We will shortly be releasing dates for our summer workshops, including our Total Recall masterclass. Sorry we’re behind schedule on releasing dates but we’re inundated at the moment. The video is our puppy “Star” now 7 months old who we adopted from 8 Below Husky Rescue at 8 weeks old. This is her recall in a fair sized offlead area with other dogs around her. She was trained using the techniques we teach in our classes and workshops.
We’ve been away for 4 days at the 8 Below Husky Rescue camp in Leeds. It’s been a mixture of teaching workshops, selling heavily discounted dog products on our stall, spending time with our amazing dogs and catching up with people we only see a few times a year. At the 8 Below camp in Bakewell last August, we met an amazing but reactive boy called Ash. His owners are totally dedicated to his rehabilitation, despite being told by trainers and behaviourists that he should be put to sleep and/or they refused to work with him. We did a little bit of work with him at Bakewell, and left the owners with loads of advice and tips. Despite being based a two hour drive from us, they also brought him down for another 1-2-1 session with us, despite the long distance. We saw him again this weekend at the 8 Below camp in Leeds and will be seeing him again next week as well as at the Bakewell event in August. Ash has come on so much!!! He took part in our Intro to Canine Hoopers workshop, and our Loose Lead Walking Workshop with other dogs around, as well as having a couple of play sessions in the offlead area with our puppy Star and one of our stooge dogs, Luna. Really looking forward to seeing his further progress, we just wish they lived closer so we could work with him every week. His owners are an absolute credit to Ash who had an awful start in life, but they’ve put in so much work and never given up on him. It’s dogs like Ash who made us want to do what we do!
Our current Introduction to Hoopers pups are doing incredibly well!! Today we worked on our waits, duration, adding a bit of distance and we introduced the tunnel!!! There's a few more weeks to go, then they get the chance to join our combined group of past graduates where we work on different techniques and courses. Our next Introduction course starts 17th March. #caninehoopers #canineenrichmentideas ##rebeldogtraining #funforeveryone #caninehoopersworld #sunnysundaymorning
Star’s big day out at 12 weeks old! Four weeks ago we adopted Star from 8 Below Husky Rescue at just 8 weeks old. Although we have socialised her in town, she was carried rather than walking where unvaccinated dogs could have walked so most of her training has been at home and in the garden. Lead and recall training on the training field first (and of course some playtime). Although she’s done well in the garden, we thought the field would be a different story, it really wasn’t! She then went to Woof & Ready where Gary bathed her and she had her nails trimmed, she was great with everything except the drier but that’s her first experience so she did pretty well. Then into town (she’s been been before but only being carried due to waiting until two weeks after her second vaccination). She walked confidently on the lead on the main High Street, got fussed in Boots and Fox Pet Stores, then off to the vet to pick up a prescription for one of our other dogs and weigh Star. She’s gone up another 1.4kgs in two weeks. Obviously she was fussed by everyone everywhere we went and loved the attention! Now a very tired puppy! We have places available on our puppy and adult beginner training courses from w/c 29th January.
We’re really active on many XL Bully pages giving free help and advice to owners of this breed and dogs who could be deemed to be “of type”. We are not solicitors but we have trained many of these dogs and have gone out of our way to stay up to date with the translation of the legislation, updates from DEFRA and the advice from Trevor Cooper (top dog lawyer) and his panel of experts. If you’re worried about where you stand with the ban on XL Bullys, what you need to do or whether your dog could be deemed to be “of the type of breed” then please feel free to message us, we will do our best to help you, or point you in the direction of someone who can. We are not charging for this service.
Some breeds are more difficult to teach recall to than others, Siberian Huskies are one of them. This is Freya, our newest husky, who we adopted from 8 Below Husky Rescue a few months ago at approximately 18 months old (she was originally a stray). She was out on the Mountain Miles field with three dogs she had never met before so we felt it was an ideal opportunity to reinforce her recall with distractions. Even if you don’t intend to let your dog offlead, except in a secure area, it’s so important to teach recall as leads, collars, harnesses etc can fail, there’s also human error and any number of other situations where a dog can become loose unintentionally. We teach multiple recall training techniques both 1-2-1 and in our puppy and adult/adolescent dog beginner training courses. We run these all year round, back to back with new courses starting as soon as the previous ones end. We are now taking bookings for our courses starting in December (we are fully booked until then).
Further to our previous post (we can only post one video at a time), Bailey the XL Bully with Khaleesi.
Our favourite XL bully client, Bailey, is totally awesome. In conjunction with the owner, we’re putting together a video of his amazing progress with his training (can’t wait for the Emergency stop video, he’s spot on) and how incredible he is with the other animals on his farm. Below is a video of him having his paws cleaned by a Shetland Pony and a separate post with a video of his first encounter with one of our stooge dogs, Khaleesi (he hasn’t had much exposure to dogs). Watch this space for a compilation of his amazing behaviour and how great he is around the other farm animals where he lives.
So Freya has been here two months now since we adopted her from 8 Below Husky Rescue. She is approx 18 months to 2 years old, found as a stray and then spent two months in kennels. When she first arrived, we did nothing with her training wise, just gave her time to decompress. Then, she was spayed and was on two weeks crate rest. We’ve only recently started training her and, as she will become a working sled dog soon, focussed on pulling first. This is her second thirty minute session working on walking “loose lead”. No, you don’t need to use head collars to train sled dog breeds not to pull, and no, it’s not impossible! ❤️
Due to the popularity of our Hoopers courses, we will be running another Hoopers taster class on 17th June. Please contact us as soon as possible if you wish to book on this as the last time we ran one it filled within 48 hours. Hoopers is a fun dog sport that's ideal for dogs and owners of all ages and fitness levels. Dogs navigate a course of hoops, barrels and tunnels with the same pace and excitement as agility. It's a sport all dogs can take part in, whether they're puppies or senior dogs, as there is no impact on their joints. Our eight week beginner course is just £120. The current courses are fully booked but we will be adding more shortly after the taster class. We currently run eight training classes per week spanning Puppy, Adolescent/Adult Beginner, IMDT Partnership Grade classes and Hoopers. We are now looking to increase this to ten classes per week. Facebook has cut our video short. Full version at www.Rebeldogtraining.co.uk Edit: Now fully booked. If you’re interested in taking part in our Hoopers classes then please message us as soon as possible as we run multiple classes and they are booking up quickly.
Just gauging interest at this point. We currently run a range of training classes Tuesday to Thursday evenings and Sundays. We’re now looking at adding an additional “Hoopers” class on Monday daytimes. Please message us if this is of interest. The class will be held outdoors on a private secure field.
