🚫🐴 HORSES CANCELLED 🐴🚫

📢 The Committee met on site last night and after surveying the ground conditions, took the very difficult decision to cancel all horse sections (including Clydesdales). The weather hasn’t been the kindest with its downpours.

💬 We hope all horse exhibitors understand and support the decision, who are all very much welcomed along to enjoy a day out still! 🎪

Any help to spread the word, would be greatly appreciated.

❤️Our show is famous for being nestled in the heart of the Stirling Carse and for being one of the most spirited little local shows with the very best atmosphere!

ℹ️ ALL OTHER LIVESTOCK & VINTAGE VEHICLE CLASSES (AND GENERAL ENTERTAINMENT WILL GO AHEAD AS NORMAL)

This photograph is from 2023’s pre-show evening (last year).

Come along and show your dog in the dog show, or enter some baking / arts!! 🐶🐕🥧🥧🎨
Message our page if you have any queries! ☺️

The Bill to ban live exports to slaughter from Great Britain has now received Royal Assent and passed into law! 🙌🎉

We can't begin to thank you enough for your support along this journey. Whether you made a vital donation for us to continue our campaigning, or took action to highlight to MPs and the Prime Minister the need for this ban to ensure our horses, ponies and donkeys are protected. Without your support we would not be celebrating this milestone!

This is the first step towards our goal to , now we need to make sure this ban is enforced and that all horses are traceable 👉 https://bit.ly/44SzCyi

Keep an eye out on our future updates around horse smuggling!

Very interesting read and so true!

5 Things Your Horse Will Always Remember!

Horses have an exceptional level of awareness meaning that they can understand situations much more deeply than other animals. They are so attentive that they can pick on other people's emotions through body language, voice, or just the general vibe you give off. This type of awareness can lead to much more intense experiences for horses. Here are some experiences your horse will remember forever!

1. Places

Horses have quasi photographic memory, meaning that they can remember places very clearly. It can be positive or negative, depending on the experience they had in a particular place. Imagine your horse witnessed a very traumatic event. Most likely he will never forget the place or event and move away from that area. If your horse seems hesitating to go somewhere, listen to him, comfort him and trust him, he knows what he's doing!

2. People

As horses have an almost photographic memory, it’s no surprise that they remember people by their faces. Show them the picture of someone they know and they will probably react. Horses can even recognize people after years of being apart! But their memory goes far beyond our general appearance. Horses can read our facial expressions and remember them for later, too.

As part of the study, horses were shown pictures of people with happy or sad expressions. After meeting these people in person (with neutral expressions), the horses reacted based on the original expression they had memorized in the photos. If you meet a horse for the first time, then you have to make a very good impression on him!

3. Emotions

Besides places and people, horses have an innate ability to recognize human emotions. Horses have a tendency to perceive body language, even the most subtle, which helps them determine a person's feelings. If we are feeling stressed, sad or angry, our physical appearance tends to reflect this. Same goes when we feel happy or excited! Horses don't just read emotions, they also remember a person based on the last emotion they felt from their last interaction. This is a useful strategy for horses to avoid any possible aggressive encounters.

4. The other horses

Humans aren't the only ones who can leave an indelible imprint on a horse! Horses can remember and recognise other horses from their social network. Whether it takes a few years or decades, one horse will never forget its relationship with another. This doesn't mean as much they will pair up with each other if they ever get together. One horse will only react to another if the bond they had was particularly strong. If he knows a horse from a previous encounter, he may treat it differently than others.

Other important bonds between horses, like the one that unites a mare and her foal, are known to last a lifetime. As horses also remember smells, this can help a mare recognize her baby, even years after separation.

5. The words

Horses are able to understand words much deeper than we thought, but not in the traditional sense we give words. They understand the words by tone, height and length of the voice. Words with fewer syllables tend to stick better to horses. They can tell when someone is insulting them and when someone is complimenting them. Don't underestimate their intelligence, because there's a good chance they're listening very attentively to every word you utter.

Horses are incredibly gifted animals, and should be treated as such! Having an idea of the memories horses hold with them forever will allow you to understand and communicate with them even more deeply. Whatever the experience, good or bad, you can be sure your horse has felt it fully. Do your best to give them a good memory, and they will surely do the same.

Can you help?

Sadly we have had an unprecedented amount of puppies coming into care over the last couple of months and are in urgent need of puppy food.

We have received some very generous donations from SavourLife that we are very grateful for but are down to our last 2 boxes of puppy food.

Sadly the demand for puppies coming into rescue is drastically outweighing our food supplies. We have more dogs and puppies in care than ever before.

Please message the page if you can help.
Together we can help these fur babies grow and find new homes.

It's so sad they deserve the best in old age as they served there life looking after there riders so in old age they deserve the same

“Know that old gelding of yours? You know, the trusty gelding who taught you to ride. We all have one in our pasture. He was the first horse you trusted with your kids. Everything this horse has done has had a purpose behind it.

Now his joints are starting to show arthritis from all the learning you two did together. He probably has slowed down and need a little extra food. Your family is ready for something with a little more speed and he doesn’t fit the bill. So you convince yourself you are letting him go so he can help teach another child. In your mind, you see him happily trotting down the road with a sweet little girl on his back.

In reality, that little girl will ride and love him for a few years. However, she outgrows him. He’s even slower and she’s ready to run. Her family is not bonded with your horse like you were. They sell him to the inexperienced family down the road.

This family knows nothing about horses. They don’t know how to feed an aged horse. He looses weight. Soon it’s so bad they keep him in the back pasture where no one can see him.
Finally, they take him to a sale.

No one at the sale wants a neglected, aged horse. So he goes through the ring and sells for $400 to a killbuyer. The killpen is where I find him. I know nothing about his history and nothing about his health. All I can see is the wisdom and pain in his eyes. I take him home.

As much as I love what I do, I would love to never see one of these poor old guys again. It breaks my heart to know that this is the story of so many animals out there.

So please, please keep your aged horses. If you can no longer afford them, lease them to a friend or put them down. No one deserves for their life to end this way.”

In recent weeks there have been an increase in reports to Police Scotland involving livestock being attacked and worried by dogs.
SPARC launched the Livestock Attack and Distress campaign with the slogan: ‘Your Dog – Your Responsibility’ on 11th January 2022 to educate dog owners about the new legislation.
The Dogs (Protection of Livestock) (Amendment) (Scotland) Act 2021 came into force on 5 Nov 2021, following a successful Members Bill brought by Emma Harper, MSP, supported by SPARC, NFU Scotland and livestock owners after continued attacks on farm animals by out-of-control dogs.
Under the new legislation, camelids such as llamas and alpacas, together with ostriches, game birds and farmed deer are now protected plus the inclusion of the word “attack” is welcomed as this clearly reflects the more serious aspect of such an incident. The new law also includes provision to fine the owners of dogs that attack livestock up to £40,000 or even send them to prison.
Dog owners are reminded not to allow their pet to approach animals or people uninvited) in open country, it may not be obvious when animals are around) and to always keep your dog in sight and under control – if in doubt use a lead.
