Policy change: for 2025

As a centre we pride ourselves as being highly effective producers of young riders and ponies. We also have 💯 % pass rate for career students started with us and juniors competing at National BS academy level for 6 years+ including Scottish teams and RC activities, Pony Club, and coaches coming from all background and disciplines.

Covid changed a lot of our working plans in 2020 with the changes in operating policy advised from Governing Bodies at the time. It has been noted that there is a negative effect on ponies wellbeing doing more riders, in shorter sessions.

Returning to more group focused training is best for horse welfare, and although at this time there are still many riders choosing half hr sessions as a method to progress, as a centre we strongly advise riding as often as possible in longer sessions to allow correct warm up and cool down time for the ponies and horses and also client progression.

Following extensive consultation with our fantastic team of coaches we are going to be moving riders up to 45 min sessions and towards group riding.

Group riding is much better socially for the children and ponies, and we are able to maximise the training effect through deliberate practice, and helps prepare our riders for “real life” or competition standard.

We will be opening up some group spaces at all levels, and please discuss with your coach or message about the suitability to match with others of a similar standard.

45 minute Semi privates will be offered in the first instance also and Gillian’s group have some availability at lower levels.

Going forward for riders wishing to canter and jump this won’t be possible in 1/2 hour private sessions as there simply isn’t enough time to get on and warm up correctly and is therefor detrimental to both pony and rider, this will only be possible in either group , private and semi private 45 mins and longer.

The changes will be phased in rather than an immediate change we do wish to impart our plans for horse welfare and client satisfaction and progression .

can’t believe this wee guy is still for sale 🥹 , he’s the kindest sweetest little guy

For someone who wants to hack around on open ground , ride on the beach , school a little if you have the skill , ride and lead from another pony , or if you want run along in front of him you won’t find safer or sweeter

12 year old, 14hh chunky cob type ridden by adults and tiny tots. Safe, hacking, following anywhere lol, good lesson pony, likes jumping once his blood is up, the stronger the rider the better he goes, one of the safest we’ve ever had.

Suit mother daughter type share, hacking, or alround home. Please note this is not a ready made jumping or PC pony as he came to us preferring following and he will leave preferring following. 🐎 🐴

Hes 100% bombproof in ALL situations (we’ve taken him on a lot of visits, beach trips) and suitable for a nervous rider, weight carrying, well put together, friendly and affectionate. Lives out but could stay in, very cheap to keep and may have working livery option. Handled by anyone. He just won’t take you round like a robot unless you can ride.

You will see by the messages to follow he’s a safe confidence giver with a legion of fans, who’ve had their first canter or first jump. He’ slows when had enough but never spooky or nappy.

🐴 The Riding School Horses' 2025 Wish List 🐴

Our horses have spoken (well, in spirit 😉), and here’s what’s on their wish list for the new year:

1️⃣ Rider-Horse Connections 🤝
Building strong partnerships between horse and human. Horses connecting with horses too!

2️⃣ Diverse Experiences 🌈
Variety is the spice of life! A mix of hacks, lessons, and fun rides keeps things interesting.

3️⃣ Enhanced Welfare 💕
Rest days, balanced working hours, regular vet care, and plenty of TLC for happy, healthy horses.

4️⃣ Good Quality FOOD 🥕🍎
Because nothing beats nutritious, delicious meals (and the occasional treat, of course)!

Let’s work together to make these wishes come true for our incredible equine partners in 2025! 🐎✨

Introducing Spider 🕷️

17.2 Cleveland Bay x sports horse

Been there got the t-shirt with well schooled centre experience, eventing and hunt masters background.

Rocking horse canter, lateral work, and works onto a soft contact giving a lovely feel. He’s here to stay at Bb after his initial full assessment from coaches.

A gentleman to ride - total asset to the team for the more advanced rider or career student.
