Mr Toffee 🐇 in to see nurse Murron for a post operation check after his castration.

It's very important to get wounds checked after operations to ensure that the wounds are healing.

This also gives us a chance to ensure that the wound isn't infected due to animal interference.

The quicker the signs are caught the easier is it for us to treat and for a speedy recovery ❤️

⚠️⚠️IMAGES OF OPEN WOUNDS AND WOUND BREAKDOWN⚠️⚠️

Thunder and Soul's case

Both dogs have been visiting our branches to treat their paws. Soul's paw is from a laceration he got when out for a walk with his owners Soul came in for a stitch up as the laceration was so deep. Due to the area there is a high chance of wound breakdown. His bandage kept slipping off and Soul loved to lick at his wound. Licking of the wound slows down wound healing and also causes infection. Soul was extremely lucky as there was no infection but this wound still started to open and breakdown. The nurses and vets worked together to treat Soul's open wound. Open wounds do heal but it can take weeks to months. With the help of manuka honey Soul's paw is fully healed and he is back to enjoying his walks.

Thunder was in at the end of October for a toe amputation because of a tumour. Due to the area of the wound and the lack of skin present this caused a lot of tension and the surrounding skin began to die off. Thunder isn't the biggest fan of the vets and he liked to chat and tell us off when we were touching his sore paw. Thunder was in multiple times a week with the vet and nurse for bandage changes and his owner was changing his bandage at home in-between. New tissue began to form so we switched to treating his wound as an open wound using manuka honey. Thunder is now running around enjoying his walks.

Soul's wound took 1 month and 6 days to heal.
Thunder's wound took 2 months and 9 days to heal.

Certain wounds can take a long time to heal and may be frustrating for both the owners and vets but with the patience of everyone involved they can heal well. Both cases are now fully signed off and both are very happy.

2nd picture is of Thunder.
