5 years ago today we went to collect our temporary foster dog 😁 obviously she never left! She has given us so much love, laughter, grey hairs and broken hearts in equal measure over that time. Now aged 10, she's battling with horrible Lafora disease. Shes unsteady on her feet and has very poor vision, along with seizures, though the medication is helping with that. She's had a lot to deal with as she never had the best start in life. But typical Willow, she just loves life and makes us laugh every day, with her funny ways and vile habits. We love you baby girl, so blessed you came our way 🩷🐾🩷

Many thanks also for your kind words and wishes for Hank & Willow during a stressful couple of weeks of illness and injury. They are both recovering well and their stockings are now hanging up ready as they wait for the arrival of Santa Paws. 🎅

Poor Willow is having some side effects from her medication which is affecting her balance and she is struggling to enjoy her walks as she is tiring so quickly. The meds have been reduced and we hope that this is just temporary as she adjusts to the medication, this will be monitored. We can't thank the charity where we adopted her from enough as they have kindly lent us the use of a dog buggy so that we can still take her out. This will enable her to get out in the fresh air, meet her doggy pals and their humans and have a little run around and a sniff for as long as she wants before she gets too tired. She has taken to it so well, she was even sleeping in it in the garden yesterday. Basset Rescue Network of Great Britain we truly appreciate your kindness and your ongoing support for Willow, even though we adopted her 4 years ago. ❤️🐾 #nobassetgetsforgotten

Our Story

R V Hounds came about when our rescue bassethound Boris was referred for hydrotherapy sessions following his diagnosis of hip dysplasia. At the time I was a voluntary dog-walker for the RSPCA but it quickly became apparent that I would need extra funding to help pay for Boris’ treatment as the insurance alone would not cover the cost.

So I decided to offer a dog-walking service to other pet owners, who like ourselves, often found it difficult to find someone to care for our dogs if we were on holiday or wanted to go out for the day.

I quickly established a small regular client base, most people work during the week and wanted their dog exercised while they were out, so I collect their dog from their home, take them for their walk and then return them after. Other clients just want cover for holidays and return each year. Some time after, I was able to purchase a van that I was able to equip with crates and a cooling fan.

Both Boris and our other bassethound Henrie have since passed away, but I love dog-walking and so will continue my business in both their memories as long as people want me to care for their pets. Hank is the latest bassethound member of our household and will sometimes accompany me.
