How great to be part of an international organisation.

A WHOLE NEW LOOK, FOR A WHOLE NEW ORGANISATION!

We are thrilled to announce another significant milestone in the 30-year COAPE journey.

COAPE’s graduate membership organisation - the CAPBT (COAPE Association of Pet Behaviourists and Trainers) - has officially been rebranded as the CABTi (COAPE Association of Behaviourists and Trainers International).

This transformation represents the CABTi's commitment to fostering and supporting our global community of COAPE Qualified professionals dedicated to the ethical and science-based practice of animal behaviour. Over the next few months, we will be doing a social campaign to update you about all the new and exciting changes that come with this rebranding, but for now, rest assured that if you are looking for a qualified, emotions-first educated behaviourist, the CABTi is the place to go! Visit the new page on our website (https://coape.org/cabti-home-page/) to read more about why choosing a CABTi member is the right choice when looking for help with your companion animal.

Heat-related illness - more commonly known as 'heat stroke' - is a potentially fatal disorder that can affect both man and animals. Understanding why it happens, and which dogs are most at risk, could help to prevent this deadly disorder.

Meet Tamzin and Bear! “Here is me with my reactive dog Bear. Bear is dog reactive however with the social distancing guidelines, a lot of dog owners keep walking towards us so needed something to keep Bear calm and safe. Since purchasing my tabard I have found that even people without dogs are giving us space whilst we are walking. This has provided us with a positive outlook and people even ask if he is people reactive which he isn't. It is also allowing other owners to learn about dog reactivity on our estate.”
Yellow Dog UK raises awareness for dogs who need space, dogs in training, or dogs with health issues, recovering from surgery, or those going through rehabilitation, dogs who have suffered a bad experience, nervous dogs, or older fragile dogs that find the world a scary place. We're supporting the BVA in highlighting the issues around flat-faced dog breeds. Breeds like pugs and bulldogs are bred to have flatter noses and bigger eyes. They are very popular but can suffer health issues. Find out more here https://bit.ly/2NHPxM9

This is the other beautiful dog that was collected by the rescue today.

Another New Hope (our sister rescue) dog desperately needing funds for an operation after being thrown from a van with William.

She is the sweetest girl and she desperately needs this chance.

Please share and donate directly to New Hope if you can ❤️

PLEASE SHARE SHARE SHARE. We need your help!
You may have seen the story of the poor emaciated Lurcher thrown from a van with another dog. This is the other dog, cruelly thrown from a van like a piece of rubbish.
Gladys has an injury, at least a few days old, from some sort of trauma to her back, obviously the reason she was dumped. After coming into our care we took her immediately to the vets and it transgresses that she has a broken spine.
We refuse to give up on her so she is moving from our vets to the a specialist vets in the morning as the surgery she needs is extremely complex. It’s the only way we can save her.
She has a foreign chip but no logged details.
The quote from the specialist vets is £6000-7000.
As always we are sorry to ask but we can’t do this without you lot.
If anyone can DONATE we would be very grateful, if you can’t donate please SHARE.
Gladys needs us 🙏🙏🙏

I met this poor boy at the rescue today, the other dog that was dumped is now in the vets due to injuries.

William is a New Hope dog (our sister rescue) staying with SEDR overnight before he goes to foster tomorrow.

This is the level of abuse we are seeing more and more and thanks to an amazing team, he has the best future ahead of him now ❤️

Poor little emaciated William was thrown out of a van (with another dog who I will post shortly, please keep an eye out as we need some serious help with the other one).
He is so skinny and covered in pressure sores but remains an honest sweet boy.
Another example of abhorrent treatment from his previous ‘care giver’
Lucky boy is off to one of our rescue colleagues in the morning for some extra special care.

*CALLING OWNERS OF DOGS WITH BEHAVIOUR PROBLEMS IN THE UK*

Have you sought advice, in the UK, for a behaviour problem with your dog in the last 2 years? If yes, an MSc student (Julie Daniels) at the University of Edinburgh needs your help with some important research.

We would like to invite you to participate in a short online survey of your experience of the behaviour consultation process, and of the factors that led you to follow (or not) the treatment plan afterwards.

Your involvement in this study would be very much appreciated as it will help us to understand, from the dog owner’s perspective, how to guide best practice. The study has ethical approval, and your participation would be voluntary, confidential and anonymous.

The more participants we can enrol, the more reliable the results will be, so please do SHARE THIS POST if you feel able to support us in this way.

The survey will close on 26th March 2021. Thank you very much in advance, your help is much appreciated. For more details and to take part in the survey, please use this link https://edinburgh.onlinesurveys.ac.uk/daniels-survey.

Yesterday we posted about acorns in Autumn but they are not the only hazard in Autumn. Conkers from the horse chestnut (Aesculus hippocastanum) can cause gastrointestinal signs. If swallowed whole or in a large chunks there is also a risk that the conkers may obstruct the gut.
