Selecting the correct cleaning and disinfectant products is essential for effective disinfection, in combination with correct application and adherence to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Best practice is to use a DEFRA approved, BPR compliant disinfectant.
Spring cleaning routine:
Clean
Clear the stable of equipment, disposing of bedding, manure, feed, and debris.
Brush and scrape, clearing all surfaces of dirt and organic matter.
Thoroughly wash, and scrub and clean all surfaces with a good quality detergent.
Rinse
Rinse from the top down with clean water, removing all traces of detergent.
Remove excess water and allow the surfaces to dry, so as not to dilute the disinfectant.
Disinfect
Prepare and apply the disinfectant according to the manufacturer’s validated instructions & allow to dry, maximising contact time for an effective kill.
Feed and water buckets and equipment coming into intimate contact with your horse should be rinsed with clean potable water prior to re-use after disinfection.
Use Biocides Safely. Always read the label and product information.
