HAPPY XMAS TO ALL THE
😍🥰😗😂FRIENDS OF WEELSBY
A small crew appeared early and all the horses were fed watered and mucked out by Tracy Jenny Amy Amelia and Ian. I wandered about in my dressing gown trying to look busy. I have opened two super presents and am soon off to Amy`s for presents time and lunch cooked by the boys mostly Ian and James A they really believe they are Masterchefs .I hope you all have a lovely time and do not forget to call and see us if you are at a loose end. Happy New year to all xx🥰😍🥰

I would like to wish everyone a Happy Christmas and a very enjoyable New year. Weelsby is busy as usual and i have really felt for the girls on the yard what with wind rain and very cold. I myself have had a very poor few weeks and am just beginning to really look forward to Xmas This is the first year Ian is spending with his children for far too long and they are so looking forward to it and he has the added joy of Amelia his Grand-daughter who calls him Pop P0P and loves him to play with her. .We are having a family dinner and i am looking forward to that
I hope you all have a good time and also we remember old friends wherever you are good health and happiness. 🥰🥰🥰🥰###

its quiet at Weelsby this end of the week Amy Jenny And Tracy are at Aintree and Ian is away this week. I am looking after Roly and Rupert and enjoying their company it does seem lonely without Ralph he was my shadow all the time.
Niece Jenny is in charge of Amelia during the day and now she is talking so well she can be very good company but she is a very active young lady .
Tim Dixon called in yesterday with my birthday present and what a wonderful thoughtful present it turned out to be In 1949 Jean had Weelsby advertised in the Cleethorpes Gymkhana programme. Tim saw it in a very old catalogue or similar from Lord Yarborough and it was dated 1949. The photograph on it was me on Brownie jumping the wall in the 14 .2 jumping class and he found someone who could enlarge it and still keep the focus .It is lovely and brings back such memories for me . When visitors come into the yard and speak to me nearly every one asks me if i have ridden or had anything to do with horses i have a quiet chuckle to myself and say yes a little I have had a lifetime with horses and i have been with such talented ones, naughty ones, some like marmite you either love or dislike the latter very rare. i love being here and bless my Father for having the sense to buy the riding school in 1948
goodnight xx

What have we done wrong to deserve this weather .As my Mother used to say it/s not fit to turn the cat out but she used to also tell us that above the dark and stormy clouds the sun was shining so we had that to look forward to . Full of wisdom my Mum.
Mount St John had a good open day and Amy was very pleased the way the horses performed .Holly has had some off her events cancelled owing to weather and ground conditions and the girls here have been very busy catching up with autumn cleaning. My niece Jenny is here there and everywhere helping with different projects .The latest one is helping her twin get ready to move into his new home .
Amelia was two yesterday and the past two years have flown by. She is very good company but she is a very determined little girl and sometimes we clash as i do set boundaries but somehow we always get on the same side .I love her dearly and am so proud of her.
I am also very happy that Clare is doing well with her Riding School. She has started small as my sister Jean did and is gradually building up a good reputation .Well done onwards and upwards as the saying goes
Di Brown is quickly getting back to normal after her knee op and i know she has spoken to the BBC about her petition for a crossing for horses as they rang me and i gave them her number .It is so needed and i do hope they are successful xx

I am going to add to my post as for some reason it will not let me edit it .The person i have failed to mention has really been the most important one and it is Andy she called for me and brought me home and really looked after this old lady, Her car was lovely and her driving great Thank you Andy for getting me to see my friends and arranging the meal Bless you ###xx

22/09/2024

I have been out to lunch today with my Sunday ride ladies and Emyrs joined us .I have not seen him for quite a while so it was great doing a catchup. Di is really well with her new knee . Dale is still working ,she keeps saying she is retiring and then gets talked out of it .Anna ,Anita and Sue made up the table and it was lovely .The table was decorated up for my birthday and a bottle of wine and some beautiful flowers made up a super late birthday treat THANK YOU Emyrs and the girls.
I have seen Ian fleetingly this weekend ,He has been helping Amy do some tidying up at Weelsby i get tired watching him he never stops only maybe to give me some orders i generally keep out of his way but it is so lovely to have him home even if it is only for short times. Good Night xx

I have just been to Burghley for two days and i am worn out .Di Brown and her daughter Fiona came with niece Jenny and myself for the two days of dressage .Holly was riding in the four year old class and the five year old class and she gained a fifth .She also took part in Carl Hester's master class So it was interesting for me to watch .Ian was very busy helping his Dressage clients ready for the cross country and he was very pleased with most of his results .Tomorrow the show jumping will be most Interesting to see the final results . Today i have been so tired and trying to stay awake to watch the cross country took a lot of doing . know i am writing this late at night but i have been so out of it most of the day i am trying to tire myself out ready for bed, I just hope i can keep well enough to be able to go back next year as we found a super place to stay and the food was marvelous'
I am still lucky enough to be receiving cards for my birthday thank you everyone for being so kind i am now looking for a special album to put them in My next do is little Amelia's second birthday so that will be entertaining. When i bumped into her at Burghley i was on my scooter and she wanted me to give her a ride on it .This i did great fun for both of us until i realised she had watched and understood how to make it go and for my own safety i quickly removed the key. She is very quick to learn Good night xx

Well it has now been a week since the big day and i am still enjoying my chocolates and goodies i received but i am having plenty of help from the girls as they don't want me to put on any more weight .One beautiful present i received was a joint one from quite a few people and it is a recliner chair as my last one wasn.t working very well and when i get a bad chest i find sleeping on one better than sleeping in a bed. What a lovely present to receive and i cannot thank those who gave me it enough
What was really funny though was Ian and Holly's James getting the old one down the stairs and across the yard and putting it in the shelter overlooking the outdoor menage at c . Holly apparently videoed it and was helpless with laughter watching them .I will have to get her to show some of it'
Thank you again all who came to join me i do hope your heads were ok the next day. Mine certainly was as i am forbidden to drink while i am on the medication the doctor put me on but it didn't stop me enjoying myself Goodnight xx

MY BIRTHDAY IS STILL on the go as Pauline Bridges and her daughter called in today and it was a very good catchup with them both .I was able to get my cousin's telephone number from them as Pauline Betteridge as she was and cousin Prudence Tock have been best friends since childhood /They both lived in St Giles Ave and were famous for their adventures when children.
I have rung Prudence and what made me so happy was all the memories we could share when we were both children.At88 and 90 there are not many of us left now. Thank you for all your messages i will try and keep you all up to date with any interesting news Good night xx

i am slowly getting back to normal after a terrible Jan. and start of Feb. But everyone has been so kind and helpful i am so grateful to all My niece Jenny has been very good as she also looks after Amalia if she is down here with Amy. On the bright side the family all seem well and the yard is busy .
I have had the most super visits from my friends .Di Brown has been down even though Roger is not in the best of health and she has had visits to the hospital herself .Talking about the hospital the lovely young lady in the ambulance just happened to have been one of my riders and a couple of the nurses made themselves known to me but the one which i will never forget was the nurse in the cat scan theatre who came out gave me a lovely hug and a kiss and announced to all she had once worked at the stables for me .How rewarding to be greeted so well.
Our beautiful friend Emma Agnew came with a box of food from M and S Which was super My niece Joanne and i ate it all up the next evening i just added a baked potato each Thank you so much it was super i just wish you had been with us Emma.
Next a very big surprise as Lucy came to tell me there was a lady in the yard who would like to look round as she rode with us years ago. Early morning she caught me in my dressing gown but i heard her voice and called out is that Valerie Whitlem and it was .I have not seen her since she and her sister Penny went to Rosedene at Diss in Norfolk Their parents went as well Penny worked and rode for us until then and later Penny married a Mr Podmore and kept on with horses Sadly we lost Penny a few years ago but Valerie was so happy to be back She started riding with us when she was 4 and now she told me she is a Show Jumping judge what a reunion
Last but not least my nephew Christopher who lives in Berlin called on a flying visit yesterday He has a good friend whom has not good health news given him so he popped over to see us He is Allan's brother' s son a very kind man.
I must now look forward to the rest of the week and see if any more excitement comes my way ###

Peter and Pauline St5rawson as i was visiting the hairdressers i am gutted about that as i love my chats with Pauline as we have a standing joke she was the very first person i taught to ride .I am so proud of the rider she turned out to be. Happy Christmas everyone hope you all have a lovely time ###x

Our Story

We were one of the longest established riding schools in the Grimsby area. Established in 1948 by the Davies family in the grounds of Weelsby Old Hall. In 1986, Miss Jean Davies passed on and her nephew Ian Woodhead would continue the riding school.

In 2017, Ian’s eldest daughter, Amy started her own business at the school and at the end of August the riding school as it was ceased to exist.

It is now being run by Amy as a horse training centre and competition yard. The boxes are full and Amy has a staff of dedicated people who help.

Weelsby Equestrian Centre is still affiliated to the ABRS and BHS and also still has a teaching licence. The RDA have moved their horses and equipment to Cottagers Plot.
