This afternoon Teams Basil, Griff, Magni and Olive completed a scent workshop with Nikki Thorpe at Malvern College Enterprises… they worked at search motivation and searching from the start, team confidence and independent searching …. Great work guys…

This morning Worcester Search & Scent Dogs Ltd held an Entry NNA Trial at Malvern College Enterprises with thanks to Nikki Thorpe for putting me through my paces and letting me judge and shadow.

We held the trial at the Pavillion and all details/reports are in the comments below.

Thank you to my TO Nikki Selby and the competitors today who braved the bitterly cold wind but enjoyed the warm room we had inside for tea, coffee, biscuits and general chatter…

Success No.2
Tonight with Worcester Search & Scent Dogs Ltd was a Level 1 Nosework Games Skills Assessment.. No Going Back.

Both Team Bo-Katan and Team Olive loved this and again both passed! Congratulations!

We completed the night with an interior search where the teams found 2 high hides and 2 low set hides … fantastic work both!

So tonight at our venue in Gloucester a 2:1 session with Team Bo-Katan and Team Olive and it was success after success with Worcester Search & Scent Dogs Ltd. 😀

Success No. 1
Team Bo- Katan needed to complete her NNA Entry ORT as they had recently won out of Pre-Entry and they did it with ease. Team Olive decided to just “give it a go!” and they also passed!

So proud of you both… well done! 👏👏👏

Despite my stiff and sore hand I couldn’t lose any more time off so CPD day in Bedfordshire at Beancroft with the NNA looking at Entry and Enganced level. Loved the day, lots of interaction, learning and discussion with fellow professionals. Brilliant day!

Week 4 of the last beginners scent course of 2024 and we concentrated on methodical linear searching to practice the ORT. Teams Flossi, Guus, Kiwi, and Nellie had been practicing and all had progressed so much so that Team Guus passed his ORT a week early!

I then set the teams an exercise to build confidence and to get to source with three hides to find and all teams smashed it..

To finish the night off, I set a small interior search concentrating on doorways, corners and a cluttered walk-in cupboard and again, all teams succeeded easily!

The afternoon teams were mainly new to an “indication” so we took it right back to the start and broke all components of the exercise down … using hunting trails and intensity starts. All teams Flossi, Magni, Rogue and Skylar smashed their indications and walking trail-layers and made the correct choices in their line ups..and well done Magni for showing the other teams how it’s done! Great work all!

I decided to put on a shorter version of my indication clinic after several requests from people who wanted a refresher and from some new people who wanted to learn… so the morning teams of Dylan,Jack, Kiwi and Lila loved the complexity of the venues mix of buildings and grassy areas and the indoor/outdoor corridor. All teams completed sone short trails to remember what to do or to learn a new skill and all teams were successful at that m. We then looked at walking trail-layers both forwards and backwards facing again all teams were great at this …The last part was “line-ups” and this is a different skill in scent discrimination and accurate trail-layer detection and indication… the exercise was broken down into parts and then executed into a trail. All teams were successful at this … brilliant 🤩

Another great scent detection night with Worcester Search & Scent Dogs Ltd, a 2:1 session with Clare & Dylan and Nicola and Zack…
We started with looking at Dylan’s scent ID as it’s been such a long time since he has done anything and it was solid! It was that good we tested him for his Foundation ORT and he passed!
We then did some selection training on the trial black boxes which both dogs smashed!
Nosework Games Skill Assessments were next and we started on “Level 1 - Go To Source” It was a fun session and both Teams were successful with their methodical searching and indication and passed! I was so busy teaching I forgot to take any pics…
The night was completed with a simple small search in another room at our venue!

Nosework games skills assessment night with Worcester Search & Scent Dogs Ltd and Puppy School with Harry's Hounds… the first one was “Go to Source” Level 1 and six teams Dash, Luna, Mabel Oakley, Spicy and Tilly worked really hard to call the correct hide amongst a group of items with only one false call allowed… all teams did so well and all achieved a pass for this game. Only another 7 to go! 😀😜

Week 3 of Scent Detection classes with Worcester Search & Scent Dogs Ltd and teams Flossi, Guus, Kiwi and Nellie have really nailed their scent ID and we worked on some linear equipment and a small search in the hall to test it.
We then completed a little interior search in a different part of the venue to combine their searching with scent ID and all teams smashed it …
We finished the night with some more linear work to start them thinking about systematic searching in preparation for their ORT and an indication exercise great work guys!
