Unfortunately there has been an alarming rise of dogs with cropped ears - this practice of indefensible mutilation is illegal in the UK but it is not illegal to sell dogs with cropped ears or take them abroad for the procedure! The British Veterinary Association has launched its campaign to coincide with a petition to Parliament.

Please do consider taking a few minutes to sign this petition calling on Government to close the loopholes that are allowing dogs to continue to undergo ear cropping.

The availability of a passport is not a necessity at a vetting - however it would be very unusual, as it is illegal to sell a horse without a passport. I ask to see the passport and check the horse’s details, identification and scan to confirm the microchip at all vettings.
All horses born after 2009 should also have been microchipped. From October - all horses, ponies and donkeys will need to be microchiped - with owner details kept upto date.
