The unauthorised microchip database PetChip info has stooped to a new low, by sending out emails to the customers they have already scammed, asking for more money to keep the microchip registered!!

If you are unlucky enough to have paid and registered your dog or cat on the PetChip info database, when your pet is lost and then has a registration check to get them home, the microchip will read as unregistered! The pet can be rehomed after seven days, as we have seen already.

It would be helpful if Defra and the veterinary profession could help pet owners and alert them. It would be easy to show customers, at a pet’s first veterinary treatment, how to check and update their own registration. They could reach so many pet owners if the will was there to support the whole microchip system.

Pet insurance companies could warn and advise their customers too!

Trading Standards warned about the unauthorised microchip database in February 2021. The database often changes it’s name and continues to trade and scam UK pet people: https://www.tradingstandards.uk/news-policy-campaigns/news-room/2021/warning-about-unauthorised-pet-microchip-registry/

Microchipping cats has become compulsory.

The new rules mean cats must be implanted with a microchip before they reach the age of 20 weeks and their contact details stored and kept up to date in a pet microchipping database.

All owners must have their cat microchipped by 10 June 2024 and owners found not to have microchipped their cat will have 21 days to have one implanted, or may face a fine of up to £500.

COMPULSORY MICROCHIPPING OF CATS

Cats will need to be microchipped before the age of 20 weeks.
New rules will come into force next year.

The Government has announced that microchipping will be made compulsory for owned cats in England from 10 June 2024.

According to the new legislation being introduced to Parliament this week, owners will have to ensure that their cat is microchipped before the age of 20 weeks and that their contact details are kept up to date in the pet microchip database.

Owners of cats who are found not to have a microchip will be given 21 days to get one or face a fine of up to £500.

This is Archie!

He is very proud to have been implanted with our PeddyMark microchips. He knows they will keep him safe if he should get away from his owners.

Microchipping is so important but registering your details on a compliant database - like Animal Tracker - is even more important. The chip alone will not reunite you with your beloved pet!

Be more like Archie, chip, register, stay safe.

Did you know it is compulsory for dogs to be microchipped and keeper details registered on a government approved database?

Having the details registered supports in reunification of your dogs if the worst should happen. Dogs are normally scanned by vets or rescues, to find the owner. If the details are not up to date, the dogs cannot be reunited with their owners.

Register your pet today on our database Animal Tracker at www.animaltracker.com
