Pink to make the boys wink 😘

This is one of Steven's little customers Maya, he asked me to make her a wee snood and it had to be pink... 🩷
She's absolutely adorable and super sweet, so happy it turned out OK and fitted her well.
I also want to thank her mum too for sharing her photos with us, appreciate your wee note and tag.

Aww it's little Orla's 1st birthday. ✨️🎂🩷✨️🩷

Her Mum supplied lots of cocktail sausages to share amongst all her friends at Citypooch walks they were all very excited and enjoyed the sausages very much!
This is a cherished tradition from what I remember that her Mum has always done for all her previous dogs and we felt privileged to be part in celebrating today with the birthday girl. Happy 1st birthday Orla. 🩷

Slip leads. Choke chains. E-collars/shock collars. Compressed air sprays. Rattle cans. Figure of eight slip leads. Grot collars.

When someone tells you these tools don't hurt, or the dog 'doesn't really mind', or they are 'just communication' they are being less than honest with you. And they are being less than honest with you because the reality is (rightly) unpalatable to most caring dog owners.

These are all training tools which use (at best) unpleasant and (at worst) painful stimuli to change a dog's behaviour. All training tools which, in order to be effective, the dog 𝙢𝙪𝙨𝙩 find unpleasant, painful or scary. All training tools which some trainers will use on your dog as a matter of course without even attempting a milder alternative first.

When a choice is made to use one of these tools it's because the person making that choice...

1. Doesn't 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 that they cause discomfort, pain or the threat thereof; or
2. Doesn't 𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘦 that they cause discomfort, pain or the threat thereof

It's one thing to genuinely not know about something. We live, we learn and as we learn more we try to do better. But it's another thing entirely to know something and choose to ignore it because the truth is inconvenient.

I'd guesstimate that around 50% of trainers locally use these tools. They aren't the exception and it's not unusual. That's 50% of trainers who either genuinely don't know how these tools work (in which case they don't know enough to be practicing) or 50% of trainers who think threat and/or the infliction of physical discomfort/pain are reasonable things to do to a dog.

So if it matters to you how your dog is treated during training (and it should) do your homework. Don't assume. Ask questions. And educate yourself enough to understand the answers. Because only by asking questions can you ensure you end up with a trainer who matches your own values.

Keeping our wee active minds busy, with our snuffle mats and coping ok with all the noises coming from the high winds.

We have a power cut here at our house, I did ask if Steven put the 50p in the metre but he assures me it's the cause of the storm.
I'm glad we're all tucked up safe and have a roof over our head (well for now)!
How is everyone else doing? Is my Citypoochers coping ok? Please continue to stay safe. Nx

Everyone is aware of our red weather warning, thought I would post a wee note and some info I found online.

I plan on doing my walk early morning apparently the storm will hit between the hours 10am - 5pm. I'll be out early doors and only a short walk around the block for Angus & I.

Red weather alerts are rare, but they do mean conditions are dangerous and pose a threat to life so the advice here is to stay indoors.

If your dog needs a p*e and you have a garden, pop them on a lead and keep it as brief as possible. However, strong winds and thunder can be scary for your furry friend, so an alternative - and the solution if you don't have a garden - would be to use either a puppy pad or find a spot in the house that your dog can use.

Remember to engage with your pet if they are housebound for an extended period. Playing with them can help burn off excess energy. If your pet seems anxious due to the storm, consider playing calming music and creating a quiet, soothing space for them to relax.

Again I'm a big advocate for snuffle and lickimats, puzzle games ect or make your own with a box filled with paper, toilet roll tubes, toys and treats. These activities help keep wee active minds busy, during testing times.

Make a batch of doggy biscuits, I'm sure that would be a welcome treat too. Lots of good recipes online.

Please be really careful out there! Nx

Aww wee poorly Angus, been at the vet this morning, anti sickness jab, pain relief jab, paracetamol and gabapentin, blood works done and came back with mild pancreatitis.
Fingers crossed he feels better soon, otherwise it's a trip to Glasgow vet school for a couple of days stay for fluids and X-ray.

Keep him in your thoughts for our little brave boy. He did exceptionally well and didn't cause too much trouble for the Vet or the nurse. Can I just say from the lovely receptionist, the Vet Anita and nurse Anita, all at The Natural Vet are extremely caring and couldn't do enough for our little Angus.
We very much appreciate all the care he was given this morning. And he also didn't mind going back in for his blood results and meds, so I guess he wasn't too traumatised, especially by getting his temperature checked 😳🤒

🐾❄️ Icy Weather Alert for Pawrents! ❄️🐾

As temperatures drop and icy conditions set in this weekend in Glasgow, it’s important to keep your furry friends safe and warm. Here are a few tips to help protect your pets during this chilly weather

1. Paw Care: Ice, snow, and salt can irritate your pet’s paws. Consider using pet-safe paw balm or boots to protect their paws during walks. Afterward, wipe off their paws to remove any salt or ice.

2. Stay Warm: Make sure your pet has a cozy spot indoors. If your pet needs to go outside, keep walks short and watch for signs of discomfort like shivering or lifting paws.

3. Hydration: Even in winter, pets need access to fresh water. Keep their water bowls from freezing, and make sure they stay hydrated.

4. Never Leave Pets in the Car: Just like in summer, cold weather can be dangerous for pets left in the car. Always take them with you when you go inside.

5. Watch for Hazards: Ice patches can be slippery for pets. Keep an eye out for potential hazards like frozen ponds or ponds that could crack under pressure.

6. TAP YOUR CAR: Please make sure to tap your car bonnet too before starting engines to ensure no animals are hiding in there keeping warm.

Stay safe and warm, and remember, your vet is always here to help! 🐶🐱
