Kira and Torra are the loveliest girls! ๐Ÿ˜

They are mother (Kira) and daughter (Torra) who are a bonded pair and are at their happiest when together. ๐Ÿ’œ They are both very friendly with people, love going for their walks but also love snuggling up together for a snooze, they even get sad when one of them isnโ€™t there. ๐Ÿฅน

They are a fantastic pair but sadly sighthounds like these get overlooked and Kira and Torra haven't had much notice. They walk lovely on lead together, love their food and snacks, especially carrots! ๐Ÿ˜… ๐Ÿฅ•

Are you looking for a dog to care for and to give a loving forever home? We have amazing dogs in our care but sadly some are overlooked and don't get much attention. Here are some from our Lanarkshire Animal and Rehabilitation Centre. Sadly, between them, these dogs have spent 725 days in kennels.๐Ÿฅน

Lyca has been in our care for 210 days. She is a friendly girl who loves playing with her toys and snuggling in for a cuddle with the staff after playtime. She is very clever and knows basic commands.

Josiah has been in our care for 131 days. He is very friendly and loves playing fetch with his ball. Doesn't he just have the cutest smile?

Jackson has been in our care for 157 days. He is very friendly and loves his toys and he is simply adorable!

Sadly, Vinnie has been here the longest out of the 4 dogs at 227 days. He is still a baby boy at just 1 year old! He is very excitable and outgoing and enjoys being out and about on his walks and in the run for playtime. He has already managed to master most of his basic commands. ๐Ÿคฉ

If you are looking to adopt a dog, check out our website where you will find all of the amazing dogs above as well as all the other animals in our care - https://shorturl.at/inL7z

๐ŸฆŠ Today is National Fox Day! ๐ŸฆŠ

Did you know?! ๐Ÿง The type of fox found in Scotland is the European fox which is famed for its distinctive red fur, white chest, pointy ears and bushy tail.

Here at the society we rescue and rehabilitate foxes and in the past couple of years we have released over 120 foxes that have come into our care! We currently have 12 foxes at our National Wildlife Rescue Centre who are doing great and will be ready for release in Autumn over the next coming weeks! ๐Ÿงก ๐Ÿ’œ

Whilst large populations live in rural areas, many others are more at home in our towns and cities and we want to make sure these wild animals are safe and healthy. If you are concerned about a fox's welfare you can find plenty of information and advice on our website here - https://www.scottishspca.org/advice/fox ๐Ÿ™Œ

It'ssss Sssssssaturday! ๐Ÿ

Did you know we rescue exotics too?! We have some amazing Snakes in our care at the moment looking for their forever homes! ๐Ÿ’š ๐Ÿ’œ

When considering adopting a snake, do your research on your chosen species. How big will it get? What does it eat? What sort of environment will it need? We are more than happy to help with these questions if you are considering adopting a snake.

When purchasing a vivarium for your reptile make sure you take into account how large the animal is likely to grow. Some species of snake, such as pythons, can grow to be several feet in length so their home will need to be upgraded regularly as they grow. Clyde featured in this post is over 6 feet long!

Remember also to ensure your vivarium is secure and has locks on it, as many species of snakes are escape artists and can squeeze into the tiniest of gaps!

Here are a few from our Dumbarton Animal Rehoming and Rehabilitation Centre where our awesome team are caring for them! Be sure to take a look online where you can find all their profiles and information and also the application form which you can fill out if you are interested in adoption! ๐Ÿ‘‰ https://bit.ly/3zHaXkD

Clyde is a lovely, big boy who will need someone with experience with large snakes. He is friendly and is happy to be handled regularly even if it does take 3 of our team members to hold him up! https://shorturl.at/45d67

Hiss Hemsworth may be small now but Bull snakes can grow up to 6ft in length. So their new owner will need to be able to provide the correct space as Hiss grows up. https://shorturl.at/EnD2S

Rumple Snakeskin is a Reticulated Python who sadly has been with us for 125 days. Rumple would need plenty of space to stretch out and roam so a high and wide vivarium would be best to keep them in. https://shorturl.at/i5XFc

Dennis is a tangerine milk snake looking for his new home! He is named after Dennis the Menace due to his striking black and red markings. He certainly is a handsome chap! https://shorturl.at/IKGcK

Peaches is a striking inferno corn snake looking for her new forever home! Peaches would best suit an experienced owner who will give her the care and attention to allow her confidence around people to develop. https://shorturl.at/aPTbU

This week is Remember a Charity Week ๐Ÿ’œ

We hope that our supporters will continue the rescue beyond their lifetime by including a gift in their will to the Scottish SPCA. Over 50% of our work is only possible due to kind supporters remembering us with a gift in their Will.

Choosing to leave a gift in your Will to the Scottish SPCA will mean that your love for animals will live on and you will continue to make a massive difference in their lives. Whatever you decide to gift, your legacy will be one to be proud of. You will empower us to continue to investigate cruelty, improve animal welfare in Scotland and give thousands of companion, wild and farm animals a second chance.

Paw-ty time! ๐ŸŽ‰ ๐Ÿพ

We caught up with the adopters of these amazing puppies and had a puppy party at one of our centres for their first birthday! ๐Ÿฅน

A year ago, and only days old, they were cruelly left for dead after being dumped in a plastic box in Bathgate, West Lothian. Luckily a passer-by found them and took them to a local vets before they were released into our care.

It was touch and go for the seven sausage Labrador cross pups who needed round the clock feeding which included milk every two hours through the night.

But thanks to the care and commitment of our staff not only were they nursed back to health they are now thriving and loving life in their forever homes!

Such is the remarkable story of their survival, our staff wanted to reunite siblings, Whirlwind, Mylo, Mavis, Orla, Bueller, Matty and Sully to celebrate their first birthday together ๐Ÿ’œ

Well, these are a little special! ๐Ÿคฉ

We may have some of the rarest kittens currently in our care! These six young cats have been born with an extremely rare condition called Fever Coat which will see their coats go from fifty shades of grey to fifty shades darker over time.

Fever Coat occurs when a pregnant cat develops a fever due to infection, illness or stress, which affects the temperature-sensitive black pigment production in the developing kittens. The kittens are then born much lighter in colour at the tips of their fur giving them a distinctive frosted look.

Itโ€™s so rare the exact cause is not fully understood but it probably only occurs if the fever hits at a particular stage of the pregnancy. It doesnโ€™t harm the kittens at all and these six are happy healthy and looking for their forever homes with a loving family. ๐Ÿ˜ ๐Ÿ’œ

Sadly the six kittens came into the centre with their mother after they were found living in unsuitable living conditions.

POST UPDATE: These kittens are all booked and reserved for their loving homes! If you're looking to adopt a kitten / cat follow the link to see the beautiful cats we have in our care that are looking for their forever homes! https://shorturl.at/Zz8Z7

A HUGE thank you to the team from Coopers Doggie Delights ๐Ÿ™Œ

Based in Banff and run by Maria & her mum, Coopers Doggie Delights held a fun dog show competition at Buckie Classic Car Show in August. Over 80 entrants entered the dog show and our own Fundraising & Engagement Volunteer, Vicky Findlay, kindly supported by being one of the judges.

The show was a great success and helped raise a fantastic ยฃ380 in support of the SSPCA, thank you to everyone who helped support us on the day!

We were alerted about a Cygnet at Straiton Pond by a concerned member of the public who called in to advise there was fishing line coming from the birds beak.

On arrival our Animal Rescue Officer could see the line and a weight tangled around the Cygnet's body, on further examination she found a hook deeply embedded in his tongue which was causing him a great deal of distress. He was taken to Dick Vets where he was given sedation to safely remove the hook, he was also given pain relief and anti-inflammatory medication before we were able to release him back where he was reunited with his parents.

We are urging people to clean up after themselves when out in our country and be responsible when fishing around the waters of Scotland. This really could save an animalโ€™s life. ๐Ÿ’œ

Our feline friends are amongst the thousands of animals that we rehabilitate and rehome to loving families all year round. Here are a few of our amazing cats looking for their own place to call home -

This gorgeous girl is Petal, she is currently at our Highlands & Islands Centre in Inverness. She is very sweet and will happily come and ask for attention and particularly enjoys a head rub. - https://bit.ly/3MrGPwO

Micah & Bow were very nervous when they first came to us, particularly Micah, but are really starting to come out of their shell! Bow is a typical mischievous kitten, full of fun and big purrs, and his confidence has really helped Micah become more settled. - https://bit.ly/4ebLOxx

Tristan is a gorgeous lad in our Aberdeenshire Centre, he is always quick to pop out of his bed to say hello and let you hear his deep purr. ๐Ÿ˜ - https://bit.ly/3MrHsGG

Last but certainly not least, Domino is a handsome boy and was found as a stray.. outside Dominos, see what we did there! He's ready to settle into his new loving home. - https://bit.ly/3T9hzyT

Take a look at our website where you will find all our beautiful cats ready to be rehomed. - https://bit.ly/3XqKhOv

Oh Hugo! ๐Ÿ˜

Sadly this dreamy lad isn't getting much attention and has been with us for nearly 6 months. He's an older boy who wants to settle down and have a loving home to call his own. He's a very sweet boy and very handsome too! Hugo walks nicely on his lead and loves a run to burn some energy off! He LOVES a cuddle and a bum scratch and then gives you all the love back. ๐Ÿฅน

Hugo is currently at our Dumbarton Centre. Check out his profile on our website alongside lots of other gorgeous animals in our care looking for their forever homes. ๐Ÿ’œ ๐Ÿ‘‰ https://shorturl.at/UqonK
