12th June 2024

Dear Small Animal Clients,

We are writing to let you know about some changes to our small animal out of hours service, which we have not undertaken lightly.

On Monday 17th June 2024, Vets Now, 110 Abergele Road, Colwyn Bay, LL29 7PS will be taking over as our out of hours provider. With the departure of one of our clinical directors, Aled Roberts and the loss of a further 4 vets from our team, (2 moving away and 2 taking time out for 12 months) and the ongoing recruitment struggles and vet shortages have meant that we are unfortunately no longer able to provide in-house support out of hours. We hope that this change won’t cause too much disruption for you and would like to reassure you that we will continue to provide emergency support during our opening hours.

Emergencies during our opening hours

If you and your pet have an emergency while we are open, please call us on 01407 720800 so that we can offer advice and arrange for you to visit us, if required. For your reference, our opening hours are:

Mona
Monday to Friday: 8.00am to 7pm Extended opening hours
Saturday: 8.30am to 1pm

Bangor
Monday to Friday: 8.30am to 6pm
Saturday: 8.30am to 1pm

Menai Bridge
Monday to Friday 8.30am to 5pm

Amlwch
Tuesday to Friday
8.30am to 1pm

Emergencies outside of our opening hours

If you have an emergency between 7pm and 8am, please call us on 01407 720800. Your call will be directed to the Vets Now team, who will advise you on how to proceed.

Rest assured, you can trust that your pet will be in the safest of hands with the Vets Now emergency team. Their fully equipped site has excellent inpatient and hospitalisation facilities, and their dedicated team members have been supporting local pets for over 17 years. As a guide, their initial emergency consult fee is £286.50. For further information, please visit their website.

Ongoing patient care

If your pet has been hospitalised at our practice during our opening hours, you may need to transfer them to Vets Now before we close for the evening. The next day, you will be able to return your pet to your usual Bodrwnsiwn branch to resume their care if this is deemed necessary by the vet. Our team will maintain communication with Vets Now throughout the process to ensure continuity of care.

Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions. We look forward to seeing you and your pet soon.

Farm and Equine Out of Hours remains in-house and will be covered by the Bod Team vets.

All the best,

The Bodrwnsiwn Veterinary Practice team

Adders Alert May 2023

The practice has already seen and treated two adder bites this week.

In the lovely warm weather we have been experiencing at the moment, it is very tempting to take your dogs out and about, especially to the beach.
We would like to warn owners of the possible danger of Adders. Anglesey and along the North Wales coast, has numerous places which they inhabit and the warm weather means they will come out to bask in the sun.
The most common areas are in sand dunes/beach areas; forest/wooded areas and the rocky heath areas like South Stack.

Dogs become very curious and are likely to go and investigate which may result in a bite to the face or the legs/paws as the dog tries to back away.
The adders are timid creatures and do not intentionally attack without provocation and most adder bite incidents are due to accidental encounters as the adders naturally defend themselves.
Common signs of a bite are sudden pain and distress and localised swelling which will progress, lethargy, subdued demeanor, 2 small puncture wounds may be visible.
Not all adder bites may contain venom but as a precautionary measure, should you suspect your pet has been bitten, please contact the vet as soon as possible. Survival rates are high if treated early but fatalities can occur.
Please share to raise awareness 🐍
