Willows turn at scent matching
Jaspers scent matching exercise
Dexters scent match exercise. He missed the last bucket the first time round but realised he had eliminated all the other buckets so went back to recheck and found his scent in the end. Great work Dexter
Oscar’s independent scent match
Recall
Kestrel responds better to a whistle recall than a recall word. Useful for when she’s so far away chasing birds!
Go to bed is a gold exercise but is useful to teach to all dogs including puppies. Just getting them to remain calmly and quietly in a safe position can be helpful when you have guests over, are cooking or there’s an exciting activity going on where they might trip people over. Build a solid duration first, then add distance, and then distraction. Making sure it’s gradual increases and when making one thing harder, make the rest easier to set them up for success. For example when adding in distraction, lower duration to 5 seconds even if they’ve been doing one minute without distraction. Then build it back up again slowly. The more repetitions you do where your dog succeeds the easier they will find it. Setting them up to fail can lead to frustration and repeating behaviours you don’t want, often having them inadvertently rewarded by the nature of the behaviour eg getting up and rewarding themselves with freedom running around rather than waiting to be released. Make sure training is positive and short with lots of successes and finish off with a high value game such as tug once the all done cue is given so that your pups drive to work is strengthened waiting for the mega fun that comes after they finish their ‘work’

Training
Mini training session with Raven - come front, close, side, middle, round, behind and switch 🐾
While Kestrel and Raven love each other, Kez loves nothing more than a ball and will resource guard towards other dogs when excitedly playing ball. We have lots of toys available to avoid this in general. But we also try to avoid both of them chasing the same toy, especially in the house where it’s confined. So here we are playing two seperate games of fetch at the same time, with a specific toy each, to make sure we have no fights and they can both enjoy the game safely
