Just to say, everyone at Greenstead Farm including Greenstead Animal Feeds is open, the traffic signs are mis-leading. Church Road is closed but Greenstead Green is open as usual and can be accessed from Pennypots Corner, Croclands Corner and all other routes in save for the Blue Bridge.

There have been a number of cases of Atypical Myopathy reported in our area over recent weeks.

Atypical myopathy, which can be a life threatening condition, affects a horse’s muscles, including the muscle of the heart and those used to breath. Clinical signs can include depression, weakness and dark urine with horses frequently laying down and reluctant to stand. The disease may easily be mistaken for colic.

Although fortunately relatively rare, cases of Atypical Myopathy are seen sporadically in the autumn, and occasionally in the spring, often following periods of wet and windy weather. For many years the disease has been linked to pasture, with cases occurring in horses kept on sparse paddocks. This was then linked to a toxin found in the seeds and seedlings from Sycamore trees.

To reduce the risk of disease it is recommended to avoid grazing horses on fields containing Sycamore trees at high risk times if possible. If this is unavoidable then regular removal of the seeds should be undertaken and plenty of supplementary hay provided along with measures to avoid overgrazing the pasture. Reducing turn-out during the at-risk months (October to December) or during regional outbreaks should also be considered. Whilst not all horses appear to be equally susceptible to the disease, young horses and those that have moved paddocks recently appear to be at increased risk.

• A low-calorie fibre feed with added herbs, yeast and prebiotics to promote digestive health
• A soft, tasty blend of British grown, chopped, precision-dried grass and high quality oat straw for
maximum fibre content whilst being low in calories
• Alfalfa pellets are included to provide a bio-available source of calcium
• Naturally low in sugar 6.5% and starch 2%
• A unique blend of herbs including oregano, cinnamon, ginger, rosemary, thyme are added to
enhance palatability
• ADM Protexin In-Feed Formula provides prebiotics and yeast for gastric health. FOS prebiotcs have been
shown to stimulate lactic-acid utilizing bacteria in the horse’s stomach
• A very light dressing of British-grown rapeseed oil is added to promote coat shine
• Free from molasses, artificial flavours, preservatives and binders. Non-GM
• One large round scoop holds approximately 500g, 20kg bale, 6 months shelf life

FEEDING GUIDE:
Dengie Ulser Lite is a straight feed and so can be fed in the bucket at any level up to 500g per 100kg
bodyweight.
If using as a hay replacer - feed the same weight of Dengie Ulser Lite as the forage you are replacing.
Feeding 1.5kgs per 100kgs bodyweight will provide 1.5% of the horse’s bodyweight as forage per day on an as fed basis.
