We are looking for a loving family to rehome these 2 cuties, Skye and Dougie, 3 and 5 years old. They belong to a friend’s niece and this is her/their story…

Following our daughter being born earlier on this year we have made the difficult decision that looking for new homes for two of our four spaniels are in their best interests as unfortunately we are no longer able to provide them with the attention they deserve. They really are lovely dogs but since welcoming our daughter we have come to the realisation that providing them with the life we want to give them and believe they need just isn’t feasible and it’s unfair on them to not have anything less. Both myself and my partner both had two spaniels each prior to getting together and they have all integrated amazingly well but my two were previously used to a lot more attention than they are getting now and I feel they are showing signs of stress and attention seeking as a result.

Here’s a bit more about our two spaniels;

Dougie is a 5 year old Golden Show Type Cocker Spaniel, he has been neutered and is an incredibly loving and affection dog who loves nothing more than a good cuddle on the sofa but equally will happily find a quiet place in the home to take himself and relax on his own, since our daughter was born we have seen him do this a lot more and will often take himself out to the hallway away from us if she is unsettled. He has previously lived with cats but over the past couple of years he seems to be quiet reactive in terms of barking and gets excitable when cats are in the garden or when seen out on walks however he hasn’t displayed any signs of aggression towards them he has similar reactions to birds as well. Unfortunately we’ve struggled to achieve a good enough recall with Dougie and he therefore is currently an on lead dog, he walks well on a slip lead when needed but is also happy on a long line. We have access to enclosed fields near us as well so we do often take him there. With a lot of time and commitment he may be able to get to a point where he can be let off but unfortunately this isn’t something we’ve achieved yet. Unfortunately we also identified after working with our vet that Dougie is allergic to chicken however since moving him onto a raw food diet and keeping him well away from chicken his health has improved considerably our only concern we have with Dougie now is that he does suffer from sore paws at times as he has a tendency to over lick them however, the vet suggested that it could be just to a slight allergy to grass however in the spring/summer we have found given him a piriton does help. In addition keeping him clipped at the groomers every couple of months also helps keep this at bay.

Skye is a 3 year old Blue Roan KC Registered Show Type Cocker Spaniel and was spayed earlier this year. Skye is again a very loving and affectionate dog, she is brilliant out on walks and has good recall she is at the point now where she has started to heel off a lead. The main points to mention with Skye is that she is reactive to noises and as a result will bark, we find that she will also bark and whine for attention this is something that has become increasingly worse over the past couple of months since our daughter has arrived. She is a smart cookie but unfortunately the attention she is craving despite working tirelessly to correct via positive reinforcement and crate training just doesn’t seem to be working.

Both have never shown signs of aggression and overall they are lovely dogs but unfortunately for myself I am finding it difficult to provide them with the attention and time they need and walking four dogs with a baby really is an impossible task for me on my own and they don’t deserve to not get the lifestyle they need as we all know spaniels love to get out and explore!

For us the main priority is finding the right homes for Dougie and Skye is and ideally we would like to meet their future owners to ensure we’re comfortable for them to go there. We therefore were hoping you would be able to provide information on if you could assist with us looking for new homes for them.
