Wee Rum presented out of hours last Saturday for a life threatening Gastric Dilatation Volvulus (twisted stomach).

He had to undergo emergency surgery and a subsequent blood transfusion (his pal at home was the hero and donated blood 🐶).

It’s been a rollercoaster journey, with round the clock intensive care for the past 7 days.

The team will be pleased to see he’s finally on the mend and has been sent home today! 😍

Get well soon Rum!

Wee Dixie knows the importance of good dental hygiene and behaved impeccably well for me to examine her teeth 🦷

No abnormalities detected, a nice straight forward case!!! 😁

We advise all horses and ponies have their teeth checked every 6-12 months.

Joel is here from Pioneer Vet Products, he’s in doing Lucy’s laser treatment.

Lucy has painful elbow Dysplasia and is on a lot of heavy duty pain medication.

Laser can help reduce pain and inflammation associated with various conditions.

Lucy is fairly relaxed and content at being lasered so long as she’s supplied with lots of doggy treats!

**Looking for pet volunteers for our laser demo**

We are looking to purchase a new laser to help treat patients with acute and chronic painful conditions.

We are doing the demo session tomorrow at 9AM.

If your pet suffers from a painful condition or is on long term pain medication, adding in laser treatment can be hugely beneficial.

Let me know if you’d like a FREE treatment!

Delighted to have a wee update from Bonnie’s owners to say she has settled into her new home!

Bonnie was our Scottish SPCA case that we were treating and looking after her until we found her a new home.

I’m absolutely made up to see her looking so much better! 😍

(If considering getting a pet, please consider looking around your local animal rescue/ re-homing centres, as there will be many pets looking for new homes!)

*****FOR ALL OUR EQUINE CLIENTS*****

All horses are at risk of flu, but especially those that are young, elderly and have Cushing’s disease (PPID), even if they don’t leave the yard.

Other horses travelling to and from the yard, even those that are vaccinated, can pass on the flu virus without showing any signs themselves.

Horses don’t need direct contact with another horse who has flu, as the virus can spread through the air at distances of up to 2km.
The flu virus is not only spread in the air but can also be transmitted on clothes, tack, yard equipment and in troughs and feed bowls. Therefore, horses can continue to be infected after the infected horse has gone.

A brief guide to vaccines:

- The flu vaccine stimulates a response from your horse’s immune system against the flu virus.

- So, if your horse is ever exposed to the flu virus in the future, their immune system is ready to protect them.

- However, their immunity will decrease over time, so make sure to complete the full vaccine course and keep up with boosters!

So, we are running a Stamping on Flu Together Campaign for unvaccinated horses, where you can get one free vaccine** as part of your horse’s primary vaccination course.

Get in touch to find out more and to book your appointment.

**Vaccine cost only, visit fees still apply. The offer is only open to horses that are over 9 months of age and have not yet been vaccinated against equine influenza or are overdue an annual booster. Vaccination to take place in the offer month.

1:30am emergency trauma call from the police, a deer involved in a road traffic accident.

He’s had emergency stabilisation, IV access, shock dose fluid resuscitation, pain relief, chest and abdomen ultrasound scans to check for life threatening injuries (that’s not immediately obvious) and a full physical exam.

We will transfer him to a specialist wildlife facility for on going treatment and planned return back into the wild once he’s been fully stabilised and it’s safe to transfer him.

(Big thank you to the two police officers who came back to the surgery with me to help out!)

Hoping he will survive! 🙏
