Earlier today I had such an emotional mini mantrailing session.
Some of you will be aware that my very dear friend Lorraine has a miniature schnauzer Otto who has recently contracted sards and is now totally blind.
Sudden acquired retinal degeneration syndrome (sards) affects the retina and is a disease that is idiopathic - having no real known cause. It comes on very suddenly and the total sight loss occurs very quickly.
Lorraine and Otto started mantrailing just under a year ago and were really enjoying the sport and making good progress.
When he became unwell and lost his sight mantrailing was put on hold for obvious reasons.
Today we decided to provide Otto with the opportunity to do some very short trails - called Hunter trails - as a way of helping him get back to doing something that he loved before he lost his sight.
Here is the video I took of Otto mantrailing. His enthusiasm for the game is so obvious. We were also supported by Caroline and Debbie who were the mispers. As he did so well on the first we ran a second a bit later for him.
All I can say is that there were a few teary eyes and sniffling at the end - and I’m not just referring to Lorraine and Otto.
Can’t wait to plan more sessions for him 😍🐾😍
Mantrailing is such an inclusive sport and able to ensure that a wide range of dogs needs are catered for 🐾🐾🐾
Lovely video of Peter playing with Rwbi.
What’s interesting is that he doesn’t chase her. He waits for her to come to him to resume play.
His play with her is very tempered and measured. He tunes in that she is a pup. 😍
Water dog! That’s Betty that comes to see what all the dpashjng is about 😍

How to keep Luna occupied 🤣
Easter fun and frolics
Luna watching on by me - not too keen on getting herself in the middle of this.
Can’t say I blame her 😏🐾🐶
