Spud finished his 1-1 puppy training sessions at the beach 🤩

Isn't Sage gorgeous?! 😍💚

This lovely boy has joined me for a puppy package! We had our first session this week and worked on reteaching & strengthening recall as well as new ways to teach engagement!

We also chatted about ways to build on his independence so that he's able to settle without always following his mum or dad around the house 🥰

For our next session we'll be heading out to work on some lead skills and working on his excitement around dogs & people!

Which one do you advocate & why? 💭

In the last 24 hours alone, I've walked by 3 dogs, with their lead shortened to a measley 10cm, being harshly yanked every one or two steps. 🫠

The first two were for "correcting" their lead behaviour, and the third was to walk by the dog I was walking.

It really got me thinking, when did we stop trying to positively improve our dog's behaviour? Regularly hurting and cutting off your dog's circulation is 100% going to work in the moment - it would make me do a lot of things I don't want to do too!

But why are we okay with this? 💔

It's only my opinion, but we should be learning WITH our dogs, not forcing them to do whatever we expect.

💚 Not all dogs can walk loosely in very busy areas - but they might have a better shot away from dogs, ducks & people!

💚 Not all dogs can sit nicely in a cafe. Yes we can help them & train for this, but have you done that before you had a high expectation?

💚 Not all dogs want to be around other dogs. Isn't that okay? Not all people want to be around people!

The list goes on...

Training isn't just training. It's getting to know your dog, what their "strengths" & "weaknesses" are & providing new choices to build on those "weaknesses".

GOOSE 🪿

This handsome boy started his puppy package last week to spruce up his skills at home & for his recall!

For our first session we chatted about how we could support Goose when his mum is working from home and how to build up some very small boundaries, working towards being left short periods 🤞🏻

Independence or generally "coping" while you're unavailable for short periods of time is such an important skill for young dogs, and certainly makes our lives easier knowing they're okay 🫶🏻

Goose had worked on so many bits already with his mum and such is a smart boy, I can't wait to see him again for our next session!

One space left for our social tomorrow 💚

Are you joining us for our social walk this Sunday? 💚

Have you worked around other dogs on lead as much as you have off lead? This skill is often overlooked but arguably a more valuable skill for your dog!

These social walks provide a safe space in a casual setting amongst a qualified dog trainer to allow you to work on your own dog's goal, which could include:

🐾 To teach polite greetings with other dogs
🐾 To build confidence
🐾 To work on excitability or frustration
🐾 To socialise in a new way
🐾 To learn to ignore dogs

Everyone is always there to build their dogs in their own ways and being on lead enables this to happen safely with no pressure 🥰

** No puppy social this week but feel free to message to see if you can join the adolescent walk with your pup 💚

**Polite Notice**

If you have booked in for training packages, please remember they do expire after 3 months 💚 I've had several requests to book in final sessions several months after expiry, but unfortunately I do need a cut off to be able to accommodate other dogs once your packages have ended. Please don't forget to book them! I do chase up but I can't continuously do this for each session with every client. Don't lose out 🐶🐾
