It's official, flea and tick season is back

I got a horrible reminder when I woke up at 4am today with a tick on my neck 🤢

0/10 experience I do not recommend, keep your pets treated to avoid it

If you use a spot on treatment make sure you read the back and know how long to keep your pets skin dry for, check your specific brand to be safe and insure the product is effective.

I can remove ticks you find on your pets if you ask but most will die and fall off on Thier own if the pet is treated.

Just as a reminder of policy surrounding fleas at Penelope's:

Please do not bring dogs with fleas into or even near the salon, there is a hefty fee of £100 for this. The reason being all dogs in daycare and in the salon will need to be treated, the salon will need to close for treatment/fumigation for 24hrs and all appointments in that time will need to be cancelled resulting in a loss of income.

To all my Amazing Customers,

It is with a heavy heart that I must announce the closure of Shaunnie’s Pet Parlour. Due to an opportunity to move abroad, I will be closing the business on the 1st of July.

I want to express my deepest gratitude for your loyalty and trust in me. It has been an honor and a pleasure to groom your beloved pets, and I will truly miss each and every one of them. I am grateful for the relationships we have built and the memories we have created.

Please know that this decision was not an easy one. I have cherished the time I have spent running this business and have taken great pride in the care and attention given to each and every dog. However, this opportunity to move abroad is one that I cannot pass up, and I am excited for the new adventures that await me.

I want to thank you again for your support and patronage. It has been a joy to serve this community, and I will miss you all dearly.

As for new groomers I would recommend: Obviously, Penelope’s Pet Spa, Lauren and Amy are fantastic groomers, have met most of the dogs and the dogs are well acquainted with the salon setting. Glasgow Dog Grooming is run by Cheryl who has 10+ years of experience and helped train me in the very beginning of my career. Finally The Garden Grooming, a new business to the area who specialize in asian fusion, which is a style I take a lot of inspiration from in my day to today work.

Life is better with ✨ Dogs✨

I cant believe how much I have missed all the dogs since I've been off 😭

✨Mila✨

Mila is such sweet (but very nosey) girl 😂 and I can not wait to see her again 💕

She got a short but fluffy clip off from nose to toes, and honestly most dogs can't pull this off but Mila rocks it!

Even on a clipped muzzle I will still scissor in some shape, without it the groom feels incomplete and a little messy, plus nothing feels better than tidying up those last bits and watching a groom come together ✨

Mila loves her muddy walks so I started with dezynadog filthy hound shampoo for her first wash, then dezynadog light and bright shampoo to enhance her coat colour.

For conditioner I choose dezynadog doodle doo since I wanted to keep that lift in the coat to make clipping and styling a little easier, but I think I will change to dezynadog simply sleek on her ears and tail in future to get the straight blunt cut her mum likes 🥰

I sprayed a little dezynadog amazing Trix into her coat while fluff drying to protect and give a little extra life to the coat

She was clipped from nose to toes with a 4ac (13mm), I styled her legs face tail and ears to finish

I think mum would still like the muzzle a little shorter so next time I will go for a oval shape 💕

I'm back!

I had a great time visiting family in France but I am so ready to get back to work, I have missed all the dogs so much 🥺

I had a few missed calls so I will be returning those today and double checking my social media messages incase I missed anyone 💜

I cant wait to see you all again soon 🥰

I haven't done a bell head in forever! 🔔

It's what I was originally taught to do for doodles back when I was an assistant but I think more modern trends in doodle grooming is the round muzzle

If you enjoy the classic look with the longer beard just ask! I usually default to the round muzzle so if it's not what you are looking for please let me know 💕

Or if you are feeling more adventurous in your dog's style definitely let me know I would love to get creative and come up with something that will set them apart 🤩🤩

✨ Cleo ✨

Cleo was one of the first dogs to come to me when I first opened 6 Months ago 💕

She has gotten so confident and brave in that time, she is starting to enjoy the drier and doesn't tap dance when I trim her feet or legs anymore

I don't think I'll ever get a fully in focus shot of her because she gets too excited for treats at the end of her groom 😂

Dexter is always giving side eye 👀😂

I swear he loves us really... you know Deeeeeep deep down 😂

Nah he just looks grumpy but he loves giving kisses and cuddles throughout his groom 🥺 he really is so sweet 💕

He is a little nervous at the start of his grooms but he definitely chills out once he knows what's going on and he becomes a little champ 🏆 I mean just look at that fluff!

He is on an 8 week schedule and his mum is doing a fabulous job looking after his coat! Thank you for making the teddy bear legs possible Mel, they are one of my favourite things to do 🐻✨

White/Lighter coloured hair dies and sheds at a faster rate, is more prone to damage and breakage (and therefore more prone to matting) than darker/more pigmented hair

How gorgeous is Toka? 😍

My first husky groom in what feels like forever 💕

I absolutely love a good de-shed, watching that hair fly Is so satisfying not so big a fan of the clean up tho 😂

Fur takes on average 130 days to complete it's growth cycle this will vary from breed to breed and dog to dog.

(I will make a post for tomorrow about the phases of growth and how we see things like compaction happen in double coated dogs)

A dog with white undercoat will also shed at a faster rate than a dog with pigment in the undercoat (in most cases anyway)

In a perfect world I'd love to see every dog in for a bath every 3-4 weeks, to maintain good skin and coat health

but if you just hope to limit the amount of shedding hair you have to deal with at home, a regular de-shed between 8-12 weeks should work well for you 💕
