I'm sure that many of you who have lost a pet will relate. We often keep mementos after their passing, be it a collar, a lead or a favourite toy. For the past 7 years I have kept the coat belonging to our dear Boris. Not sure why as I have his fur in my bracelet, but none the less I didn't want to let it go at the time. I decided recently however that it would be nice to rehome it along with other donations I've received for fundraising for the charity we support.
This morning my neighbour asked if any of the coats I was selling would be suitable for her dog. I was delighted that she chose the one belonging to Boris. It brought a tear to my eye and now if I see the lovely Albus wearing it, it will be a sweet reminder of our old boy. 🩵💙

Unfortunately I have come to the end of the road with my van 😔. A serious electrical fault that we couldn't get to the bottom of meant it was no longer financially viable to keep it going and it was becoming more and more unreliable. I am continuing with walks using our family car until I can find something else suitable but please bear with me in the meantime as it may take a little longer to get round due to not having the same amount of space available.

Did you know R V Hounds is also available for pet sitting in the comfort of your own home on evenings and weekends for 30 minute visits upwards.
These two regular daytime clients were pleasantly surprised to see me this evening while their family were out. Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you would like a visit for your pet to feed them, give toilet breaks or simply to keep them company when you are out.

Jordan has been busy in vet placement this week. She is gaining so much vital knowledge and confidence during these experiences. Performed a cat castration on her own, working out and making up the doses herself, then carrying out the sedation, induction and the surgery, plus the post op notes.

Then today, removed these two grass seeds from inside a dogs ear. This time of year is a nightmare as these nasties can get in anywhere and cause lots of problems.

Whilst we are enduring this lovely weather, I am taking extra steps to ensure your dogs safety in the heat. Please note that if there is anyone home to look after your dog, then it is always best to do so, however I do realise that some dogs are home alone and priority will always be given to those. I do have a couple of cooling bandanas myself but if anyone has something similar for their dogs, please leave in a bowl of cold water or if its a frozen one, let me know so I can fetch it when I collect your dog. I would highly recommend getting your dog one as they do help keep them cool and more comfortable in the heat. 🌞😎

Poor Willow is having some side effects from her medication which is affecting her balance and she is struggling to enjoy her walks as she is tiring so quickly. The meds have been reduced and we hope that this is just temporary as she adjusts to the medication, this will be monitored. We can't thank the charity where we adopted her from enough as they have kindly lent us the use of a dog buggy so that we can still take her out. This will enable her to get out in the fresh air, meet her doggy pals and their humans and have a little run around and a sniff for as long as she wants before she gets too tired. She has taken to it so well, she was even sleeping in it in the garden yesterday. Basset Rescue Network of Great Britain we truly appreciate your kindness and your ongoing support for Willow, even though we adopted her 4 years ago. ❤️🐾 #nobassetgetsforgotten

I would just like to say a big thank you to all my wonderful clients for their understanding and kind words this week. 🩷🩵 Our poor Willow suffered 3 seizures in the space of 12 hours which was really scary and upsetting. She appears to be fine now but of course we are so worried about her as you never know when another will occur. We are currently awaiting test results for Lafora disease. She had her first seizure last August, followed by one in December, then another in February before this latest episode. She's eating normally and enjoying her walks with her besties plus enjoying a little toy time, so we hope and pray that this time was an isolated incident. Thank you and apologies again to those whose dogs I was unable to walk this week. 🤞🤞😥🐾

I think I may have finally found the solution to drying my dogs off better on rainy days like today ☔ This is thanks to hubby's obsession with diy tools. 😄 Mud Daddy to wash off dirty paws and bellys ✅ Absorbent noodle mats in crates to soak up most of the wet ✅ Cordless cool air blower to blow off that last bit of damp dog ✅ 🙂🐾 (cos towels just don't do it properly!) As demonstrated by my willing assistants 🥰

When the bed is made, but it's not to Sirs liking! 😳

Finally some light at the end of the dark winter, nearly 5pm before dark and a venture out to have a little swing in the garden as it was so nice this afternoon. 🙂🐾

Our Story

R V Hounds came about when our rescue bassethound Boris was referred for hydrotherapy sessions following his diagnosis of hip dysplasia. At the time I was a voluntary dog-walker for the RSPCA but it quickly became apparent that I would need extra funding to help pay for Boris’ treatment as the insurance alone would not cover the cost.

So I decided to offer a dog-walking service to other pet owners, who like ourselves, often found it difficult to find someone to care for our dogs if we were on holiday or wanted to go out for the day.

I quickly established a small regular client base, most people work during the week and wanted their dog exercised while they were out, so I collect their dog from their home, take them for their walk and then return them after. Other clients just want cover for holidays and return each year. Some time after, I was able to purchase a van that I was able to equip with crates and a cooling fan.

Both Boris and our other bassethound Henrie have since passed away, but I love dog-walking and so will continue my business in both their memories as long as people want me to care for their pets. Hank is the latest bassethound member of our household and will sometimes accompany me.
