Cats Protection Lifeline has launched in Scotland. They help people take their cats with them while they escape domestic abuse - a vital service as most shelters will not accept cats. You can help by donating, or by signing up to be a fosterer.

Lifeline (formerly Paws Protect) is Cats Protection's specialist cat fostering service for those fleeing domestic abuse. Our network of cat fosterers provides temporary, loving home for cats.

The Dogs Trust Freedom Project helps people take their dogs with them when they escape domestic abuse. You can help them by donating, or by signing up to dogs while their owners find a safe home.

As many refuges aren’t able to accept pets, we understand that you might feel unable to leave your home until you know your dog is somewhere safe too. We place your dog with a loving foster carer for an average of 6-9 months, so you can access a refuge or emergency housing, knowing your dog will b...

Remember that heatstroke can happen even in this horrible muggy weather too, and (if we're lucky) the weather's forecast to improve next week β˜€οΈ

Temperatures are set to rise in some parts of the UK this week, so here's what you need to know. πŸ‘‡

It is crucial to recognise heatstroke signs in dogs, as it can be life-threatening if not treated quickly. Dogs struggle to regulate body temperature, making them prone to overheating. Avoid exercising them in hot weather. β˜€οΈ Keep them cool, calm, and comfortable.

Skipping a walk won't harm your dog, but walking in the heat can. Please share this with fellow pet owners and visit our website for more tips and advice: https://bit.ly/4cEZz6t

Proof that Staffies are sometimes too brave for their own good! The very handsome Diablo had a swollen toe, and his x-rays revealed that he had managed to break the bone at the very tip of his 'pinky' toe. He had been sore to begin with, but by the time of his x-rays he was his usual bouncy self - which is how we think he might have injured himself in the first place!

The bone is too small to splint or fix easily, so we're going to give it time to heal while keeping the inflammation and swelling under control. Fingers crossed he heals up without any problems and he stays out of trouble!

We will have very limited access to our computer system this afternoon from 3pm due to system maintenence. Please continue to contact us as normal, but our apologies if we cannot help you right away! Normal service should resume by tomorrow morning.

Calling UK-resident parents or guardians of young children (aged 0-10 years) who are also dog and/or cat caregivers.

Rachel Lumbis, an RVN and one of our PhD students is looking for participants to take part in current study as part of her PhD in Veterinary Companion Animal Sciences. she is investigating the knowledge, perceptions and behaviour of pet and child caregivers towards diet choice. The project has been awarded ethical approval by the University of Glasgow, College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences Ethics Committee (reference 200230318).

One of the main aims of this study is to compare the diet choice and dietary decision-making of caregivers who have feeding responsibility for both young children (aged 0-10 years) and dogs/cats. Whatever your views, your thoughts and experiences are relevant and important for this research. Findings will inform the approaches needed to optimise human and animal health and to enhance nutrition-related communication and education in veterinary and human healthcare.

Study participants who complete an interview will receive a Β£15 Amazon voucher, which will be made available by the University of Glasgow’s College of Medical, Veterinary & Life Sciences.

Please click this link to the study and get in touch if you require any further information.

Has your dog ever received a blood transfusion? 🐢

Did you get your free blue transfusion cross match tag (as modelled here so beautifully by Soda)? πŸ‘€πŸ”΅

If not, you can now order one directly from us!

We recommend all dogs that have had lifesaving blood transfusions wear a cross match tag on their collar as this alerts any vet treating them in the future that they have previously received blood. This is important because a test known as a cross match must be performed if your dog ever needs blood again to ensure their safety ❀

Order your transfusion tag for your dog now and keep them safe! πŸ‘‰

If your dog isn't the right size or temperament to be able to donate to the Pet Blood Bank, then volunteering is another great way to help out!

Join our team of volunteers 🌟🩸

Do you want to spend the day getting showered in doggo cuddles and giving out endless treats (who doesn’t)? Then volunteering with us might be right up your street!

Our donation sessions are busy days, and an extra pair of hands makes a huge difference. You will help ensure our session is a great experience for all our donors and their owners. This involves helping us to set up for the session, meeting and greeting our lifesavers, and taking their photos for our page. The best part, though, is giving out plenty of hugs and treats to the donors and having a friendly chat with their owners.

We are particularly looking for new volunteers in the following locations:

πŸ“ Penkridge, EC Straiton Vets
πŸ“ Stourbridge, Stourbridge Vets4Pets
πŸ“ Biddulph, Blue House Vets
πŸ“ Cambridgeshire, Amical Veterinary Centre
πŸ“ Shrewsbury, Copthorne Vets
πŸ“ Perth, Faircity Vets
πŸ“ Dundee, Parkside Vets
πŸ“ Ayr, Dalblair Vets
πŸ“ Tunbridge Wells, Well House Vets
πŸ“ Bletchingley, NSDR

If you love dogs and want to make a real difference, join us! Your support will help save lives 🐾❀️

Have you had an argument about a pet health topic that you've never been able to settle?

Before covid, we used to post a pet advice blog every month. We fell out of the habit given everything that was going on, but we think it's time to dust off the keyboard and we'd love to hear your suggestions on what we should cover!

Do you have an unusual pet species that you would like to know more about, or some more in-depth information on your pet's health condition? Do you have a question that you think is too daft to ask, but you're curious anyway?

Comment below, or send us a direct message or email with suggestions!

Thrass is a very demanding wee guy, but he's super handsome so he's allowed! He spent the day with us today having his neutering surgery and he came through it all really well. We're hoping that he's resting up properly at home, but we wouldn't be surprised if he's already back to his usual tricks!

Did you know that we offer socialisation appointments for dogs and cats of all ages?

Lots of pets are stressed by a vet visit, and it gets worse when they only see us when they're unwell or we're giving them an injection. A free socialisation appointment with one of our nurses gives them a chance to come in and have some treats and a fuss without anything scary happening. For lots of pets, routine happy - or even just neutral - visits will make the visits when they're unwell a bit less stressful.

This works especially well for puppies and kittens, but we're happy to make a fuss of pets of all ages if it helps them feel more comfortable with us!

You can book a free appointment with the nurses, or feel free to pop by with your dog for a biscuit from our receptionists if you're passing by!

Update: he's back home! Thank you everyone for your exceptionally quick response!

We've had this handsome chap handed into us this afternoon - who was found lost on Great Western Road. His microchip details haven't been updated, so we are struggling to get in contact with his owners - who we are sure will be very worried! We'd appreciate if everyone could share this post for us please so we can get this boy home.
