Staff pet alert ‼️

This is Yuki who belongs to our clinical director Sarah at Hadleigh.

Yuki came in for a dental procedure because he had some sore teeth and was avoiding having his head touched, which normally he loves his strokes.

After having some teeth extracted you can see Yuki was straight back to eating as if nothing had happened. Sarah says “Yuki loves his food at home and wasn’t surprised he was eating so soon”.

Sarah reported Yuki is doing well at home and feels more comfortable after his dental procedure. 🦷🐱❤️‍🩹

Meet Binx 🐈‍⬛

Binx was brought into the Hadleigh practice to see vet Sheelagh, following a trauma.

He had x-rays taken and an ultrasound, which revealed a ruptured diaphragm.

After Binx was stabilised at Hadleigh and Vets Now he was transferred to Orwell vets to have surgery to repair the ruptured diaphragm as they had specialist equipment to help his breathing.

We would like to say a massive thank you to everyone at Orwell Vets for taking Binx and looking after him so well.
Thankfully Orwell vets is part of our group and made this possible.

We can report Binx has made a full recovery. ❤️‍🩹

Feeding your bunnies some scrumptious healthy treats isn’t the only secret to winning their heart! Here’s what you can do to show your buns some love!

💗 Let them make the first move - Give your bunnies the freedom to hop over when they're ready
💗 Sharing snacks by hand - Offer a tasty treat and watch the magic happen
💗 Skip the pick ups - They prefer to be stroked at ground level
💗 Don't forget to take note of their body language and watch out for any signs that they need space!

Medal alert 🏅🥇🎖️

Miss Daisy a ST Bernard puppy came in last week for her first visit to the practice. 🩼

The nurses awarded her a medal for being a very good girl and they all enjoyed cuddling her before she gets too big and they can’t lift her. 🐶🐾❤️

We look forward to watching her grow into a large breed dog 🐶🐾.

A car can heat up within minutes, even on a cloudy day.

Don't leave your dog in your car, even if you are popping into the shop.

24/06/2024

We've had a four-day hot weather warning in the UK. If it's going to be hot where you live, please don't walk your dog in the heat. Walk them either early in the morning or late at night.

We'll be posting some top tips on how to keep your dog cool, so stay tuned.

Stay safe in the heat. ❤️

If you’re a rabbit owner, you might have heard the term ‘flystrike’ mentioned, but what is it?

Flystrike happens when flies lay their eggs on your rabbit & those eggs hatch into maggots. Maggots from blowflies: bluebottles and green bottles, are the most dangerous. They can eat into your rabbit’s flesh within 24 hours which can cause death in a very short time 😢

It’s important to remember that prevention is better than cure.

- Check your rabbit’s bottom daily, more often in summer.
- Keep their environment clean.
- Apply Rearguard or a similar product.
- If your rabbit has a wound, keep it clean and dry.

If you suspect your rabbit has Flystrike, then a trip to an emergency vet is required.

🐰Ivy the rescued French lop came in to see vet Holly this week for her nails to be clipped.

Ivy lives at Bossbody fitness centre in Hadleigh along with her friend Gary. 🏋️🏋️‍♂️🐇

Tracey, Ivy’s owner says she is always up to mischief.
Ivy and Gary are known to throw all the
cushions on the floor at the fitness studio and dig
up the rabbit tunnel.

The rabbits 🐇 hop around while some of the classes take place, making workouts 🏋️‍♀️more fun.

Ivy and Gary have landed on their feet with Tracey and got a first class home.

It is now compulsory for all owned cats in England to be microchipped, making it more likely that lost or stray pet cats are reunited with their owners and returned home safely.

This includes cats that usually only stay indoors.

All keepers must ensure their cat is microchipped before they reach 20 weeks of age and their contact details stored and kept up to date in an approved pet microchipping database.

Today is the day it becomes a legal requirement to microchip your cat or risk getting fined. 🐱💷

Having a microchip means if your cat unfortunately gets lost, stolen or injured and comes into our practice we can contact you immediately.

Remember the registered details need to be kept up to date with the databases so if you move house, change phone numbers, emails addresses or re home your cat you must let the database know.

The clock is ticking to get your cat microchip by the 10th June 🐈‍⬛🐈🐱

From 10 June 2024 cats over 20 weeks old must be and registered on a compliant database 📆

By microchipping their cats, owners can increase the likelihood that they will be reunited with their beloved pet if they go missing.

More information on how to get your cat microchipped can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/get-your-dog-cat-microchipped

On the last day of veterinary Nurse awareness month we have the letter z.

Z is for zoonosis - this is a disease that can be passed from animals to people.
Nurses play an essential role in preventing the spread of disease via Barrier nursing.
This is where patient care is administered to an infectious animal in such a way that the risk of the spread of infection is minimised. Barrier nursing includes such precautions as using an isolation room to separate from other animals and seperate equipment to prevent cross contamination. Keeping a high level of disinfection is essential and the constant use of suitable PPE.

(NB: this picture is during covid and not of a infectious case, you can see nurse Emily placing an I.V line in her own pup Millie).

Y- is for yearly check up!
Yearly a vet will see your pet for their booster vaccination and general health check.
Nurses will then provide a 6 month health check mid way through the year to reconnect and make sure your pet is still doing well health wise also helping to build a healthy relationship between them and their experience at the vets.

Doing a head to tail look over and noting any changes since the last check up.

This is not an appointment for an ill patient as a nurses cannot dispense any medication or diagnose, but it is a good opportunity for you to note any concerns as we can advise if vet intervention is needed.🐶🐰🐱🐾

X- is for xray
Xrays can be largely nurse led, for example, once a vet has induced anaesthesia or prescribed a sedation the nurses can take over from here!
Firstly setting up the machines based on image view and size of the patient.
Next monitoring the patient, this will be done by a 2nd nurse to make sure the patient has our full attention.
We can then further position the patient for the images and process the images on our above seen digital machine.
The vet will then be summoned back to interpt the xrays and diagnose the patient.

W- is for wildlife

We see companion animals such as cats, dogs and rabbits daily, but sometimes we get to help those less commonly seen.
Here are some of our wildlife patients we've recently helped, with assistance and guidance from local wild life charities such as we care manningtree.
