Marmalade We’re sure that you all remember the famous Marmalade, but just incase you don’t know his story, here it is. Marmalade is a feral cat who only has one eye and is almost blind in the other. It seems he was dumped in a busy town and this was incredibly dangerous for such a vulnerable cat. Fortunately, a Good Samaritan picked him up and took him to a vet’s surgery and his description and photo was shared far and wide but sadly, no one ever came forward to claim him. Being partially sighted, feral and rather bad for tempered, he wasn’t suitable for an ordinary home as a pet and all of the local charities were full and couldn’t help him. His future was looking very bleak until the vets contacted Willows explaining his plight and we agreed to take him in. Marmalade was rather cross when he arrived and we had to handle him with extreme caution! We fundraised to build him a Cateo and he has lived very happily in it since 2022. We give him lots of space and he now tolerates our company, which we are taking as a win! Other cats pop in and out of his Cateo to say hi to him and he has a few adopted nephews and nieces, Chuffy, Autumn, Berry and Raven! One of our newer residents who came into the sanctuary’s care earlier this year, called Charlie, lives very happily with Marmalade. Charlie is a very worried cat with lots of health issues and Marmalade has been a lovely stable influence for him. It almost seems Marmalade is helping us to help other cats that aren’t as strong as him, which is so amazing! His life is simple but he is very happy and he is surrounded by love from his Willows family, his sponsors and all of his huge online following! This cat who was once forgotten and alone is now living his best life and helping others every day. This year, we have been inundated with requests to help cats that have been turned away by other charities and the expense attached to their on going care is enormous. Charlie came to Willows as an emergency case. He had been taken in by a large national charity and while he was there, a volunteer tripped and fell on top of him and Charlie had bitten the person out of fear. The organisation completely overreacted and told the individual who had brought him to them that they were to remove him that night or they were having him put down! The Good Samaritan who had been looking out for Charlie by taking him there in the first place contacted us, extremely upset, and begged for help! Fortunately, we had room and we were able to take him into the safety of Willows. Charlie can be a tricky cat at times but in no way was he so dangerous that he needed to be put down! Meet Snowball! Snowball turned up in a small village and was causing lots of havoc attacking the pet cats that already lived there. He was losing weight, had no microchip and wasn’t neutered. It seems he didn’t belong to anyone so a Good Samaritan contacted us and asked if we could help him because they were terribly worried about his health. We agreed and since then he has been health checked, microchipped and neutered.
