Border Reivers Polo Club

Border Reivers Polo Club Border Reivers Polo Club is a small friendly club in the picturesque Scottish Borders. We host two action packed weekend tournaments a year.

Border Reivers, situated in the Scottish Borders was started by businessman Will Ramsay in 2003. He built the pitch – the size of eight football fields – on a picturesque site near Greenlaw, facing the Cheviot Hills. Will learnt to play in the army and wanted to play again when he came back to Scotland. It’s more of a club than an enterprise as more and more people want give it a go. Will says: “

Most people, when they think of polo, have heard of about rich patrons, throwing money at the sport. That does exist but there is another, lower level.”

At BRPC you will get a fun filled day, of good polo, good natter and a excellent club house for the after chukkas refreshments! Perhaps the Border Reivers doesn’t have quite the same mystical aura as those intrepid players of old in Kashmir, Gilgit and Manipur where the game originated but they do have a certain panache and unique style of their own. They are also very good at enjoying themselves while playing ‘Hockey on Horseback’, as polo was termed in the UK in 1871. Border Reivers extend a warm welcome to everyone who is interested in taking part – either on horseback or on a bicycle! The Club is only one hour’s drive from Edinburgh and Newcastle.

“At Pittlesheugh,” says Will Ramsay who runs the club. “We have a full size polo ground, pavilion, ponies and paddocks and a wooden horse. We can offer lessons for beginners and livery for those ponies. We have ponies for hire. We even offer bicycle polo for the non-rider.”

It’s a great family sport which you can play from 13 to 70ish; one team near here consists of three generations of one family, and not many team sports could boast that.
