Little Sonny's first groom with me today 💕
He was a total super star for his first visit 🌟

For anyone wondering how a groom with me usually goes here is a little break down of Sonny's groom today so you know what your little one can expect too💕
First I brush out the hair, this helps break up tugs and tangles before the bath and loosens any dirt or debris in the coat making it easier to get a good deep clean once we head to the bath, while I brush I also assess the coat and skin this helps me pick the right products for each dogs needs
Sonny has beautiful tight curls, lots of thick hair and no skin issues, curly hair strands will always have an open cuticle because of the curl and need a lot of hydration to keep the hair healthy, conditioner helps to smooth the cuticle of any damaged hair, rebalances the skin and helps tugs and tangles to release from the coat.
Because of this I choose dezynadog doodle doo shampoo and conditioner, this worked great to hydrate and relax his lovely curls and it makes his coat super soft and plush (bonus💖)
While in the bath he also got a blueberry facial treatment, teeth cleaning gel and fresh breath foam (the minty taste definitely surprised him 😂)
Then I blow dried him, I used a couple of techniques to completely dry and straighten the hair, I only use active drying methods (basically meaning I am there holding the hair dryer). I also use this time to check over the skin as I can see much clearer with the air parting the hair, and I also brush out the entire coat with leave in conditioner to make sure there are no tangles for the clippers or scissors to catch on so I get a flawless finish.
Then I clipped his nails, cleaned his ears, trimmed his paw pads and gave him a hygiene trim around his bum and bits
Now all the prep is done and I can start the haircut, Sonny got what I call "The Short but Fluffy" haircut, it's super cute but also easy to maintain which is a life saver in th
omg this was such a satisfying de-shed on the handsome Marley 🤩

I will be offering some enrichment activities during my grooming sessions to help dogs enjoy the experience and turn it into a real pamper session.❤️
Ideally this could help encourage nervous/aggressive dogs to relax and give them something other than the groom itself to focus on, building up good experiences and trust along the way. It could also help puppies who often get frustrated or bored during their first grooms, to learn that grooming can be enjoyable and is something they can look forward to.💙🐶💙
What I use to achieve this will depend on each dog's preference and I will keep a note on their file of their favorite toy/treat/activity for future appointments too ❤️

Did you know dogs have much thinner skin than ours? And they shed it slightly more frequently too, around every 20/21 days. bathing your dog every 3-4 weeks helps stay on top of this and keeps thier skin exfoliated and clean. Dogs who aren't bathed frequently enough can get a large build up of dead skins cells that can cause a lot of itching and allergy like symptoms. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ All dogs need brushed, even the short coated ones, all dogs produce sebum from their skin this little miracle elixir helps protect their skin and coat in many different ways and brushing your dog with the correct tool for its coat type will help distribute the sebum throughout the coat minimising oil and dry spots keep the whole dog in tip top condition. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Nervous and aggressive dogs should come to the groomers more frequently to build up good experiences and trust with the groomer, I offer enrichment grooming sessions for dogs who need it, where we will build up trust with the dog and everything in the salon, using the time to train the dog as well. This may not help every dog and some might also need a dog behaviourists if the behaviour isn't limited to the salon. Did you learn something new?
