"Thank you for fixing our horse - he’s been flat and off for weeks…. Didn’t need the vet, the bute, box rest or supplements… clearly he needed a clip… "

As much as I clip designs into rumps and make horses look pretty for shows... The main reason behind most of the work I do? It's welfare!!!
Don't ever be told that you can't clip your horse because of it's breed/colour/time of year etc.

Not every horse needs clipped but there are loads of different reasons that they do need clipped! And just check out this happy boy feeling fab after his haircut!

Winter isn't just coming... It's well and truly here!
And December is a horrible month always full of cancellations, not ideal for someone who does this full time and has no other income.
There are a few people who have asked for dates then not responded when I've given them options so that means there are a couple of cheeky wee spaces available for those who do need me, these are firstly open to existing clients but anything remaining will be up for grabs for anybody who needs.

January diary will open next week, my MOT is due next month and I'll have dates on Monday for when the car is going for a pre check before I can deal with diary 😊

I've said it before and I'll say it again... Vivendi Equestrian has been a game changer for me, and I honestly couldn't go without them, they literally hold me together! My silly knee, my dodgy pelvis and sciatica, all massively supported with compression wear

Imagine no more aches and pains following a schooling session? No more “recovery time” between rides!?

That’s exactly what our Black & Silver C180 Compression Leggings can help with, offering compression throughout the leg during and after your ride to help speed up muscle recovery and reduce the dreaded DOM’s

Not only do they offer silicone grip on the knees for a little extra stability in the saddle but they also now come with a bigger pocket on the back of the waistband for your phone!

Our Black & Silver Presale is LIVE so if you’ve never tried them before, now’s most certainly the time while they’re at their special presale price!!!

Grab yours now right here… https://www.vivendiapparel.co.uk/products/black-silver-compression-leggings

Now that's what I call a save! Mr Rexicles had been having a scratch and got his tail into a right mess! All tamed again! I don't usually take much if anything from the front but as it was already rubbed and damaged the only way to make things look better was to go a little bit extra on it x

The time of year when lots of people start asking for Covercote blades to save some colour, but I'm afraid to tell you it's not always possible at this time of year!
This chap was clipped with a medium blade and just look at the unclipped coat side on.
The coat has changed most of the way up the hair shaft and is only still brown on the tips, so no blade would have saved the colour in this instance!

It has come to my attention that people are claiming I clip their ponies when they have clipped their own after cancelling on me.

I would never send a native to a national show with a hunter clip and I am disgusted to hear today that people are making these claims as it could potentially be damaging to my business.

Appreciation post for Iggy Suits London !!!

They are a specialist company who make jackets for Italian greyhounds, whippets, and other dogs of that type.
Yes my Susie is a Jack Russell type dog but there's clearly something else in there as her body shape isn't standard jrt, she has a very deep chest and tiny waist, she feels the cold easily and it can be difficult to find items to suit her tricky shape!
Not only did Iggy Suits get our own item to us extremely quickly, they also went to the extra effort of customising Susie's onesie to accomodating her missing leg ❤️
Very highly recommended 10/10

Dennis and I met probably 5 years ago and he was a bit of a cheeky chappy and had to get quite a bit of sedation, bit over the years we've managed to become friends, and he stands so well now that I end up running ahead of schedule so his mummy and I always have time to sit down for a natter and a cup of tea before I head off to my next clients ❤️

A comprehensive guide to clip types:

Here are some common, and some slightly different clip types as demonstrated by leopard Cody.

Bib: where only a strip of hair from the underside of the neck and chest is removed. For horses on light work.

Bib and belly: A strip under the neck and under the belly is removed. Horses in light work.

Apron: Underside of the neck and part of the shoulder clipped to the elbow. For horses in light work who sweat a little at the front end.

Low irish/ Irish: so much variation with this type of clip which runs diagonally from the flank to the wither or a point on the neck. For horses in medium work. A good choice for horses still turned out a lot, keeping the rear end on should the horse be caught out in poor weather so when they turn their rumps to the wind and rain they are protected.

Trace: a clip that takes off the underside of the horse from half way along the neck and sides all the way to the rump. This clip can also be altered in height to suit the individual. For horses in medium work. It is thought to have gotten the name from the lines following the traces of the harness in driving horses.

Chaser clip: a bit of a higher variation of the trace, leaving only the crest of the neck on, and often removing the whole head. Allegedly originated in the racing industry hence the name chaser.

Blanket. Horses in medium work, removing all the neck and just leaving hair across the back and quarters where an exercise blanket would cover.

Pointed blanket: my own little creation. It's a bit fancy but practical, keeping all the big muscles on the back warm but taking a bit more hair off the flank where some horses are likely to sweat. This is a clip for horses in medium to hard work and those who sweat easily on the front end and flank.

Endurance clip. This I learned from this community several years ago, the first time I was asked to do it felt very strange! But it's very practical! Hair removed from high sweat areas, saddle and girth area left on to protect against rubs after long hours in the saddle but hair kept along the rump covering those big muscles keeping some heat in as they can be out in all sorts of weather for quite some time.

Hunter clip. Where the body is fully clipped leaving the legs on and often a saddle patch. Origin from the hunting community who would spend long hours in the saddle and moving at high speed so very sweaty horses. Saddle patch sometimes left for protection from rubbing and legs left on for protection when going over a variation of terrain and natural fences. For horses in heavy work or those who are likely to overheat.
Often done without saddle patch for welfare cases such as Cushing's, sweet itch, EMS, and lice.

Full clip: everything off!

Most of these clips can be adapted to remove legs, leave heads on, half heads are heads right off!

It's important to learn what's what when communicating with your professional clipper.

I've met more than a few people who've told me they wanted bib and bellies and it turned out they wanted Irish clips and weren't happy that I quoted them so much more on the day simply because they didn't know the correct name.

Front leg lines!
Many ppl find them hard!
All I remember hearing was "follow the muscle line'". But the muscle is curved? So how does that work? If you followed the whole muscle you'd have a funny looking shape and a big portion of unclipped hair at the elbow right where they sweat the most!

Look at the part of the muscle that is running up towards the top of the front of the leg.
Imagine where that line would go if it stayed straight down by the elbow instead of curving back to the body.

Now take your clippers from that point below the below and follow in one swift stroke diagonally up to the top of the foreleg.

Clipping a little lower than the point of elbow means all those little creases of skin around there are hair free which is great as this is a high sweat area and skin can easily become irritated. Photo attached of what the leg should look like on the inside once you've clipped your line on the outside. I use a small clipper for the insides for safety as the teeth are closer together and much less likely to catch skin in this tricky and delicate area.

Blast from the past!

These were my sister's, I kept them and learned a lot!!!
These were from the days when pony magazines weren't all puzzles and celebrities, there was always a breed profile, tips for both beginners and advanced riders, famous horses, horses in history etc, they were epic!

Who else had these? Are there any specific bits u remember reading? I'll look through my collection and find them to give you a little childhood flashback 💕

Should I ride on the day of my clip?

Maybe 🤷

Depends how well you know your horse!

Safe to say, not riding this chap tonight after his haircut was a wise decision 🤣 well played Karen!
