PYOMETRA AWARENESS

What is Pyometra?
Pyometra is a serious infection of the womb, commonly seen in unneutered female. It is mostly seen in older dogs however it can happen to an entire female of any age.

How Do You Treat Pyometra?
Treatments for Pyometra include, emergency surgery to remove the womb, fluids and antibiotics. The sooner a dog with pyometra is treated the more chance they have of survival and recovery.

What are The Symptoms?
You will usually notice symptoms of pyometra around 4-6 weeks after a season. These include:
- Excessive drinking
- Vomiting
- Pus/Discharge from the vulva/vagina
- Bloating
- Lack of interest in food
- Excessive urination
- weakness, panting
- collapse

A pyometra is an emergency! You should contact your vet as soon as you notice any symptoms

**update owner found** We have had an elderly black cat brought in to us today, he is neutered but not microchipped. He was found on Sunday 9th April in a garden on Wheatsheaf Lane, Long Bennington. If you think he may belong to you, please call us on 01476 563371.
