It's been 2 weeks since last inmate update and all is well here at Hattie's Hedgehog Rescue . Baldrick has gained 94grams and is now 637grams. Little Rudolph is growing up and has gained 192grams and is now 556grams. Spot has decided to wake up and has gained 57grams and is now 627grams and McGonagol is exactly the same weight at 596grams. Both Spot and McGonagol are not gaining as much weight as I would like but their poobies are clear.

I would like to take this moment to wish all of our followers a very Happy Christmas. Thank you for all your support throughout the year with donations of pennies, food, gifts from our Amazon wishlist, newspapers etc. Sarah aka Hattie πŸ¦”πŸ¦”πŸ¦”

Update time ...
1st up Ron - 850grams & should be ready for release after the weekend cold snap. Having arrived as a 110g bubba he is now a lovely chonk.
Next is Baldrick - 543grams who now has lungworm and a chest infection but continues to gain weight whilst being treated.
Spot and McGonagol continue to play "silly buggers!" Both are weight static at just under 600grams and are dithering about hibernation. Spot has been snoozing for the last 2 days, McGonagol snoozed on Sunday but was up again Monday night!
Newbie Rudolph from Thetford has put on 84grams in 5 days and is now 364grams. Rudolph has roundworm and today started treatment for a chest infection.
Last fundraiser of the year tomorrow at Ormiston Herman Academy with my knitted hoggies x

Hi Fans - Ron here! Aunty Melanie Bracey took this adorable piccie of me on holiday at hers. Since I'm not on a heatpad I decided to use the cable hole to amuse her with my super cute nose.

The housekeeper has returned from her holiday and picked me and Baldrick up yesterday. There was an awful lot of cooing this morning when she provided room service - I'm not sure what "chonked up" means but she mentioned moving to a big boi room in the cosy shed which sounds interesting.

This morning I weighed in at 730 grams, a gain of 275 grams in 17 days. My pal Baldrick weighed in at 460 grams a gain of 200 grams. Spot and McGonagol went to Aunty Tessa because the housekeeper muttered something about them playing "silly buggers" before she went on holiday. Spot weighed in at 577 grams a gain of 46 grams and McGonagol weighed in at 620 grams a gain of 80 grams.

I had a quick word with them when they got home and Spot told me he had decided to snooze for a whole week! McGonagol added that they had heard the housekeeper muttering about something called getting weight on for release and when they chatted together at Aunty Tessa's they decided that it is rather chilly, rains constantly and that they would rather enjoy continuing their winter break here until the weather improves. I have since heard the housekeeper muttering again about them being bed blockers!

Hi all, Tech Guru here πŸ˜€ So Mum made a slight boo-boo with the easy fundraising before- turns out there is (was?) another rescue with the same name on this platform.

So I have just created a cause for OUR hedgehog rescue, it is named "Hattie's Hedgehog Rescue Gorleston" and has our purple logo :D If anyone had already signed up, you can change your cause in the app/on the website. I can try to help anyone having troubles with this, just drop this page a message with your tech issue and I shall get round to it.

An early night for the housekeeper tonight. Tomorrow our current residents will transfer to other experienced carers whilst the housekeeper has a brief break. The Deputy maid will keep support feeding the wild boi's and gals

Hi, not so little Ron here - the housekeeper told me off this morning about the state of my bo***ir! She was even less impressed with the puddle of piddle I left up the corner muttering something about what was the point of newspaper!

As she headed off to the cosy shed I thought the rain and temperature might cool her down but she came back muttering about someone called Spot whose bo***ir was immaculate going into (in her words) "sodding hibernation".

Sunday updates for finders:
Ron is day 32 and weighs in at 455 grams a gain of 101 grams this week.
Spot is day 26 and weighs in at 531 grams a gain of 48 grams this week.
McGonagol is also day 26 and weighs 540 grams a gain of 51 grams this week.
Little Baldrick is day 6 and weighs 260 grams a gain of 37 grams.
All 4 will be moving at the weekend to other hedgehog carers / rescues as the housekeeper is taking a quick holiday. So next updates will be in approx 2 weeks time.

πŸ¦”HELPING HEDGEHOGS AS TEMPERATURES PLUMMET❄️

Temperatures are about to fall rapidly but there are still small hedgehogs out there.

Temperatures that are under 5 degrees for 5 nights ahead (as is forecast here in Gorleston) will often trigger hibernation. It's important if you are fostering hedgehogs to note this too - even on heat pads, a sudden drop in temperature can trigger hibernation.

Here are my top tips for helping hedgehogs as it gets colder:

πŸ’¦ Continue to leave out plenty of shallow bowls of water and keep them ice free. Hedgehogs will struggle to find water if there isn't much around in puddles.

🍁Don't rake up all the fallen leaves. Hedgehogs still need them to add to their Winter homes.

🏑 There's still time to site a hedgehog house in a sheltered area of the garden. Use dust extracted barley straw to fill it. Leave some of this around the garden under something to keep it dry. Hedgehogs can add it to their nests as needed.

πŸ¦” Continue to feed a high quality cat or kitten biscuit (the higher the meat content the better). NEVER feed mealworms, peanuts or sunflower hearts. I do this all winter as even in low temperatures not all hedgehogs will hibernate.

πŸŒ›Invest in a night camera to help monitor whether hedgehogs are visiting over the Winter. They often wake up from hibernation during milder spells - hence why I continue with leaving dry biscuits out.

πŸ‚ Always immediately contain any hedgehog seen out in the day and urgently seek advice from a rescue.

🐾 Hedgehogs over 600g have the best chance of surviving hibernation. They can and do survive at lower weights but keep an eye out now for any really tiny hedgehogs if the temperatures are dropping in your area.

πŸ¦” Seek advice from your local rescue if you are concerned about small hedgehogs (even if they are only seen at night). Policies vary and sadly many are still full with sick hedgehogs. Don't be tempted to over-winter a hedgehog without advice from a rescue. They can go downhill rapidly due to the stress of captivity.

Thank you for helping our πŸ¦”πŸ¦”πŸ¦”

And 2 more snuck in tonight!!!!!!!!
I haven't worked out where the Belinda hog is going if it needs to come out of the incubator tomorrow. Will need to use 1 of my "emergency" bedrooms and guess I will have a "roomie" in my bedroom. Hope he/she isn't a party animal πŸ™„
The Caister hoggie moved to the last indoor bo***ir after warming up in the incubator. Adult live capillaria plus eggs which us why he was out in the day at a tiny 344 grams x

Sunday updates for finders:
Ron has been here 25 days arrived weighing 110 grams, this morning is now 354 grams up 244 grams.
Spot has been here 19 days arrived weighing 331 grams, this morning is now 482 grams up 151 grams.
McGonagol brother to spot arrived weighing 308 grams, this morning is now 489 grams up 181 grams.
Mrs Norris got scooped by the Deputy Maid as she had a shocking chest. Arrived at 638 grams, this morning is 784 grams up 146 grams. Changed her antibiotics this week and she is sounding less raspy but I suspect her lungs are scarred from previous untreated lungworm, and she LOVES her grub - empty bowls of wet and dry each morning.

So long and farewell Houdini. You arrived 33 days ago a tiny 200grams with lungworm, capillaria and fluke and you were a...
