The sparrow population is declining... 😢

Although once a common bird breed in the UK, numbers have been rapidly depleting in the last 30 years, with the population falling by an astonishing 99% in some urban areas.

Sparrows have a varied diet, so please remember to keep your feeders topped up with a good mix to help their population thrive.

Yesterday, we arranged for Mr Pig and Friends to provide a delicious hog roast for our workforce, as a thank you for their hard work over the course of the year. 🤤🍔

When the weather gets cold, it can be particularly difficult for rough sleepers and homeless people. Because of this, our Planning & Scheduling Manager, James, volunteered to take portions to Harbour Place Grimsby and provide a bit of comfort to those who need it.

We would like to thank Mr Pig and Friends for helping us facilitate this, and James for his kindness and consideration. ⭐

Spreading Christmas cheer 🎄🎅

We have spent the week arranging Christmas surprises for a multitude of people, including those being supported by St. Andrew's Hospice Grimsby, Rainforest Children's Ward (Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust), Women's Aid Grimsby and our hard working staff.

The delicious popcorn selection boxes from Popcorn Kitchen raised many smiles at what can often be a difficult time of year for people.

Wildlife superstars! 🐦‍⬛⭐

This year we have been supporting Brody-Lee Carter with donated items so he can help the local wildlife in North-East Lincolnshire. So far, he has put up 102 bird boxes, 22 hedgehog houses, 400kg of bird food, animal crossing signs, raised nearly £1,000 and volunteered for charities.

Last week, he attended the Lifestyle Awards with his friend, Lewis, where they won the Company Challenges Award! We are so proud of them both, and it is a privilege to support such amazing work in our local community.

Hello Winter... 👋

Now is the time when you need to double the bird feeding efforts to help them get through the harshest of weather in the UK. Make sure to break the ice on bird baths so they still have a water source.

In particularly bad weather, you may need to top feeders up twice a day to ensure the birds can get all the energy they need.

Winter has well and truly arrived at Harvest HQ...❄️

Despite the pretty landscape, the cold weather can be challenging for us all, including wildlife.

As temperatures drop and the ground freezes over, food becomes scarce for wild birds, making it hard for them to survive.

Here are a few tips to ensure their survival during the winter months!

✅ Use high-energy foods: To help keep them warm, provide high energy foods like sunflower seeds, suet, and peanuts which are packed with healthy oils and fats.

✅ Provide fresh water: It’s vital that birds remain hydrated. Check bird baths regularly and add a ping pong ball to ensure they don’t freeze over.

✅ Offer shelter: Shrubs and trees make great shelter for birds. Adding birdhouses in your garden also helps keep them safe from harsh winds.
