It was lovely last week, as our first week back, to meet new people and also welcome back old friends. Some of our members have been with us for many years and we appreciate their ongoing support. The new Puppy Course is a lovely mix of puppies and we look forward to watching them progress over the coming weeks. Our cover starts, Kobe, is actually one of the puppies who has just started with us.

Someone asked recently if their puppy would do "actual obedience" during the Puppy Training and course.
To answer the question, your puppy will be doing heelwork, sit, down, sit stay, down stay, wait, recall and finish to heel by the end of the course. Any more than that would be too much for a puppy to take in as that is actually quite a lot. Our main focus is on the fact the puppies are training in a safe environment with force free training methods.

We are delighted to announce the commencement of our next 12 week Puppy Training and Socialisation Course. This will be on starting wednesday 21st August at 6.30pm. This is a very popular course and extremely good value for money at £58 for the entire course. It does become fully booked quite quickly and we only gave 2 places left. If you would like a place on the please contact [email protected] or PM this page.

Very proud of our Instructors who took part in the first ever UK Purple Poppy event, held yesterday at Callander Park. We had planned on doing both obedience and Hoopers demonstrations but, as predicted, the "Have A Go" agility was so incredibly popular, that was all we had time for! Some children didn't have a dog with them and were delighted when we told them they could run one of ours. Well done Zara, Tweed and Nemo for showing how a child they've never met before can have fun with them!
Eden, meanwhile, had a very important job of raising awareness of the huge number of dogs killed during the war. She went round the park a few times, pulling her beautiful cart which drew a lot of attention and must have been photographed a thousand times. On the back of the cart was a poster explaining these dogs were used to pull carts during the war and this almost caused the extinction of the breed.
A fantastic family day out with an important and somewhat poignant reason behind it.

Could all members past or present please consider coming to help us with a display tomorrow.
It would only be for an hour then you could enjoy the dog show, demonstrations, displays, stalls etc for the rest of the day.
If you could help in any way, please contact Laura.

Just a reminder that classes are off tomorrow

Hi to all our lovely members.
Just a couple of announcements to make.
The hall let coordinator has advised that the cleaners on a Wednesday evening need access to the hall at 10pm. Based on this we will need to move all classes 10 minutes earlier to allow time for the advanced class to tidy up the mats and move tables and chairs back in place.
The new class start times are as follows.
Puppy Course 6.20pm
Novice 7.10pm
Intermediate 8pm
Advanced 8.50pm
Also there will be no classes on next Wednesday (29th May) (Tuesday is on as normal)
The new times will come into affect from Wednesday 5th June.
Thank you for your understanding.

Due to the fact a couple of dogs who come to the club have been diagnosed with Kennel Cough, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the club tonight. This is particularly important as tonight we have the puppy course and this age group is more vulnerable.
We apologize for any inconvenience and want to assure you that this decision has been made with your dog's safety in mind.
Please look out for symptoms including coughing, sneezing, runny nose, runny eyes and lethargy. An infected dog may show one or more of these.
As a club, we have always recommended fully vaccinating your dog, including for Kennel Cough, and this is something you could discuss with your vet.
Hopefully, everything will be back to normal next week.

Thank you to Kerry of the brilliant Rhodes2Safety for another great course this afternoon. Well done to all who attended. We hope you never need the knowledge you gained today. Here are some photos of Kerry and her Ridgeback Coda today. Some show Kerry demonstrating First Aid techniques and a couple are simply of Coda because he was so handsome and so well behaved!

So, do the dogs enjoy coming to Waggy Tails?
Well, when Laura let 15 week old puppy, Eve, off lead to have a supervised sniff about while Elsa planted the pots, this happened....
Think she thought all her friends were inside!

As a thank you to the church for allowing us to run a dog club in their premises, one thing we do is plant up two of the pots at the entrance to the hall. We do it a couple of times a year, using club funds, and think it really makes a difference. All we ask is that you don't let your dog "stop" at them on the way past!
Here is Instructor Laura's puppy, Eve, "helping" to put the plants in this afternoon.

Our ringcraft classes are not normal by any stretch. Just doing a little flat work to help with balance and coordination skills. As well as going over dogs we include different exercises every week to keep it different and interesting. Our obedience classes were outside tonight too and did some agility work with our members 😁
