Copied & shared, same is true for our Siamese 😻
REHOMING THE KITTEN 🐾
Changes can be and usually are very stressful.
When we relocate, change a job or meet new people we usually feel anxious and nervous, don’t we? Now imagine 3 months old kitten taken away from his mother for a very first time. Everything and everyone he/she knew till now is gone. Imagine a toddler taken away from his family and placed with complete strangers… what do you think will happen? The baby will miss his home, will cry and call for mother, probably won’t eat and play, because of the stress and sometimes long journey to new home…the same will happen to the kittens.
They are still babies.
Everything takes time and patience.
There’s is a rule of 3:
3 days to decompress from the travel
3 weeks for them to learn your routine
3 months for them truly feel at home
Orientals are highly intelligent and sensitive cats, they feel emotions and respond to them. If you are stressed, they will pick up on them.
When rehoming a kitten, don’t expect them to love you straight away. Instead, prepare yourself as much as you can for their arrival. Talk to your breeder about their likes and dislikes, about their temper and personality, if possible take time off work to bond with your cat and to get to know each other a bit more.
Also ask about the litter they use, what food they eat as having the most familiar things as they used to will speed up the process.
Remember cats are very sensitive to the scent.
If you are taking a kitten to the home where you already have resident pets, it will be wise to separate new arrival for few days until they lose their scent of home. For your resident pet that new baby won’t be a cute fur ball you fell in love with but a stranger and threat caring a scent of his mother and the rest of his siblings! Be wise and don’t try to introduce them too soon as it will only make things worse. Again, everything takes time.
Of course, every kitten is different and every kitten has different personality. Some will be braver than others and introduction process might vary but it’s always better to be safe than sorry.
Don’t be afraid to ask your breeder questions! We know our cats best and we love to talk about them 😻 GOOD LUCK!
