Merry Christmas to all of our followers and supporters from all of us here at Scottish Dobermann Rescue!
Here’s a gorgeous picture of Cora after opening her presents, sporting her new handbag. Cora was adopted two months ago after being found as a stray (and causing quite a stir in finding emergency fosterers to keep her safe) thanks to all the volunteers involved and the wonderful fosterers she’s loving life and being spoiled rotten.

A CHRISTMAS MESSAGE FROM SCOTTISH DOBERMANN RESCUE TRUSTEES

Our office will be closed for the next two weeks but the admin staff will be checking Facebook messages and emails sent to [email protected]. You can still apply for dogs via the website Scottish Dobermann Rescue. However, we are unlikely to be able to do home checks and dog assessments until after the New Year.

We are ending the year on such a high, with Axel and Lola adopted and Gr**go and Sharon very happy in foster care. For the first time in a while, we can say there are currently no dogs in kennels.

There are so many people to thank. Those of you who have adopted or fostered this year. Our fabulous volunteers, many of whom have gone above and beyond yet again. Levernbank Kennels, whose staff and volunteers took such good care of Axel and Gr**go. Sharon from Dobercademy who has helped so much with (dog) Sharon. Lincs Dobermann Rescue, Ayrshire Drone Dog Rescue, Dobermann Rescue Ireland and UK. My apologies if I've missed anyone. And, of course, our supporters, whose unfailing generosity in these difficult times has kept us going.

With your help we will find wonderful new homes for Adobe, Alice and Trevor in 2025.

In the meantime we wish you and your fur babies a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

ADOPTION ANNOUNCEMENT

Fantastic news to end the year on - the lovely LOLA has been adopted and will be joining her new family on Christmas Eve.

Fortunately, we rarely get abandoned or neglected dogs. Most, like Lola, come from loving families who have made the difficult decision to rehome them because of a change in circumstances. This is why we take such care to assess dogs coming into our care, and to carry out detailed home checks on prospective adopters- so we can match each dog to its perfect home.

Lola is going to an experienced dobe dad who will know exactly how to deal with her little quirks and give her the exercise she needs. She will have big brother Wotan (also a dobe) to play with (hopefully the Christmas tree will survive) and possibly apply an occasional paw across the nose if she gets too bouncy. We wish them all many happy years together.

Now let's see if we can get similar happy endings for Adobe, Alice and Trevor. Their someone is out there - could it be you?

Meet Alice & Trevor 🐾
🌟 Two Dobermanns, Two Big Hearts Looking for Forever Homes! 🌟

We’re excited to introduce Alice and Trevor, two wonderful Dobermanns who are now in our care looking for loving homes where they can truly thrive. While they come from the same household, we’re rehoming them separately to give them each the best possible chance at happiness.

🐾 Alice – 4-Year-Old Black & Tan Female (Spayed)
Alice is an active girl full of love and ready to share her life with someone who understands this incredible breed.
💖 About Alice:
✔️ Well trained and knows commands – she’ll do anything for a treat!
✔️ Needs to be the only pet in the home.
✔️ Could live with children (subject to careful introductions).
✔️ High prey drive – no livestock or small animals.
✔️ Prefers a home with Dobermann experience.

Alice is loyal, clever, and fun – she’s ready to be someone’s adventure buddy for life! 🐕

🐾 Trevor – 2-Year-Old Brown & Tan Male (Entire)
Trevor is a lovely young boy who just needs a little patience to let his true personality shine.
💙 About Trevor:
✔️ Nervous at first, but once he trusts you, he’s your best friend.
✔️ OK around other animals and children.
✔️ Needs a home committed to ongoing training and building his confidence.
✔️ A sweet, sensitive boy with tons of potential in the right hands.

With love and time, Trevor will grow into the loyal companion every Dobermann owner dreams of. 🐾

🏡 Could Alice or Trevor be your perfect match?
Both dogs are ready to start their new lives with people who can give them the time, love, and understanding they deserve.

The Trustees would like to remind people that if we are contacted about relinquishing a dog to our care, a lot of work goes on behind the scenes before we even advertise the dog for adoption. We have to organise an assessment, a volunteer has to take up their own time to carry out the assessment, and the admin staff are usually busy contacting prospective fosterers to see if they might be interested. If an owner then decides to rehome a dog themselves, we are of course happy for the dog, but it does mean a lot of our time has been wasted. And our home checks are extremely thorough so we know that a dog has a good chance of moving to a suitable home. This can't always be guaranteed if an owner does the rehoming themselves. I'm sorry to say we have lost count of the dogs surrendered to us whose owner rehoming has just not worked out. So please, take time to consider all the options before you decide to relinquish a dog.

If you ever wonder if fostering a dobermann will make a difference, just look at Gr**go. In a few weeks he has filled out, his coat is smooth and glossy and he never leaves his foster mum's side. These are intelligent, devoted dogs who make the best companions. We've still got Adobe and Lola and we have 3 more coming very shortly. The best Christmas present they could have would be a new home where they can thrive. So if your family is thinking about a new pet this Christmas - adopt, and change a life ❤️

A Message from the SDR trustees

We shouldn’t have to say this, but as a small rescue dedicated to helping dogs in need, it’s important to remind everyone about our adoption donation policy. This donation is vital to covering the care, medical treatment, and rehoming costs for our future dogs.

If an adoption donation isn’t paid after a dog is rehomed, we will have no choice but to either reclaim the dog or take legal action to recover the funds. These situations take up valuable time, effort, and money—resources that could otherwise go toward rescuing more dogs in need.

We rely on your kind hearted donations, support and honesty to keep our mission going. Thank you for helping us give these dogs the second chances they deserve.

All donations are very much appreciated.

Gr**go's lovely foster mum says she can't bear to think of him in kennels over Christmas so she's asked if she can keep him til after the holidays. There was such whooping and cheering from the admin team I'm surprised you didn't all hear it! The kennels we use are lovely and the staff and volunteers do their best to make a fuss of the dogs - but nothing compares to snoring under your own Christmas tree after sneaking a few pigs in blankets. Just look at the smile on that face! We wish Gr**go and his foster mum a very, very Happy Christmas.

Great advice. Please don’t buy your pets rawhide. It’s appalling that it’s still sold as pet food.
