Signs your pet may be suffering with their a**l glands:
-Scooting on the ground (rubbing bottom on the ground)
-Nibbling or licking their bottom
-Nibbling or licking around the lower back and/or tail
- A bad/fishy smell
- Pain when defecating
- Suddenly sitting down in discomfort
- Looking around at their back end

Guinea Pig Goals!
Keeping guinea pigs and rabbits is a big commitment and many people don't realise how much space they need. One of our clients sent us pictures of their fantastic guinea pig house! These sociable creatures have space to hide, climb and explore, both inside and out. We love it and just had to share with you!

Did you know that, in England from 10 June 2024, it will be compulsory to have your cat microchipped from 20 weeks of age. Many kittens are microchipped at the same time as being spayed or neutered. It is recommended to have your cat microchipped before they go outside for the first time. If you would like advice about microchipping please do get in touch.

This handsome and super friendly chap came to see us last week for his monthly weight check. We will monitor him as he grows to make sure he gets the correct amount of flea and worm treatment. This is all included in his Pet Health Club🐾

Bayley and Tizzy are making the most of their Pet Health Club. They had vaccinations including kennel cough, 3 months flea and worm prevention, their claws were clipped and had money off a bag of food. Without the Pet Health Club the total would be £267, but with it there was nothing to pay on the day. Annual savings for dogs are around £305 per year!

We have a range of diagnostic equipment, including X-ray and Ultrasound. This photo shows one of our vets, Megan, carrying out an ultrasound scan of Willow's tummy. Willow is awake for this procedure and is very helpfully lifting her leg so that Megan can get a better view!

ROAD CLOSURE B3081 Shaftesbury to Gillingham Road.

There is a current road closure in place on a stretch of the B3081 between Ham Roundabout and Cole Street Lane due to end on 30th January. This is a 24 hour road closure.

Another road closure in the same area is also planned for 5th Feb - 16th Feb.

This will likely cause delays in and around Gillingham so please can we ask all our clients visiting our Practice during this period to allow additional travel time.

How to keep our pets happier in hotter weather! ☀️

Keeping Cool on Hot Days

It can be tough working at the vets in a heatwave. Harper is showing us how to make the most of a floor fan in the office 💗

It’s Hedgehog Awareness Week 30th April-6th May 🦔 Hedgehogs can fall into ponds, buckets and troughs. They are good swimmers, make sure there is a way for them to climb out. This quite large hedgehog was spotted by one of our team in the early hours of Saturday morning. The alarm was raised and after a few hours drying off and after a good meal, it was released back into the garden once darkness fell.
