Cushing’s disease is usually diagnosed in middle-aged to older dogs, so these signs are often mistakenly attributed to old age. 🐶
This condition is caused by long-term exposure to excessive amounts of glucocorticoids. Glucocorticoids are naturally produced in the body as part of our pets’ metabolism, and their production can be elevated due to a problem in the pituitary or the adrenal glands. They can also be administered as medication to treat certain conditions (like skin allergies), which is why close monitoring is recommended in these cases.
The good news is Cushing’s disease can often be treated, and disease management can improve not just your dog’s quality of life but also yours, as it can reduce the chances of house soiling or having to treat persistent skin infections.

Cats are secretive animals, and they are great at masking signs that they are unwell. But, while this would be considered an advantage in the wild, in our pets, it can be the opposite. ⚠️
There are a range of diseases that we can prevent through regular vet visits, vaccinations and parasite treatments, and plenty of other illnesses that we can treat or manage well if detected at an early stage, such as hyperthyroidism or chronic kidney disease. 🩺
If you postpone these visits because your cat is not a fan of coming in, talk to our team. We’re more than happy to work out with you how we can make everything more pleasant for everyone! 🥰
