I’ve had a fair few new followers recently so thought I’d do a little “about me”

I’ve had a life long passion of caring for animals and in particular dogs. At 12 years old after getting our first dog a Standard Schnauzer called Abbie, I was well and truly hooked and wanted to know everything about dogs, from training, nutrition and most of all, grooming… she was a bit mental and threw us into the deepend but I’ll always be greatful for her!

We started showing Abbie and my weekends were soon surrounded by dogs and the dog loving community. I have dabbled in agility, fly ball and obedience over the years but showing is my absolute passion.

In 2016 I moved to England, to ease the travel to dog shows and dog grooming competitions. I have won multiple awards at grooming competitions, most notably overall Best in Show at The Great British Grooming Show 2021 before taking a step back to focus on the business. We have also been lucky enough to win multiple accolades in showing my much loved Miniature Schnauzers including top honours at Crufts… but usually they can be found snoozing on the sofa or now getting muddy at daycare!

In 2020 just before Lockdown I started Canine Styling at Blossoms, a garden grooming salon based in the village of Asfordby and had such great success I quickly opened a larger salon “Blossoms” with retail space in Barrow upon Soar, I loved my little high street salon but the business quickly outgrew that and when the opportunity arose to take over a nearby Daycare and Grooming facility I jumped at the opertunity… And so Blossom’s Dog Club is born!

I’m pleased to say taking the risk (and stress of licencing!) was well worth it and I’m loving the larger space and better work/ life balance the new venture is providing.

Taking over a daycare in the depths of winter is not for the faint hearted but even when I’m covered in mud and rosey cheeked the dogs still make me laugh! I can’t believe I’m lucky enough to call this “work”

Outside of work I love nothing more than a dog walk, nice meal and a crisp glass of wine… it’s the little things 🐾

🐾🥂Looking Back on an Awesome Year! 🥂🐾

As 2024 comes to a close, we’re taking a moment to reflect on what has been an incredible. We’ve had the privilege of caring for so many amazing pups and meeting their wonderful humans. We don’t take having such awesome customers for granted and it means so much that you have continued supporting my small business 🫶

This year, we’ve had the big move to Gaddesby, expanded into daycare (which is muddier than I ever expected but I’m loving it!) had Grace join the team and pampered more pooches than ever. None of this would have been possible without your trust, loyalty, and support for which I’ll always be greatful for.

As we step into the New Year, we’re excited to continue offering the best in grooming and daycare services and make our mark on the business over the next few months.

Here’s to another year filled with playtime, pampering, and plenty of laughs… usually at my expense 🐕✨

🩶 Well Barrow, it’s been a blast 🩶

I can’t believe just 2.5 years ago we were racing towards the finish line trying to get the salon done before welcoming old and new faces 🥺

Since then the salon has grown from strength to strength and I feel incredibly lucky to have so many amazing customers who are following me along on my next adventure. I will of corse miss those who are unable to come but I’m sure they will be just as adored by their next groomer!

Barrow really is an incredible little village and I couldn’t have survived without the other businesses on the high street, from always being on hand when I’ve forgotten an occasion (and keeping my loyalty card on file because I also always forget that!) for an epic breakfast roll when it’s looking like a long day and for a quick chat and last min flowers (there’s a theme!) and last but not absolutly not least ! I’m not sure who will deliver my daily caffeine hit, who will laugh at me making stupid gestures through the window or chat about trying to be sucessful business owners (we’ve got this 💪) I’ll have to keep myself amused now… and probably buy a coffee machine!

Barrow has been the best home for my little salon but I’m so excited for the next chapter.

🏆 Winner Winner 🏆

I’ve had lots of career highlights over the years but getting to share Hestia’s amazing news is definitely up there!

At the recent Sussex Spaniel Association Championship Show Hestia pulled out all the stops winning her class…. The Challange Certificate (best female in show)… and finally Best In Show 🏆 … so basically she won it all!!

Last year I posted about Hestia’s first visit all the way from Yorkshire to get prepared for Crufts 💚 Since then she has visited another few times before shows and had some lovely results which we are all thrilled with… but this win tops it all 🤩

I honestly couldn’t be happier, I love getting stuck into lots of research with this beautiful breed and feel incredibly lucky to work with Hestia and her owners. Congratulations guys!!

💥Super. Duper. Exciting. News 💥

As most of you know my body has taken a bit of a bashing lately and I’ve been given the amazing opportunity to take over the premises of Gaddesby as of November 1st.

The facility (and Hannah) already have a wonderful reputation in the area for its doggy day care and grooming which I am looking forward to continuing and expanding with.

I understand that I am moving out of the gorgeous little village of Barrow and it isn’t a decision that I have taken lightly however by moving to K9 Country Club I am now able to offer additional services and have the space for an assistant in the future which can only impact my health in a positive way.

At this point all existing customers should have been contacted (🤞) with regards to the move. I look forward to welcoming old and new clients at the new salon and if you have any questions or would like to discuss your appointments please get in touch.

How gorgeous is this guy 🧡🤍

Due to my recent rib injury and the salon being booked up so far in advance I’m unable to accept new clients at the moment… but when my existing client homed the beautiful Ollie after his owner sadly passed away I was so excited to welcome him to the Blossom’s gang!

Ollie has been a show dog so is in wonderful condition and was an absolute joy to groom (➡️ to see him chilling on the table).
We maintained the breed characteristic beautiful soft silky coat and long feathers (including his little feet slippers!) and after his bath and tidy he was sashaying out the door.

🤢 Flea Season 🤢

Just like last year they seem to be becoming more of a problem up and down the country causing issues for you, your dog…. And my salon 🙈

These little, biting, jumping insects not only cause discomfort and possible allergic reactions for your dogs but can also infest carpets, bedding, and furniture (hence why the salon is currently bed free... Sorry)

If you suspect your dog has a flea problem please contact me before bringing them for their appointment as I often have other dogs (including my own) in the salon.

If I find fleas during the groom I reserve the rite to rearange to my next available appointment and this will incur a flea charge of £20 which will cover the disinfecting of the salon and possible diary distruptions.

The video attached was from last year when I found lots of fleas on a dog that the owner was unaware of. The whole day of dogs then had to be canceled so I could clean, disinfect and flea spray/ bomb the salon. This was not only an inconvenience but a massive loss to my earnings and unfortunatly happened more than once last year. Please bare this in mind.

Below are some effective flea treatment methods to help you tackle this issue:

Prevention is key to avoiding flea infestations. Regularly groom your dog with flea combs, maintain a clean living environment, and make sure they are up to date with flea treatment.
It’s important to not only treat your dog but also your home and any vehicle they travel in. Vacuuming frequently and washing pet bedding in hot water (above 60) can help eliminate flea eggs and larvae. If you find fleas you may need to use a flea fogger or spray. The key is to disrupt the 10 day cycle so you may need to do this for a few weeks.

One of the most common and effective ways to treat fleas on pets is with oral and topical treatments. These are usually given by tablet or applied to the back of the neck between the shoulder blades. They work by killing adult fleas and disrupting the flea life cycle. It is important to note that dogs should not be bathed for 48 hours after topical treatments are applied.

I’ve had the absolute best day with these legends!! 🙌✨

After sharing the news of my accident last week I have honestly been overwhelmed with the messeges from customers and offers of help 🧡

Today my grood friends Clare from and Liz who I show dogs with came to help out with a super busy day of pampering… mixed in with a healthy dose of bedlam 🙈

Massive thanks guys, literally couldn’t have done it without you and we had plenty of laughs along the way… thanks also to my wonderful customers who ignored the wreck of a salon and all the empty coffee cups from & ☕️🤣

Guys, I’ve Broken A Rib 🩻

Not only is this personally upsetting as I’ve taken my 36 years and no broken bones record very seriously but as a self employed person being told “no heavy lifting” for a few weeks is quite frankly a nightmare.

I’m working my way through the diary and cancelling the next few days appointments then will hopefully have help with lifting over the next few weeks. At this time appointments will more than likely last longer than usual and the salon may be a little busier than usual with appointments being moved around.

✨ RESTYLE ✨

Having a dog walk into my salon and having a “lightbulb moment” for how I would style them is possibly the best part of my job and what really keeps the old creative juices flowing.

When Nelson first visited his owner had a specific look in mind (and luckily our ideas matched) and over a few grooms I had a great time creating it.
This groom isn’t for the faint hearted, Nelson comes in very regularly and has regular grooms at home (as well as a few sneaky shorter areas to make maintence easier)

He is one of my 50% who LOVE to visit the salon, he pulls his way in, waggs his tail, bounces up at the gate and as soon as he’s through it he jumps on the table no matter how high it is… and will jump back up when he’s done even if another dog’s on it 😆

Hes such a character and I’m delighted to be his hairdresser 🧡

Yesterday I steped out of the comfort of the salon to share my knowledge with other groomers on my ❤️ breed.

Daizy was a super star and I couldn’t have asked for more from her, it was such a fantastic day and hopefully everyone left with some helpful hints and tips ✂️

Look. At. This. FACE 🥰

Rory visited the salon yesterday after a few puppy sessions with a lovely groomer who recommended me for hand stripping. When he walked in the door my finders were itching to get started and after 2 hours this bestest boy was transformed from burst cushion to a beautiful English Cocker Spaniel.

We still have some things to work on over the next few trims but he handled the process like a champ especially as he is so young.

Where is January going!?!
The endless of days of cheese, dog walks and Prosecco seem like a distant memory but it’s so lovely to be back in the salon.

Rosie, Margo, Mable and Marley all had first grooms after their puppy intros before Christmas and they were amazing!

Thanks as always for the amazing ongoing support, please remeber I am booked up around 5 weeks in advance so rebooking at least one appointment is a must and I can’t wait to see what 2024 brings 🫶
