Sion Rowlands and Claire Wade from APHA are coming to give us a lunch time talk on dealing with notifiables on farm and careers in APHA. This talk will cover the key notifiable diseases on farm, what to do if you suspect one, how to report it and how APHA investigates as well as a chance to chat about careers in government veterinary. These are both areas not covered in great detail in curriculum. There will also be a chance for questions after!
We are really lucky that Sion and Claire have found time in their busy schedule to come and speak to us, especially with the past years avian influenza outbreaks, about this important topic so we hope to see you there!

SFAVS are going on our first farm tour to Pallinghurst Farm in Rudgwick. Farmer, Charles Harrison, will be showing us around his block calving dairy herd including looking at his 60 point rotary parlour while they are milking and a tour around the housing for the cows. He has a milk contract with Arla so will be taking us through his treatment protocols on farm and how he works with the vet to improve productivity.
It is a great opportunity to learn about a different farming system as well as being able to ask Charles any of your farming questions!

We will be getting there via car share so places are limited and dependent on how many people are willing to drive (all petrol costs will be reimbursed!). We are aiming to take 6 cars max allowing 30 people to attend. Places are allocated on a first come first served basis but if the trip is oversubscribed priority will be given to VetSoc members.

The trip is FREE as IVC have kindly sponsored the tour. Please fill out the form to book your place for an afternoon full of farming and cake 🍰 🐮
