🐾 Scottish SPCA and third sector facing challenging times 🐾

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Christine Grahame MSP and Murdo Fraser MSP for speaking up in Parliament about the harsh reality facing charities like the Scottish SPCA due to the recent Autumn Budget.

Charities are businesses—businesses that aim to be great employers while making an incredible impact. However, following on from the recent budget announcement of an increase in employers national insurance contributions, we now need to find an extra £400k every year is making an already challenging economic climate, enough tougher to operate in. There is currently no planned relief for charities, and what is worse is we have just five months to find the money.

Unlike commercial businesses, we can’t raise prices or pass costs to “customers”. Every £63,000 we spend daily on animal welfare comes from donor kindness, and we already rely on these donations, totalling £23 million a year to keep our doors open. Now, we will need to raise an extra £5 million in the next five years to pay to the chancellor, all current scenarios are increasing the possibility that we will have to cut back on delivery, despite the fact we are seeing soaring demand for our services and record numbers of animals in need.

The extra £400k that we need to raise is double the cost of feeding all the animals in our care for an entire year, as Christine Grahame rightly pointed out. The thing is, these changes don’t just impact us—they’ll be felt by 133,000 workers in Scotland’s third sector and the countless community charities these jobs support.

We're doing everything we can to innovate, partner, and grow sustainably, as we have for 185 years. But the pressure is immense.

Visit our website or donate today—every act of kindness helps us keep saving lives. Together, we can make a difference. 💚

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for an unforgettable Gala Ball as we celebrated our 185th anniversary!

The evening was filled with powerful storytelling and a shared vision for a brighter future for animals in Scotland. A massive shoutout to the incredible Des Clarke, whose brilliant hosting had us laughing all night long!

Thanks to the generosity of our wonderful supporters, we raised an incredible £52,000 on the night, an amazing amount that will make a world of difference for the animals in our care.

Here’s to many more years of protecting animals in Scotland and keeping people and pets together!

🙌 💜 A huge thank you to our supporters! 💜 🙌

When we needed high-quality, DSE-compliant operator chairs for our team, we reached out for help—and our community answered in a big way! Thanks to Azzurro Limited, a respected furniture supplier based in Airdrie, we received an incredible donation that will equip teams in our centres with comfortable and safe seating.

This generous donation was made possible through Advanced Procurement for Universities & Colleges (APUC), who approached their network on our behalf. Their dedication to supporting charities through sustainable, circular economy practices is truly inspiring!

To all who have supported us so we can focus our resources on frontline services: Thank you for helping make a difference! 🌍

🎉 A HUGE congratulations to Raven on finding her forever home! 🐾💜

Raven came into our care a few months ago and she needed treatment for an injury to her back paw. The kennel environment wasn’t ideal for her recovery, so our amazing rehoming and fostering team found her the perfect foster home where she could heal comfortably.

Fast forward three months, and Raven was a happy, confident girl again! 💪 Ready to meet her perfect match, she had a meet-and-greet with her potential adopters and their doggy family—and it was love at first sight! 🐕🐾

Like Raven, many of our animals don’t cope well within the animal rescue and rehoming centre environment. Some have come from situations where they may not have been well-socialised with people or other animals, and others may never have experienced the care and affection they deserve.

Could you foster and help Scotland's animals? Visit our website for more details - https://www.scottishspca.org/foster-an-animal

We’re so thrilled Raven is now thriving with her new family. Thank you to everyone who played a part in her journey! 💜

Over the past two years, the Scottish SPCA has investigated almost 150 cases related to the illegal puppy trade. This Christmas, we’ve launched a powerful new TV campaign to shine a light on this cruel industry and to help fund the rescue and care of puppies who desperately need us.

Our campaign is based on the real story of 24 puppies we rescued at Cairnryan ferry port earlier this year. These pups, hidden under a lorry without food or water, are just a glimpse into the horrors of the low-welfare puppy trade. One of these puppies, Piper, was discovered to have a life-threatening heart murmur. Thankfully, with immediate treatment, Piper—now named Skye—is thriving in her new home. 💜 🐾

Puppy smuggling remains a serious issue, with direct ties to organised crime and an estimated £13 million industry in Scotland alone. Puppies are bred in shocking conditions, often leading to severe health issues and, sadly, many don’t survive.

With the cost of care rising, we urgently need your support to continue rescuing and rehabilitating animals in crisis. If you’d like to be part of our mission, please consider donating this Christmas. Your help will truly make a difference.

You can support our work by donating at scottishspca.org or calling 0800 160 1758.

Thank you for helping us make Scotland a safer place for animals.

Freezing. Starving. Trafficked.

Responding to a tip off at Cairnryan Ferry Port, we found 24 puppies crammed into boxes under a lorry. Starving, frightened, riddled with mites and clinging onto life.

They had the worst start in life.

Your generous donations help us find 24 loving homes for them all.

But this is just one story. One day.

Please help us rescue, protect and find loving homes for all Scottish animals.

Well this beautiful girl sure knows 👅

Meet Luna, a beautiful soul with so much love to give, who’s ready for her forever home! 🐾✨ This special girl has been patiently waiting for someone to sweep her into the next chapter of her life. Luna is full of energy and looking for an active, experienced owner who can help her burn off both mental and physical energy.

She’s incredibly affectionate and loves nothing more than to curl up on your legs or lap for a good cuddle. Luna prefers playtime with her people over toys and enjoys exploring her surroundings solo, taking in all the smells. She is reactive to other dogs, so we’re looking for a home that understands her needs and can support her continued training.

If you’re ready to welcome this loyal, loving girl into your home, Luna will be here waiting to fill your life with joy. 💜 You can find her profile on our website - https://bit.ly/48K1JRU

✨ You are amazing ✨

Thank you so much to all of you who have shared and donated to our urgent appeal. Faced with the unprecedented situation of 216 dogs coming into our care in just 10 days, you - our amazing community - stepped up to help cover the cost of their rescue and ongoing care. Together, we’ve now raised a remarkable £202,890.

This makes such a difference to all of the rescued dogs and puppies, including Hank, Eddy and Hattie who were born in one of our rescue centres after their mum was rescued. Our team has been by their side every step of the way, ensuring they get the best possible start in life. We're happy to share that all three pups are thriving, happily playing, exploring, and tottering over to staff for plenty of cuddles.

Thank you again to everyone who helped ensure all the rescued puppies and dogs could get the expert care they needed. From veterinary treatment and nutritious meals to a warm, safe place to sleep and all the love and socialisation needed to get these pups ready for their forever home. We simply couldn't do it without you.

🐾 Help Us Reach Our Goal for Rescued Pups! 🐾

We’re close to making history with our urgent appeal to fund the care of over 200 rescued dogs, including many newborn pups! Thanks to our amazing supporters, we’ve raised 76% of our goal with only £65,000 to go to reach our goal!

In the biggest intake of dogs in our 185-year history, our team has been working around the clock, from nursing newborns like Hank, Eddy, and Hattie, to giving medical care to animals rescued from terrible conditions.

Every donation counts! For example, just £20 covers a dog’s daily care, and with each pup needing up to eight weeks of support, we’re calling on our generous community to help us reach the finish line.

✨ Text 'PUPPIES' followed by your donation amount to 70450 to give that amount (e.g., PUPPIES 10 for £10)

✨ Interested in adopting or fostering? Visit our website and search "fostering" to find out more!

Together, we can give these dogs a second chance! 🐶💜
