We currently are at full capacity. We are receiving messages,emails and phone calls daily from owners/trainers of greyhounds who are looking for spaces which at this time we just can’t cater for.
We have a lot of ongoing enquiries for our dogs however a lot of families may not be ready for a couple of months.
This is where potentially every member on this page can help.
1/ Share posts of the dogs looking for homes. Whether you’re in Shetland or Gretna you just never know who will see some of our beautiful dogs looking for homes.

2/ Are you in a position to short term foster a reserved dog ? This can get them ready and set up for a new life when their families are ready for them and it also can free up a kennel space to welcome another greyhound looking for a home into our care.

3/ Have you considered adopting a greyhound ?
If so get in touch for details or come along and meet them at our regular walks.

Any of the above can help so please consider helping in any way possible

Today we made the difficult decision to
permanently close Ancroft Hounds, effective 1st October 2024. A decision that’s been weighing on our minds for a while now.

Various changes in our personal circumstances, some planned and some unplanned, have made it increasingly difficult for us to provide a safe and secure place for our boarding hounds to feel like they are at their home from home. We are finding it difficult to provide the highest standard of care that we pride ourselves on and we simply will not compromise on our belief that when a hound is with us the hound must come first. This belief has been at the core of everything we’ve done for the past two years. As has honesty.

While this is a short term problem it has also given us the opportunity to analyse the business as a whole in the long term. It is becoming more challenging financially to balance fees, wages, and costs. While we love the hounds with all our hearts, Ancroft Hounds is a business. The workload required to meet these challenges would not be viable and we don’t want to pass on significant price rises to customers, who are also feeling the effects of the rising costs of living.

We know we will have disappointed a lot of our customers whose bookings we have had to cancel between October and Christmas, and we are truly sorry. We’ve done our best to help secure alternative accommodation for you all. We just couldn’t have anticipated the changes in our lives we’ve experienced over the past months, and the stresses we’ve been under.

Ancroft Hounds has been a brilliant endeavour and it’s something we are extremely proud of. We had no idea it would be so successful and we have learned so much.

Other Sighthound boarders have started offering services, which is brilliant to see. It is an amazing community that we have been part of and we wish them luck.

We are still assessing whether or not we will open a very limited daycare service for our regular daycare hounds but sadly this post marks the end of what’s been an unforgettable two years for us, and our boarding adventures must now come to an end. We have notified all our customers with bookings in 2024. If you have a 2024 booking and have not heard from us please reach out to us immediately.

Thank you to everyone, our customers, friends and family for supporting and encouraging our little business. We couldn’t have done it without you.

We must also single out Greycations without whom our business would not have gotten off the ground. Sharons advice and sold out diary got us going quicker than any advertising ever would have!

Lovely big cuddle bug Murphy is in boarding, and he’s an absolute superstar! It’s been ages since we’ve seen him but he’s remembered exactly where he is and how things work. A really happy chittery boy. :-)

We’ve enjoyed having Beryl and Archie through our doors recently. Both lovely hounds who have been enjoying the glimpses of summer we have been getting! We took Archie for a pint while his Mum was off seeing Foo Fighters. Look how proud he is being the star of the beer garden!!

Our last day with these two crackers today. Molly and Geordie have been with us for a long stay and they’ve been brilliant! Always lovely to get our cuddles from these two!

Molly Geordie and Bill the GT foster hound with us. Bill js learning a lot from the very laid back M and G! They are also enjoying playing in cardboard box forts as we pack up Ancroft Street ready for our move!

We’ve spent some time in the new flat this weekend, which comes with gardens! We think the hounds very much approve. Maevy in particular has been chasing sun beams for the last five hours!

Oscar and Joni. A love story. In amongst our daycare closing our boarding hounds have been in for a while and little Joni is completely besotted with big handsome Oscar. What a couple. Oscar has been so patient with Joni’s advances and he’s so gentle with her too. Cuteness overload!

We have a rare window of availability in May due to a cancelation. Dates are the 21st through to the 28th. If any of our existing customers are looking for a last minute get away we have space for one hound. Ping us a message on your chat. 🙂 Sadly we can’t offer the space to new customers as we don’t have space to meet and trial your hound in the diary.

We’ve been quiet on here for a while but we’ve been enjoying the love of your hounds as they have come and gone through our boarding and daycare. Just some of the lovely pack we’ve had through our doors over the last few weeks. :-)

Hello,

We recently announced the closure of our daycare service The Sighthound Social. This was a difficult decision but we made it in order to achieve a house move away from Ancroft Street, and on to a bigger space with gardens. We need to adjust our available indoor space for hound care which means a reduction in our licensed capacity. We simply can’t give our full attention to four hounds, and guarantee their safety while we prepare for a big move. The hounds have always come first and they must continue to do so.

The support and lovely messages we have received, especially from our regular pack, have really shown how our service is loved and appreciated. Thank you.

We don’t know what the future of our wee daycare service is yet but in the meantime our boarding service is running as normal.

We had to take some unexpected time off last week due to an unexpected and tragic family bereavement.

This weekend we met Charly, the lovely whippet. Uncle of Trevor the naughty whippet whom some of you may know from our posts.

These two. Molly and Geordie have been coming to us since Ancroft Hounds started and we love seeing their excited wee faces pulling up outside. Lovely pups who are enjoying a stay this weekend, and aren’t at all fussed about the stormy conditions outside, as long as cuddly conditions inside continue as normal!
