Its poo sample time!
As part of the horses routine care, every couple of months, samples of their poo go to the lab for testing. These tests check for worm burdens in the droppings, which means we can develop targeted worming programmes for each horse. This helps keep the horses fit and healthy, and also helps reduce the risk of wormer resistance, which is an increasing problem within the equine population.

As September settles in, we have spaces to accept new clients this Autumn.
We have spaces for a variety of new clients, whether you've never ridden before, or you've been riding all your life, everyone is welcome.
We have mixed availability for children and adults lessons, both groups and privates.
After school and weekend group lessons are 30mins and £23 or £26 per person and no group is larger than 4 riders. All our staff are BHS or ABRS qualified and experienced instructors offering a variety of tuition styles to suit.

Little tots sessions - for children aged 3 - 6yrs approx.
An informal fun session, where children play games in the saddle. Designed for young riders to build confidence before progressing to standard lessons.
30mins £18 per rider.

Hear from one of our students Aneliese, about how she found the experience progressing through the education pathway after having ridden for most of her life...

"As someone who has spent much of my life around horses, I used to believe that I had all the knowledge I needed. I thought formal qualifications were unnecessary because I had years of hands-on experience. However, after taking a break from horses to focus on university and raising a family, I decided that before purchasing my next horse, I wanted to make sure my skills and knowledge were not just up to date, but aligned with the highest standards of equine welfare.

I initially began the BHS qualifications to refresh my skills. Although the first stage felt like a recap of the basics, I soon realised that it was still incredibly worthwhile. The courses offer a chance to update your knowledge and challenge outdated practices that we may have held on to for too long. The equestrian industry faces increasing challenges, and to maintain the social license to operate, it is essential that we all prioritise the welfare of the horses in our care.

I am now working towards my BHS Stage 3 qualification, and every new topic pushes me further, expanding my understanding and helping me become a better equestrian. No matter how much you think you already know, there is always more to learn, and this centre is the perfect place to do it.

I highly recommend Howden Centre for anyone in the equine community. This family-run business is by far the best in the area. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming, and the coach's expertise in equine care and management is exceptional. They stand out for prioritising the welfare of the horses in their care. The equines here aren't just used for lessons—they are treated as valued members of the teaching team, working alongside highly qualified coaches. CHILDRENS GROUP LESSONS -
We do our best to pair riders to appropriate groups as much as is possible, and do not swap riders every lesson, meaning it is generally the same riders attending each time. We firmly believe mixing riders each session ruins a lessons continuity and having the same riders each time makes a massive difference in children's progression in group lesson environments.
As September draws closer, we start looking at our after school riding lessons, and we have space for some new riders to join our evening group lessons.

Monday nights we have children's groups of 4 with availability. These are 30mins and £23 per rider. We have a variety of spaces, from complete beginner, to those who are riding loose confidently.
We also have some availability on other nights and weekends. We are closed however on Tuesdays and Wednesdays so no lessons run on these nights.

We also have availability for private training, and training for the ride, lunge and teach exams. All BHS education training is with one of our BHS Accredited professionals (APC) who are able to sign off skills records for all parts of the examination up to and including stage 3.

We are closed today, so all the horses are enjoying an extra day off in addition to their usual two days off every week. They spend their time off enjoying time in the field, grazing, sunbathing and socialising with the other horses, all of which is important for their mental and physical wellbeing. As you can see William is taking full advantage of his day off and has chosen to have breakfast in bed!

Everyone is getting ready for tomorrows summer show, and its looking like the sun might make an appearance too, fingers crossed!! Our Saturday staff have decided to practice for tomorrows mini show jumping ahead of time, although there seems to be some cheating!! See you all tomorrow. 😁

😍Domino update 😍 Domino has been very poorly over the last few weeks and became poorly again last week. However, the vet came to see him again today and has given him the go ahead to go back outside to the field and fingers crossed slowly start coming back into work.
