stroke which is just lovely! She loves her treats and is always at the front of the queue when I’m giving them out. She walks beautifully on a lead and will go out alone, although she does prefer being with her friends 😌

Rhinestone would need at least one kind resident dog in her new home, who preferably likes to play as she really does like her zoomies around the garden. She needs an adult only home with someone who will be around most of the time as she gets quite distressed even if you just leave her downstairs briefly with the other dogs. She stands at the grooming table and allows me to groom her and clip her. She would still need to be groomed at home initially, but in time as she gains confidence and in the right environment she may be able to go to a secure grooming parlour. She is still a flight risk at the moment so her adopters will need to put her safety first before anything! I'd love to see her in her forever home enjoying new adventures … she deserves to find her forever home more than anything 😩
