Tomorrow is The Frome Independent market day and we will be open 10.30am to 2.30pm (our new Sunday opening hours) Pop in and say hi to Wendy!

Hello lovely customers! It's our anniversary today in ! We took over the shop in 2007, at Irongates, 17 years ago. For Not Just Pets as a company, we will be 20 in October as we began our journey in Bath in 2004. This is possibly our toughest year, except for the Covid year, which was when we moved to Market Place from Irongates, so we hope we can survive to our next anniversary. Please support your independent shops, we cannot do this without you! Thank you for your custom these past 17 years, it is very much appreciated.

Today is Johnson's Veterinary Products and we invite you to pop in and chat with us about all things pet.
We have free samples for you to try, too!

Bring in your pet pics and stories and we will create a storyboard in our window.

We have a colouring competition in store too - pick up a sheet for your little one. We will be giving a cuddly toy and art sticker prize to the winner and will display the colourings in the shop.

When Johnson’s Veterinary Products surveyed pet owners as part of its 2023 report into UK purchasing habits, it discovered that over half of respondents (57%) would speak to the vet in order to remedy a pet’s flea issue, despite the majority stating they find pet shops and stores to be ‘knowledgeable’ and with an opinion that could be trusted.

It is this startling fact that has led Johnson’s to announce the launch of the first ever National Pet Shop Day, as a way of celebrating the huge breadth of support, products, services and advice that high street retailers are able to provide direct to pet owners who have concerns about their animal’s health and wellbeing.

On Saturday 13th July 2024, Johnson’s will be encouraging pet shops and stores across the UK to throw open their doors and invite pet owners to come in and discover more about how they can offer viable, affordable options for dealing with commonly occurring minor ailments such as fleas, ticks, worms, or other general healthcare issues.

Paul Gwynn, Managing Director at Johnson’s Veterinary Products, explained: “Pet shops are the local health and wellbeing hubs of the pet world, but we find that many people are often so rooted to their longstanding routines, that they perhaps don’t even consider that they can also get experienced advice about a whole host of frequent minor pet healthcare issues whilst picking-up their other pet essentials in store.

“Pet shops and stores have a wealth of knowledge within their teams that has been built over many years, in some cases decades. They can often help to spot the signs of and give advice about fleas, ticks, worms and other minor healthcare problems and therefore are well placed to provide practical advice and product solutions for both these, and a range of other, more general, wellbeing concerns directly in store.

“With National Pet Shop Day, we want to mark the ongoing, positive contribution that these pet shops and stores make to society, and in doing so provide animal lovers with the confidence that they can handle their pet’s conditions effectively and efficiently, without always breaking the bank. These retailers are far more than simply a point of purchase – they are the bedrock of the pet owning community and are always ready and willing to help.”

It is a busy week at Not Just Pets Frome this week. As part of the Frome Festival Wendy dressed the window again - more lovely creative stuff from her. We will be adding to it soon for at the weekend. Watch this space for more news of what's going on on Saturday and don't forget to pick up a colouring sheet for your little one so they can enter the competition. We have 15 different ones to give out so your little one can choose which one to colour. Then enter their name, age and contact number on the back and return to the store by the end of next week. We will put them up on social media and choose a winner.

We are inviting all our lovely pet owners to help mark the UK’s first-ever National Pet Shop Day, by coming along and meeting Wendy and maybe trying out some different products. Learn about the range of health products and foods we offer, how we can advise on minor ailments and pet nutrition, learn about our delivery service, our tag engraving service and more. We shall also have a colouring competition in store for the little ones to win a cuddly toy prize and some art stickers.

Pets are our passion, and we are incredibly proud of our position on the high street, being able to share our knowledge, experience and advice on common minor pet healthcare issues. There are lots of pet owners that are perhaps not aware of the services or advice we can offer, especially when it comes to common minor ailments or the general wellbeing of their pets, and so often find themselves paying costly bills, when the problem could have been simply solved with over-the-counter products and little bit of advice and support.

National Pet Shop Day gives us a great chance to showcase what we’re all about. We’d love the opportunity to meet some new faces, both pets and their pet parents, so we would encourage anyone interested to come along from 10am to find out more.

From 10 June all owned cats in England (including indoor cats) must be microchipped. Read more info here.

In England from today all pet cats in England must be microchipped.

The new rules means that cats must be microchipped before they reach the age of 20 weeks, except for unowned cats like feral and community cats. Indoor-only cats must be microchipped as well. As part of the new rules, you must keep your contact details up to date on a Defra-approved microchipping database. This was something that Cats Protection campaigned for.
