Attention all snake owners! 🐍 Do you know whether your snake is male or female? Sexing a snake can be a little tricky, but let’s look at some ways that we can try and work it out.

The tail shape can be a clue - Males typically have a longer and thicker tail after their cloaca. This usually gradually tapers into a point, whereas females have a shorter, thinner tail that comes to a point without tapering.

You can try an examination also known as popping - this technique is where gentle pressure is applied near to a snake's cloaca. If a hemipene appears from the cloaca, the snake is a male.

One of the easiest and safest ways to s*x your snake is to let our vets take a look for you. This will cause both you and your snake less stress and hassle.

We’d love to see photos of your snakes in the comments below!

Bearded dragons are fantastic animals that make brilliant beginner pet reptiles. They are super inquisitive and interactive with their owners and are very tolerable of handling. These laid-back reptiles may not be as playful as a cat or dog, but they certainly enjoy socialising with humans.

These gentle reptiles are perfect if you are looking for a chilled and low-maintenance companion. Do you have a bearded dragon? Show us in the comments below! 📷 👇

From different nutritional requirements to predisposition to certain conditions, there are a lot of changes that come as our pets grow older. 🐾

As a loving carer, here are some things you can do to make sure your pets spend their golden years happy and healthy.

🐾 Factor in difficulties in mobility. Joint disease is common in senior pets, which can limit their ability to do simple things such as eating, using the litter tray and even reaching a comfortable place to rest. You can help by providing them with an elevated bowl for eating and drinking, taking shorter walks, and making sure their bed and litter tray are easily within their reach.

🐾 Keep preventative treatments up to date. This means vaccinations, parasite treatments, but check-up appointments become particularly important at this stage of life to catch issues early and give your pet the best quality of life for many years.

Did you know that January is Walk Your Dog Month? 🐾🐕

Exercise is a vital component of our dogs’ happy lives, and going for frequent walks is one of the best ways to ensure your furry friend has all the physical and mental stimulation they need!

Here are some top tips for the best walks of the season:

❄️ On very cold and windy days, consider keeping your walks shorter to avoid discomfort due to the temperature.

🔦 As the daylight hours are still reduced, ensure you and your dog have reflective material that allows you to be seen by passing cars.

What is your dog walking routine like? Let us know in the comments below 👇

If you've seen your dog dragging their bum across the carpet, this is most often an indicator of an itchy behind due to parasites or difficulties emptying their a**l glands. Talk to us, we're more than happy to help!

Welcome to Churchdown Veterinary Centre

Churchdown veterinary centre is the sister branch to Arvonia cheltenham veterinary centre. Arvonia was established in 1980 by Guy Mewha-Williams. Churchdown opened in January 2013 on Monday the 13th.

Churchdown vet centre is located in the former police station opposite Tesco’s on Cheltenham Road East. Here at the branch we host scheduled regular referral ophthalmology clinics that are run by RCVS Veterinary Ophthalmologist John Mould MRCVS.

We take pride in our service that we offer to our clients, Churchdown being the sister branch to Arvonia means that our family just keeps extending and we do feel like our clients are part of the family. We have a fantastic team of Nurses, support staff and receptionists at both of our practices and their dedicated service is one of the best.

We also support our troops by giving discount to members of the armed forces on a number of services.
